  1. Continental Crackhead Arena seats 19,040. Last night's attendance: 14,495. Are you serious, it's the PLAYOFFS!!! On the other hand, I can't blame the fans - the Devils are the hockey equivalent of a staring contest. New Jersey has some of the highest ticket prices in the league. They rape their few fans that they have. Pretty stupid if you ask me. Attendance at game #82 of reg. season > Attendance at game 1 of EC Quarter finals. idk, i just found it shocking.
  2. anyone think that ruff can win the jack adams again...i do. i think hes the best in the game... The guy continues to show his stuff. All season long the Sabres played fun & gun hockey in all three zones, which the team was great at, and which the fans loved. And what does he do in the playoffs? He changes things up, understands that it's the playoffs and plays playoff hockey. It's not that the Sabres players played better D last night, it's the system they switched to. They still played a 2-1-2 forecheck which is basically a forward high in the slot with D pinching on the boards just like they have all year. But they basically rolled out a trap in the neutral zone, something they rarely did. He's basically saying: We have enough fire power to clog things up for the other team, hopefully create turnovers and still get plenty of chances. I didn't get a chance to catch the Flyers game, but the Sabres pulled this out against Pittsburgh when they shut them down. I really think the Sabres could have won the whole thing playing run and gun, but I'm more conviced than ever that this is their year if they keep playing this style. Give Ruff his due for being one hell of a coach.
  3. sabres take game 1 and dipietro is cleared to practice. ..dont matter, sabres in 5 isles only had 1 shot in the first period and the sabres had 3 ppg.
  4. has anyone the sabres opening night playoff lines... 1. Jochen hecht - Daniel Briere - Jason Pominville 2. Ales Kotalik - Chris Drury - Dainius Zubrus 3. Thomas Vanek - Derek Roy - Maxim Afinogenov 4. Adam Mair - Tim Connolly - Drew Stafford sooooo deep and skilled to boot. if ur Ted Nolan, who do you put your best defensive line out against? The Roy line scored 87 goals this season. The Briere line, 85. And the Drury line, 77. And it's safe to say that if Tim Connolly and Drew Stafford had played full seasons together, the nominal fourth line would have had in the neighborhood of 60 goals.
  5. well lets get these playoffs underway already, im so pumped. ill be in buffalo for games 1 and 2. from the isles message board: Dont get me wrong here Im not saying they shouldnt believe in their team. but that crap doesnt make any sense to me.... Thats one thing I like about the end of a playoff series...shuting up the opposing team's fans. looking at the roster besides blake and smyth not much scares me sabres will take it in 5. 6 games at the most of dipietro comes back. http://www.sabresfans.com/avatars/chea.gif It's pretty stunning how cocky Islander fans have become since they eked into the playoffs. I recall looking at some of their message boards when the Sabres played them about 10 days ago, and they wanted no part of Buffalo in the playoffs. Now they're better all of a sudden? Where's the logic in that? They're simply two days away from watching the beginning of the end for their Islanders Im kind of glad there is a nice break between the end of the season and the playoffs. It has given Islanders fans a chance to try and convince themselves they belong on the same ice as Buffalo. bottom line, you had a good run, got into the playoffs, and should rebuild nicely under Nolan. Is it your year to pull off an upset and win the cup? NO CHANCE.
  6. Red Sox Will Win The East!!
  7. I'll go w/ Pitchers who are still pitching in todays game Pitching Motion/body type/work ethic: Clemens- Its not the smoothest ever but lets face it Clemens is pitching in his mid 40's and still at a high level. Fastball: Oswalt- Hes prob my fav non red sox pitcher and when he is spotting this thing its nearly unhittable Change up: J.Santana- IMO the best pitch in baseball when you get a pitcher who knows how to use it and Santanas is nasty Slider: R.Johnson- Even though its not what it used to be he'll still gear it up every now and then. When hes got it working forget it Curve Ball: B.Zito-Love the movement on this pitch Cutter: Mo- Do you want to know when a pitch is on another level? When hitters know its coming and they still cant hit it Sinker: B.Webb- Wang is a close 2nd but I think Webb's is just a little better knuckleball: wakefield..nuff said GYROBALL (haha): Matsuzaka? Pick off move: Pettitte Defense: Maddox NL Hitting: Willis
  8. 29 hrs? are you kidding me...he is still young, continue to look for 50+ hrs with 140 rbi's.
  9. I know man...defending Jack Adams Award winner for coach of the year...what a bummer
  10. Half our team is up from the AHL and we're still killing NHL teams...what does that say about the rest of the league? We'll be the healthiest team going into the playoffs with Afinogenov, Connolly, Spacek, and Drury all coming back. A stat from the news this morning about us having more goals in the last 4 games than all but 2 other 4-game stretches this year is ridiculous. Kaleta, MacArthur, Stafford... These three skaters have me really excited about the next couple of years....and they are all under 25. They've been playing smart, lights-out hockey the last three games? And two of those games were arguably the most important games Buffalo has played all season. Kaleta's hitting everything that moves - and with authority! - but he's still been in position on breaks. Stafford's moving the puck like he's been playing for years, and I was so proud of the way he took on Neil instantly after the goon show. And MacArthur? Wow. He jets to the puck, looks so quick with the stick check, and just has a real scorer's sense of where the net is. Great stuff from these young guys. It's amazing to think of how homegrown the talent is on this Buffalo squad - which, as I write this, is the best team in the league. This is our year. There will be no choke job, no Cinderella story. If it wasn't bad for hockey I'd suggest the other teams just forfeit right now
  11. we'll see about that they were 1 period away from the stanley cup finals with 2 regular defensemen in the lineup...how did detroit do?
  12. Doesn't matter...Sabres are getting the Presidents' Trophy By the way, Drury ain't lookin so pretty anymore: http://www.wgrz.com/imagepool/images/0731131839_wgrzdruryeye.jpg Terminator, Anyone? http://img400.imageshack.us/img400/8110/drury3eq9.png Imagine having to stare into that face with a disconcerting grin when you're taking the faceoff.
  13. pujols
  14. anyone see the ottawa/sabres fight from last night? I love Lindy's comments "Don't go after our f***ing captain" Rematch saturday in ottawa. There is a league wide sentiment that the Sabres can be intimidated or at least hit into submission. One thing I know is there is no respect of the Sabres physical side and thats more than evident when you see these type of actions.I mean the players lost for the Sabres to this Ottawa team are Tim Connolly and Chris Drury and we have to be able to stop teams from taking these players away from us. Yesterday was a great step in the right direction as far as seeing this team stand up to this type of seek and destroy mentality. Its a lack of respect from Ottawa that leads to a Chris Neal purposely drilling Drury when Drury was vulnerable. The Sens and the rest of the league need to be shown it isn't going to continue, the time to act is now...
  15. count me in
  16. He has more muscle than I'd have expected. A bit chunky, but not Schilling, Clemens or Wells either.
  17. much better showing by buffalo tonight.
  18. nope, they declared bankruptcy and we're bought by a billionaire from rochester. had to believe 2 yrs ago they filed for bankruptcy and now they are the best team in the east, and one of the best in all the league.
  19. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2718865 I remember when he was considered untouchable...
  20. Seems like an odd trade b/c the WS were supposed to be high on BM Plus BM isnt a ground ball pitcher and thats what Texas should be looking for. I dont like BM in that park I think Danks is a little overated as a prospect but some scouts seem to really like him and wasnt freddy garcia traded away to open up a spot for BM?
  21. how come drew hasn't been officially announced yet?
  22. ESPN is reporting that Wells and the Jays are very close to signing the extension, and it could happen as early as Saturday. Sportsnet.ca is saying the Jays have reached a final agreement, but it won't be announced until Monday. All it needs is some minor unfinished details to be tended to and owner Ted Rogers' OK. Under the deal,Wells gets a no-trade clause and can opt out of the contract after the 2011 season(4th year of the extension). Massive props to the Jays for doing what needed to be done.

  24. Sox brass in California to meet with Dice-K By Gordon Edes, Globe Staff With agent Scott Boras declaring last night that if "the parties' positions remain the same, Daisuke will return to Japan,'' the Red Sox top brass were in southern California to meet face-to-face with Daisuke Matsuzaka in a last-ditch attempt to induce him to sign. Boras said that GM Theo Epstein, accompanied by principal owner John W. Henry and CEO Larry Lucchino, had come to conduct negotiating sessions last night and today in an attempt to beat Thursday's midnight deadline for a deal.
