  1. good research there.
  2. hopefully contreras can pitch like he did in NY last week, he'll need to with the way the white sox offense is going.
  3. hopefully ortiz can get back on track today, 1-12 this series, you can only keep him in check for so long.
  4. Papelbon has been impressive in his first two Major League outings, striking out 13 batters in 10 1/3 innings. In his last start, a no-decision against the Tigers, Papelbon held Detroit scoreless over four innings before allowing two runs in the fifth. Aside from throwing heat in the mid-90s, Papelbon also has a terrific splitter. Byrd was scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday as a precaution because he suffered back spasms following his Aug. 11 start. However, a visit from the team chiropractor got him back on track. Byrd is 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA in two starts this month.
  5. they finally won and ended the streak at 19 games!!!! http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/wrap.jsp?ymd=20050820&content_id=1177958&vkey=wrapup2005&fext=.jsp&team=away

  7. Game Info Date: Sunday, August 21st, 2005 First Pitch: 4:05pm ET TV: NESN Starting Pitchers: http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/mlb/images/team_logos/50x50/ana.gif Paul Byrd (9-7, 3.88) http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/mlb/images/team_logos/50x50/bos.gif Jonathan Papelbon (0-0, 3.48) Papelbon finishes four-game set Red Sox (70-51) at Angels (71-52), 4:05 p.m. ET A day after the Red Sox were positively perplexed by a rookie pitcher, they will throw one at the Angels, hoping for the same result. Ervin Santana baffled Boston en route to a 4-2 victory on Saturday afternoon. The Red Sox will trot out the promising young arm of Jonathan Papelbon in Sunday's series finale. This is Papelbon's third Major League start, and he's been impressive in the first two. He is coming off a no-decision against the Tigers, a start in which he surrendered six hits and two runs over five innings while striking out six. The Red Sox, who hold a three-game lead over the Yankees in the American League East, need a win in this one to salvage a split in the four-game series. Pitching matchup BOS: RHP Jonathan Papelbon • 0-0, 3.48 ERA in 2005 • First career appearance vs. LAA LAA: RHP Paul Byrd • 9-7, 3.88 ERA in 2005 • First appearance vs. BOS in 2005 Player to watch Red Sox DH David Ortiz can be held down for only so long. After going 1-for-12 in the first three games of this series, Ortiz could be primed to break out in this one. Quotable "These guys are great pitchers. They're hitting their spots. They're a championship-caliber team. When you face teams like that, those teams know how to pitch, play defense, play small ball, long ball. They're a very good team, and you're seeing it right now." -- Johnny Damon, on the Angels Quick hits After scoring five runs or more in nine consecutive games, the Red Sox have scored under five runs in the first three games of this series. ... Damon has hit safely in 20 of his last 21 games. ... While Edgar Renteria continues to be in a prolonged home run drought (196 at-bats), he has 13 RBIs in his last 19 games. ... Bill Mueller is hitting .428 (9-for-21) on this road trip. On deck • Tuesday: at Kansas City, 8:10 p.m. ET • Wednesday: at Kansas City, 8:10 p.m. ET • Thursday: at Kansas City, 8:10 p.m. ET had to start it early today, because I probably wont be back until after the first pitch.
  8. I think he will start today then thats it because schilling will be returning to the rotation.
  9. Despite the Red Sox move of pitcher Curt Schilling back into the rotation, reliever Keith Foulke isn't quite ready to return to the closer role. After manager Terry Francona all but ruled Foulke for next weekend's series against the Tigers, the more reasonable scenario presented itself. He will likely be sent be sent out for a rehab assignment next weekend, make a couple of appearances, possibly as many as three, then be activated right around the beginning of next week, perhaps during the Tampa Bay series. Mike Timlin will take over the closer role in the meantime and if he pitches even remotely effectively, don't expect Foulke will be handed his former role back. Fantasy owners who can still grab Timlin should do so and we'll be sure to update Foulke's status if and when he goes out on a rehab assignment. per yahoo
