  1. Well the umpires are sure serving plenty of fodder for the conspiracy theorists to concoct a real doozy of a Black Sox scandal for the new century.
  2. Actually I meant the "drive-by" shooters, not the regulars. They all be gone.
  3. Sorry. I couldn't help but notice.
  4. Why shouldn't he squeeze for every nickel he can get? Does he owe somebody a favor or something? He was a high-caliber productive player before he came here and he'll be a high-caliber productive player when he leaves.
  5. Hey give the guy a break. If he wasn't functionally illiterate he wouldn't be a Yankees fan.
  6. Hey at least he's got a point. Francona has one too, but he wears a hat so nobody will see it.
  7. "If I were a conspiracy type guy, I would say Varitek got the nod cuz he's white due to Boston's racial rep" I am a conspiracy type guy, and I get the feeling that he's the captain because he's been around here longer than most of the other guys?
  8. That's a misnomer. It's peckerCHEEK, my friend. And I heartily agreee that a shorter leash needs to be kept on starting pitchers. The best pitchers who ever lived have had days where they got shelled for a dozen runs. Just don't give them the opportunity to let this happen. After two bad innings, send him out on a "let's see what happens" basis. If the hits keep coming, the situation is out of control and it's time to take him out. You're going to send another pitcher up at some point in the game anyway; better to do it when you're down by 4 runs than 8 runs. Screw the "saving them for another day" BS. They are here today, and a win or loss today still counts as a win or loss tomorrow. Terry "that's not my tongue in my cheek" Francona needs to go away if you ask me.
  9. Let's be honest. Is Schilling really the guy you want on the mound in a critical game, considering his current state? He's shown some promise lately, but please...... Maybe he'll be fine. Maybe not. But FAITH is not worth a wooden nickel.
  10. Hey give the guy a break. It's the only way he can get his drivel published. He's already spent half of his bicycle courier paycheck on postage to submit his articles to publishers who make more money on recycling crap like this than they make on the publications themselves. Don't quit your day job, twodeemo. And do yourself a favor; sign up for some remedial writing courses.
  11. "I was jumping up and down and shouting at the top of my lungs." It's just baseball for Chrissake. Save some of that energy for something productive.
  12. To top it off, one of the times that they panned over to the other game, it was right when the Cleveland announcers started doing their update of what was going on in Boston.
  13. They'll all be back on the Bowery lying in a pool of their own piss the day after the Yanks get eliminated in the playoffs.
  14. I'll agree that Francona needs to keep starting pitchers on a shorter leash, but he's had that problem since the beginning of time, and the Sox win more than they lose in spite of him. But this 'disgrace' business is silly. Me thinks that Miller Time probably starts before noon for folks on that kind of attitude trip.
  15. Well the Sox have their work cut out for them. They still have to win 3 games, and the Yanks would only have to win 2 of 3 to clinch. If the Sox win only 2 out of the 3 then they're still tied up. A game 4 tiebreaker showdown? Will they win all 3? I wouldn't bet much on that. Their backs are really up against the wall; IMO they are under just as much pressure now as when they went down 3-0 last year in the second round of the playoffs.
  16. "stillhave confidence in this team" A fan's faith and/or confidence has no bearing and no effect on whether a game can be won or not. A manager's bubbleheaded boobiness does. If a pitcher is off form and you leave him in long enough to let the opponent pad their already comfortable lead, then later in the same game you pull a pitcher who has the situation under control, you should be managing a hot dog stand, not a professional sports team.
  17. A tendency to give up runs by the dozen (I repeat, TENDENCY), is pretty likely to have an impact on the wins-to-losses ratio in the short term. The Red Sox can EXPECT to win 3 out of 4 games at this juncture. The Yankees can HOPE to win 3 out of 4.
  18. I get tired of the 'manager-speak' about pitching changes. "We need to get as many innings as possibble out of him". As many innings of WHAT as possible? After the fourth Blue Jays run, it was time to pull Arroyo. Just don't give any pitcher the opportunity to have a long bad day on a bad day. Give the ball to somebody else. Then when the next guy has everything very well under control, they do another switch to an as-yet unproven entity. Granted, DelCarmen and Myers both got the job done, but it should have been Dinardo's ball until such a time that he either blows it or runs out of gas. So much BS about 'saving pitchers for tomorrow', or the next day. The f#cking game is on the line right now. Do what it takes to win it. At this point they need to wait until tomorrow to worry about tomorrow. There are only a few tomorrows left.
  19. It's a win-win situation for the Red Sox fans. If Cleveland, we get to wave goodbye to the Yankees and see that precious look on Arod's face again. If New York, we have the pleasure of seeing them get their asses run out of town again, and still get to see that precious look on Arod's face again. "and its assuming the Sox win it???" The Yankees have been offering a wholesale discount on runs to opposing teams.
  20. "People like this need to be locked in a Porta-Potty with a swarm of angry bees and shoved down a mountainside." But that wouldn't accomplish anything now, would it? Put them to use. Give 'em the old leg shackles and let them spend the rest of their days breaking rocks for the highway. Them and the child abusers. Get them out of circulation and put them to productive use.
  21. Wakefield should pitch tonight, too. And tomorrow.
  22. Though there are still enough bigots and racists around to spoil things for just about everybody, I realyl think the world is getting a lot better in this regard. I grew up in a neighborhood where the racial mix of the population was about 50% white, 30% black, and 20% hispanic, in the late 60's/early 70's. At that place and time, even with the fairly even racial mix in the neighborhood, mulatto kids were viewed as 'exotic' (for lack of a better word), and had to deal with all sorts of taunts and unpleasantries from all sides. My kids are half black/half white (you can tell by looking at them) and are at school age now, in a neighborhood with about the same mix as above, but nobody has ever so much as batted an eye at them about their racial background. It takes a long time for things to change, and the problem operates at so many social, economic, and pyschological levels, but it is very obvious to me that positive changes are taking place quite a bit faster than some are willing to ackknowledge.
  23. Baltimore will give the Yankees a run for their money. Red Sox had a few big innings which resulted in two wins againts the O's. To say that they "demolished" them is ridiculous. Chances are that there won't be any more than a two-game margin either way come the 30th.
  24. Here is my dream prediction for the outcome of AL East race: Sept. 30th - Red Sox in first place by a two-game margin. Beat Yankees and eliminate them from AL East race. But the Yanks still have a shot at wild card. Oct 1st - Red Sox eliminate Yankees from wild card race. Oct 2nd - Though their season is over for all intensive purposes, the Yanks still have to come back to Fenway one more time. They open up a big 9-run lead and hold it to the 8th innning. Red Sox tie the game with 9 runs against Mariano Rivera in the 9th, including two homers by David Ortiz. After 5 more innnings of pointless torture and anguish, Yankees win in the 14th inning with a solo homer by Alex Rodriguez. Season over. Go home.
  25. The poster should say "If you use steroids, you're going to need Viagra by the time you're 40."
