  1. The Royals/Rockies trade was a very good one for both teams, IMO. Bautista throws pretty hard (he's actually Pedro's cousin) and despite his struggles, i've always liked Affeldt. Good for Shealy that he's out of Colorado and can be a full time player somewhere. Should fit pretty well in KC.
  2. I thought I understood how it worked, and never had any problem understanding any transactions until this year when I heard Jason Johnson was optioned to Pawtucket, and when the Yankee claimed Guiel; reading in the press release that he still had options. I'm lost.
  3. Well Omar just said that Oliver Perez is a Met and the Linebrink rumors are false. So looks like we just wasted 3 threads.
  4. Yeah, but the official transactions said they were optioned. Being placed on waivers and being optioned are two different things. There have been a few instances of this so far this season that I meant to bring up, but havent gotten around to it. I know both GUiel and Johnson are well out of options, so how does this happen? (There are other instances, I can go into it more with more examples when I get more time)
  5. Good point. Didnt even occur to me. Interesting how he's back in SD now where he started out.
  6. Absolutely, like I said, the urgency for relief help justifies it. The Mets are playing for now, not the future. I guess it was a little strong to say that I dont like the move. It would be more accurate to say I have mixed feelings.
  7. How was he optioned? Thanks for posting that as I meant to ask a few days ago what the deal was. As I recall it's three years on a 40 man roster until you lose options, but this year we have guys like GUiel and Jason Johnson getting optioned down. Can anybody explain to me how this is happening? That's a good diea, and I definately cant disagree with your opinion, but what about when we are down by a run in the bottom of the 8th inning with Giambi on second? Who do you put in to run? Not Bernie.
  8. Bad move in my opinion. I realize Perez hasn't really put it all together yet, but he has ace potential if he ever figures it out. I was really excited when they got him, and now he's gone. Bad move, IMO; but at the same time I realize the urgency for relief help with Sanchez going down.
  9. I feel ya, but it's a tough debate. Do you DFA Bubba or Guiel? I DFA Guielonly because Bubba is the fastest guy on our bench and with Phillips likely going down, we have nobody else who can run as a pinch runner off of the bench.
  10. No, it's Bubba who's out of options. Phillips made his debut in 2004, making this his third option year. Bubba also made his debut in 2004, but was on the 40 man roster in both LA and here with the YAnkees in 2003.
  11. Well as I said when discussing the possibility of this move a few days back in the Yankee Thread (where I also discussed the Abreu trade. Both of these make me look pretty good:D ), I really like Craig Wilson. Not only for his offensive ability, but also for his defensive versatility. I stressed all throughout the offseason the importance of a third player capable of catching; now we have one. He can play first, the outfield, and in an extreme emergency can play third. He is obviously a defensive downgrade over Andy Phillips, who Michael Kay predicts will be optioned down to Columbus. When it comes to this deal, it really was extremely unnecessary. The only thing that stops me from getting upset about it is that I, personally, like Wilson a lot and suggested we get him all offseason and into the regular season.
  12. I hope I get mine soon, too.
  13. oops
  14. Wow, Schil. A little upset over the Abreu trade? Understandably so.
  15. You keep bringing up Mussina's name. For me personally, I don't pu tMoose in the category as the other guys. WHen we picked Moose, it wasn't something that we did on a routine basis (such as in more recent years). When we picked Moose up after the 2000 season it was for him to be a compliment to the pitching staff. Team's make moves like that all the time coming off of success. Red Sox/Beckett, Angels/Vlad, Blue Jays/Rickey Henderson, etc. Now please realize that this post isn't intended to be nasty or instigative or anything of the nature, just something I wanted to point out. So please spare me the obnoxious response that I know will probably be coming. Brian Corey Well as it stands for next year, Matsui in left, Damon in center, Abreu in right. In 2008 you can probably pencil Melky's name in instead of Abreau, but for 2007 I still see Melky as a guy who gets 3-5 starts a week. While Giambi plays first probably half of the time, Matsui, Damon, or Abreu would DH, allowing Melky or Bernie (more often it would be Melky) to get some playing time. I definately see melky getting around 350 ABs next year. So while yes, he is losing his starting job, he wont lose too much playing time. No pitching? That's a pretty odd comment. Wang and Mussina have been spectacular this season, with the acception of Saturday, RJ has been on the top half of the ladder, same can be said for Wright (unless he's pitching in the 6th and 7th innings). Ponson had a great start, followed by a bad one, so it's tough to judge him. We don't know what we'll get out of Lidle, but we'll see soon enough. As for the bullpen, I wont even get into how much better the Yankees bullpen is than the Sox'. BTW, that 6th inning tonight sure did make me smile. And while we're on pitching, after you called me an idiot for suggestiong that it is argueable that the Yankees pitching is in better shape than the Red Sox, did you happen to read my response? If not, you should. Either ni the Yankee Thread or the Yankee GAME Thread. so you're not really in a position to criticize the Yankees pitching. How about you look past the numbers at least until Lidle pitches a game for us. Who knows, he might catch Small Syndrome or the Chacon Cold and turn it up here in a pennant race.
  16. Edit: Double Post
  17. Yeah, but it's extremely irrational to rather have a rival of yours profit than a team that really doesnt affect you at all. The Sox and Phils play every year in Natural Rivalry interlauge play, while we play them in only spring training and in interleauge rotation when the eastern divisions are matched up against each other. It's totally ridiculous. It's like if Bonds went to A's and a Giants fan said "I'd rather him go to the Padres than the A's." It makes no sense.
  18. Right. He has definately made it hard to count on him. He was very close to being activated on several occasions, but always tweaked something during his rehab.
  19. I'm sorry for your pain. Wait a second..why would you rather the Sox than the Yankees? The Phillies and Red Sox have a pretty healthy rivalry over the past few years.
  20. Well Kay just mentioned the trade on YES. They're not allowed to do that until it's official. So I presume this has gone official. Anyone know for sure?
  21. Thanks, appreciate it.
  22. Probably sooner than 4-6 weeks. I can see him being the odd-man out when Dotel comes off the DL, rather than Beam.
  23. Oh, absolutely. I wan't compaining, I was just pointing out the YAnkees intentions with Henry if he was to remain in the organization.
  24. NOT JESUS SANCHEZ!!!! ...I just realized something. How ironic would it be to have Abreu make his former manager switch numbers so he could wear 53.
