  1. yes, he was born in Bedord, England http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5030
  2. sorry, my mistake.
  3. Where/When was Lance Painter pitching for England?
  4. lol, that would be great. But yea I agree, hopefully Rugby and Soccer (or shall I say Football) arent the only sports played in Europe. English Baseball would be cool as hell. Me too, lol seriously. Im very interested to see how they do. They obviously wont advance though, being in the same pool as the US, Canada, and Australia.
  5. I was just watching the Red Sox/Yankees from April 24, 2004 on NESN and I am amped and ready for the season (despite the Yankees losing that game) ..but I cant wait either. A little off topic, but does anybody think that the WBC, following this year, should be played after the World Series? I feel that players should be in spring training with their teams, especially guys new to their team like Johnny Damon. And it makes it hard for guys like Hideki Matsui, who isnt playing due to all the travel and the effect it would have on him during the season (remember, if he played he would have to go to Japan in late February, then back to America whether Japan advances or gets eliminated). If it was in early November guys like Matsui would be able to play, guys like Damon would be able to play and still be in spring training with their new teams getting accustomed to that team's system, and it would have more of a meaningful, postseason feel being right after the World Series. And not to mention everybody would still be in good shape from the season. ..just my opinion, I really hope MLB and the IBF address this and change it.
  6. According to Boras A-Rod WILL play for the U.S. in the WBC. spartans, I know that if games were being played here in New York I would buy tickets. Maybe its just because its in Florida and Arizona...not exactly baseball country ..but who knows
  7. That was definately the corniest thing i've heard/read in weeks...but I couldnt help but laugh
  8. pretty racial there buddy, dont ya think?? ..lol. just playing with ya ...in other news today, after declaring to play for the Dominican in the summer, then being unsure at the beginning of the offseason, then deciding to play for the U.S., then deciding not to play at all, then deciding to play for the U.S., Alex Rodriguez has been named to the Dominican Republic's preliminary roster.
  9. I understaqnd what you guys are saying. But what I mean is that me personally, no matter what Jim Leyritz did after 1996, I could never boo him. Same for Sojo with 2000, Brosious in '98, etc. etc. etc. Only guy who im not too fond of that got a big hit in a world series game for us is Luis Polonia ..and thats only because he likes to have sex with 15 year old girls.
  10. would you really? wow. I wouldnt. IMO, Peralta just isnt good enough. He will be a very good player in his career. Probably a multiple time All Star, but I think Marte is going to be a lot better. I dont see Peralta being like a Jeter or Nomar, but more of a Guzman, Cabrera. NOTE: those comparrisons arent based on ability or anything, but based on stature as a player. Just thought I would inform you to avoid confusion. ShillingIsTheNatural, speaking of Arizona. How about Alex Cintron? How would Sox fans feel about that. He's not a great, All Star type player, but he is a good, young, scrappy, player who i've been high on for a couple of years. He likely wouldnt cost very much.
  11. no no no, that wasnt my intention. All I was saying is that I would imagine you guys would just cherish the 2004 championship and the guys who were a part of it. Didnt mean to make a thing out of it, just a statement.
  12. damn, you guys are ridiculous lol. Without this guy there is a chance you dont win that World Series. But here you are, rather than praising him for 2004, you're criticizing him for 2005. You guys went 86 years without one, try and cherish it, because it could be another 86 before the sox pick up number 7.
  13. If this is legit I think it is a good trade for both sides. Boston needs a young Center Fielder who could play there for years to come, and Seattle would be filling holes that need to be filled. I also wouldnt mind the Sox including Mota in the deal, because as I said in another thread, the additions to the Boston bullpen this offseason could potentially give Boston an AMAZING bullpen, and subtracting one of those additions would reduce the chances of that. How ironic would it be if the prospect sent over from Seattle was Michael Garciaparra ...also, regarding the Sheffield for Benson/Milledge deal they were reporting, according to a source that deal was never proposed, discussed, or anything like that. So somebody from that site made it up, which could possibly the same scenario regarding the Reed trade. but we will know soon enough I suppose as both are supposed to be announced tomorrow. but for the record, I have expressed many times on this site my stance on trading Sheffield, how I am against it because he is the heart of the power portion of our lineup...but if we were to get Milledge in the deal I would pull the trigger in a second. Then we could spin Benson (or one of our other many pitchers) off onto someone else for an outfielder to replace Sheffield for this year until Milledge is ready.
  14. My personal favorite among all that I listed is Piano Legs Hickman ...wasnt a great player lol, but what a name. Close second being Peek-A-Boo Veach. Then Boof Bonser, and Coco Crisp, and so on
  15. I agree with you. Very good trade for the Dodgers, for all of the reasons you listed. I have a feeling Lance Carter is going to come alive out there. Former all star, good stuff, but has struggled last few years in Tampa since being booted from the closer's role. Maybe playing on a team like the Dodgers will boost his performance.
  16. St. Petersburg Sting Rays haha, thats pretty retarded
  17. I agree that if they change their name, they should also change the city name part from Tampa Bay to St. Petersburg.
  18. lmao ...I like the idea, i'm always one to be in favor of relocation, expansion, name changes, etc. (Just to change things up). Plus, Devil Rays is getting somewhat old.
  19. haha I forgot to put Hiram Bocachica in my list...I love that one too.
  20. Gotcha ...usually early-mid December.
  21. Throughout the history of baseball there have been some great names among players. I'll list some of my favorite, and everyone else can do the same. This is just a thread for fun, no major significance or anything. The names in bold letters are my personal favorites Piano Legs Hickman Peek-A-Boo Veach Dizzy Dean Red Ruffing Rollie Fingers Rogers Hornsby Pee Wee Reese Coco Crisp Boof Bonser Mickey Mantle Nomar Garciaparra Carlton Fisk Cy Young Mel Stottlemyre King Kelly Paul Bako Ed Zmich Delino Deshields Dennis Eckersly Chief Zimmer Goose Gossage Fernando Valenzuela Todd Zeile Richie Zisk Guillermo Quiroz Grover Cleveland Alexander Tsuyoshi Shinjo Casey Fossum Oil Can Boyd Cy Neighbors Showboat Fisher Hilly Flitcraft Danny Tartabull Roger Clemens Trot Nixon Dizzy Nutter Eddie Quick Don Zimmer Dutch Zwilling Dan Quisenberry Happy Iott Willie Mays Hooks Iott Willie Upshaw Tadahito Iguchi Sun Daly Mike Piazza Bobby Bonds Tommy Lasorda Bruce Dal Canton Satchel Paige David Dellucci Wade Boggs Jason Isringhausen Joe DiMaggio Dom Dimaggio Vince DiMaggio Phenominal Smith Lenny Dykstra Yo-Yo Davalillo Grady Sizemore Dixie Davis Pea Ridge Day Pop-Boy Smith Corey Koskie Scott Sobkowiak Nap Lajoie Bob Caruthers Al Spalding Steve Sax Eddie Collins Whitey Ford Yogi Berra Ron Darling Scrappy Carroll One Arm Daily Darby O'Brien Oyster Burns Denny Riddleberger George Van Haltrin Icicle Reeder Hugh Nicol Clarence Cross Xavier Nady Sparrow McCaffrey Buttercup Dickerson Farmer Vaughn Cyclone Miller Mox McQuery Jumbo Schoeneck Three Finger Brown Mickey Doolan Mysterious Walker Guy Zinn Don Mattingly Vida Blue Doyle Alexander Cap Anson Nat Hicks ....theres a bunch there.
