  1. I cannot stand when RHPs who don't have pin point control throw that run back two seam fastball over the inside corner. Someone like C.M. Wang should not be throwing that pitch on 0-2, especially to a hitter like Chris Davis, who should not be a difficult strike out. Just because Greg Maddux had success throwing a pitch does not mean every other pitcher is going to have that same success.
  2. It was a strike. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfx/numlocation.php?xml=http://gd2.mlb.com/components/game/mlb/year_2009/month_06/day_03/gid_2009_06_03_texmlb_nyamlb_1//pbp/pitchers/444857.xml&batterX=090603_202823&innings=yyyyyyyyy&s_type=1&sp_type=1&h_size=700&v_size=500
  3. In 2005 the White Sox really scuffled in September and I'm not sure too many people were picking them. Same with the 2006 Tigers. For what it's worth, I do agree with the last part. I just don't think you can kill the Yankees for not having won in the last eight years.
  4. What makes Pettitte even worse is that it's now become so easy to steal against him.
  5. The umpire has a very small strike zone. Posada couldn't have done anything about it. EDIT: Well that was nice.
  6. Jees, Pettitte has nothing tonight, but it makes it even more difficult when he loses two strikes in a single AB again.
  7. About to get out of hand... EDIT: Big DP.
  8. It speaks volumes to how much Pettitte is struggling that he fell behind Andrus. This is a guy who showed bunt on 3-1, the best hitters count, trying to draw a walk.
  9. Oh absolutely. But many pitchers have also benefitted from spending some extra time in the minor leagues. I'm of the opinion that Hughes would benefit from that. As for Tomko, he deserves a shot. He was great in spring training, great in AAA, and he has done well since he got called up.
  10. Horrible AB from Damon out of the three hole. Swung at two pitches out of the strike zone, the first one being when he was ahead 2-1 in the count.
  11. He was saying that the starters generally go deep in the game. The numbers he used were facts. As for the long man, throw Brett Tomko out there. With an eye towards the future, Hughes would benefit more from being in triple AAA, starting on schedule every fifth day.
  12. Of all the guys in the rotation, I hate when Pettitte starts. He did lose two strikes on Kinsler, leading off, so that might very well have made a different. With that being said, he was terrible in the inning. Considering how well Feldman has pitched as of late, and the fact that they don't have Teixeira in the lineup, winning this game could prove to be quite difficult.
  13. Pettitte does not have one start where it is not a struggle.
  14. So Teixeira paid for that slide last night. He was scratched from the lineup because of a bruise on his right ankle. Because of this, I kind of hope they don't play tonight.
  15. Right, but it doesn't make them the best team. They weren't even close to the best team. Hence my argument of the best team not always winning, making the playoffs a crapshoot. You actually think the Diamondbacks, a team with a pythagorean W-L of 79-83 (the allowed more runs that year than they scored!), was better than a team that outperformed their record?
  16. Look, the Cardinals were not even a top 10 team in baseball in 2006. The Mets were so much better. It wasn't even close. And no matter what you think of the 2007 Cubs, do you actually think they were worse than the Diamondbacks?
  17. If they were hot going into the postseason I could understand the argument, but them suddenly getting hot once the postseason rolls around is simply a coincidence. As for the Cubs, do you really think they were worse than the Diamondbacks in 2007, a team that had a Pythagorean W-L of 79-83?
  18. The Angels had a good September, but they also had lost 8 of their last 13 games heading into the postseason. The Yankees were also hot going into some of those postseasons. Doesn't necessarily mean you're going to win the World Series. The Cardinals had a terrible September going into the 2006 postseason. They won the World Series. The Yankees had a terrible September going into the 2000 postseason. They won the World Series.
  19. Why did the Rockies make the World Series in 2007? Why did the Angels win the World Series in 2002?
  20. There is no proven theory as to how to win in the postseason. No team is perfect. The Yankees had some strengths and some weaknesses in those years, but their strengths clearly outweighed their weaknesses.
  21. Here's what it comes down to, none of the people posting here, besides Crespo, believes that the playoffs are a crapshoot. If you believe that the playoffs can be planned for, then we are too separated to further debate this point.
  22. Go back and read some articles about how sought after Pavano was when he was a free agent following the 2004 season. Judging by the comment you just made, I think you'd be surprised. For Brown I meant in terms of players. As for this all being bad moves, again, if you want to be fair, you need to go back to when they were acquired. The 20/20 hindsight proves nothing. And, for what's it's worth, Randy Johnson was very productive in 2005, especially down the stretch when the Yankees were making their playoff run.
