  1. Agreed, made quick work of a guy who has been on a tear
  2. when was the last time Varitek threw someone out???
  3. It would appear we are hitting our low point of the season. I just hope when August hits we can start getting hot.
  4. Yes, thank you......I know what Keith Foulke used to be. After a year and a half of sucking...you start to wonder if he will ever be the same. His velocity has not been the same since 2004 and his control has been off. Having not pitched a lot for a few months I can't imagine he will suddenly gain 2004 success......but I hope he does
  5. What does it say about the Red Sox scouting system when players like Jon Lester, Jonathan Papelbon, Manny Delcarmen, Craig Hansen, Hanley Ramirez, Anibal Sanchez and Matt Murton are all becoming successful players at the MLB level.
  6. I didn't say anywhere I'm counting on Matt Clement to do anything....but he's a starting pitcher and will be back so the Red Sox need to put him somewhere. I highly doubt the Red Sox would let Jon Lester pitch game 7 in a playoff series. If Schilling and Beckett are used up in that series you go with David Wells or Tim Wakefield. Both of those guys have the experience and ability to win. You really should be excited about Papelbon, Lester, and Beckett for the future. None of them have hit there prime careers yet (s*** two of them just showed up). They are going to all hit the peak of there careers at the same time.....how would that be for a 3 game series in future playoffs. All you can ask for is the team makes the playoffs every year. After that you hope the team gets hot.
  7. What would everyone say if Jon Lester pitched for us in the playoffs and won a couple games?? ....I'm not sure I believe Smoltz would do any better than Lester in the playoffs. We don't know quite enough about Lester and he could get real hot when September-October hits. Not to mention we will have Beckett, Schilling, Wells, and Wakefield. Matt Clement will come back sometime. Our rotation is set. Unless the Red Sox can get Dontrelle Willis I see no upside at this point to look at Smoltz, Schmidt, Zito....who we lose after the season. If we make the playoffs and they lose....thats a bad move.
  8. No I did not know they hold the rights to all three which makes a large difference.
  9. Now I've heard it all....Kevin Mench is an above average outfielder. I'll say Kevin Mench is in the top 50. He is around the same area as Trot Nixon. Keith Foulke is not Francisco Cordero so I will certainly give the upper hand to Cordero (maybe if Foulke is inserted to a closers role in the NL he will be revialized). We can't compare the potential between Pena and Nix.....every team will take Pena over Nix.
  10. Tell me about it. The Atlanta Braves won championships with Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, and John Smoltz.... I'm excited to see what Josh Beckett, Jonathan Papelbon, and Jon Lester can do for our future
  11. What are you talking about? I didn't say Willy Mo Pena was Carlos Lee....but if the Brewers were only looking for two average outfielders and a decent reliever.....the market isn't as rediculous as originally thought. Is Alfonso Soriano that much better than Carlos Lee?? Bobby Abreu is below both of those players so how much is he really worth?? Could the Red Sox have traded Willy Mo Pena, Keith Foulke, and Trot Nixon for Carlos Lee and a prospect??
  12. Considering Carlos Lee was able to be aquired for two average outfielders (Mench, Nix) and a struggling reliever (Cordero) I would think the Red Sox could get something decent for Willy Mo Pena and Keith Foulke combined in a package.
  13. I might have to give the leg up to the Brewers on this trade. I can understand where the Rangers are coming from but they need arms. The pitching staff is weak already and they just made it worse. Clearly they are going to attempt to out-slug everyone. Good trade for the Brewers though. I've always liked Nix and Mench will do fine in the NL. Even more so...Cordero should do much better in the NL.
  14. Buster Olney mentioned today in his blog that the Red Sox are working on a large, creative deal with more than two teams. Might have something to do with Jason Jennings. This time last year there was a big deal in the making with the Mets, Red Sox and Devil Rays.....large deals with more than one team have a tendency to fall apart.
  15. This is the first season Julio Lugo has had an OPS over .800 and the first time he has a chance to hit 20+ HR's. Clearly he is playing for a big contract but he is moving toward the wrong side of 30. This is the prime of his career so would you want to sign him until his mid-30s?? Thats crazy. Julio Lugo looks too much like Edgar Renteria. ....however, as I said above....I want Michael Young
  16. Thats who I want then. The Red Sox should find a way to trade for Michael Young in the near future or shell out the big money to sign him if he becomes a free agent.
  17. Far superior?? No, Miguel Tejada is far superior.....not Julio Lugo. I'll give the offense to Lugo (which by the way is still nothing to get excited about) but there is no way you can tell me he is better defensively. The difference between the two in those aspects is about the same. I'll take Gonzalez for less money and less years so the Red Sox can find a real replacement when better options arise. Is Michael Young a free agent after 2007??
  18. Lester or Hansen for Jon Lieber ....there must be a lot of drinking going on at that front office
  19. The Texas Rangers pitching staff f***ing sucks
  20. I think Keith Foulke sucks and he's a head case. I'll be holding my breath when he goes out there but I do that anyways with Seanez and Tavarez.
  21. Thats a possibility. Who do you think will cost more: Julio Lugo or Alex Gonzalez? ...my guess is Julio Lugo because teams are in love with offense. I think you can get Gonzalez for a three year deal where Julio Lugo will want four years. One thing that could make negotiations difficult with Alex Gonzalez...if he wins the Gold Glove this season.
  22. Well the Yanks wouldn't trade A-Rod for Manny so who cares.
  23. Doesn't it make sense that the Red Sox are simply increasing the price because the front runner for his services is the Toronto Blue Jays?? What makes people think Ken Rosenthal has the inside track on what is happening?? He knows as much as ESPN analysts...who don't seem to know much either making claims Soriano was deffinitly going to the White Sox
  24. I'd trade Manny Ramirez for A-Rod then turn around and trade A-Rod for Albert Pujols
