  1. First of all, Tavraes, even if he is not our leadoff man, would make for a great defensive centerfielder. The fact is, we need one, so dont be picky like that, he can still bat at the 1 spot with loretta in the number 2 spot(where he was most of last year) with youkilis moving down to the bottom of the order; he seems to have been in the 7 or 8 spot each start he had. Tavares would be a better option for the top of the order anyways for his higher average than Youkilis in way more at bats and his 34 sb to youk's 0. As for Payton: NO WAY why on earth would that work out, were you living under a rock last season? His relationship with the Red Sox was not pretty, and he was a bench/platoon guy, why would we want someone like that as a starter; definetly not a great option. Same goes for roberts who barely played for us as well. Giles would never work out considering he just signed a three year deal with the padres this offseason. Why would they trade him right after signing him for three years w/ club option? Not happening. And please, dont be belligerent about petty things like an "unintelligent" post. Grow up.
  2. Tavares is not bad; hes only 24 and he doesnt have great power, but if we use him as a leadoff we will not really need that. He had 34 steals last year and his OBP was .325 along with a .291 average. If he was so bad, why did he finish 2nd in ROY voting?
  3. Oh boy, Carolina has the #3 defense and chicago the # 2. Carolina has an insanely better offense than chicago and they will pull it off. The statement is also invalid in that Carolina HAS beat chicago this year, in thier most recent meeting. They have beat chicago so, it is impossible for them to never beat them. A figure of speech i know, but still.
  4. id have to say sfoc is the most generous, maybe because i have been on the recieving end of his generosity

  6. The list doesnt end there. The red sox have missed out on some legit options for centerfield on the FA market such as Juan Encarnacion and MAtt Lawton, both of whom had good obp, something we are looking for as we are missing a leadoff. It seems almost as if the red sox are not exploring any options. They seem to be a bit too satisfied with the notion that they might get Reed from the Mariners and as a result sit there with their heads up their asses as everyone else grabs FAs that would have been reasonable options for the Red Sox. A longshot option may also be Willy Taveras who is now a member of an overcrowded Houston outfield with the signing of fellow centerfielder Preston Wilson(also not a bad option that could have been looked into). I dont see it being all too realistic, howver as he had a great rookie season last year and the Astros will probably want to hold on to him; just a thought.
  7. so can we be WICKED obnoxious and post like 100 times on this to improve our chances?
  8. yea they BETTER win im 2-0
  9. So this makes me 2 for 2:thumbsup:

  11. Whats this about fingernails....maybe i shouldnt ask
  12. Nice picks
  13. Yea he was in AAA Milwaukee in '02 but i heard somewhere that he played in mexico the year after.
  14. Yea pedroia RULES. i met him at a seadogs game last year. i was the only one who knew who he was and i was calling for him and he ended up signging an autograph for me but none of the others waiting for one, a day later, he was upgraded to aaa....
  15. hahah yea its a sick avatar i must say
  16. Yes i agree, i could care less that manny is out in left field figuratively, all that matters is that he is staying. Crazy or not, indecisive or not, annoying or not, he is still the anchor of our offense and it feels great to know that he will be back in Fenway. At least for the '06 season...
  17. I guess this means i have to get over to modells as soon as possible and grab some manny shirts at 50% off before they realize he wants to stay.
  18. wow check this out: http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/story?id=396286
  19. Um....im going to go out on a limb and disagree with you: the Devil Rays are NOT one or two veteran pitchers away from being competitive. I would also feel much better with DiNardo in the pen i dont feel too secure about him being in our starting rotation.
  20. Wild Card Weekend NFL Football Spread - NFL Playoff Game Dates 1/7 - 1/8, 2006 Date & Time............... Favorite................ Spread........... Underdog 1/7 4:30 ET.............. At Tampa Bay............. -2.5................. Washington 1/7 8:00 ET.............. At New England............ -8...................Jacksonville 1/8 1:00 ET.............. At NY Giants.................-2.5.................Carolina 1/8 4:30 ET.............. Pittsburgh.................... -3...................At Cincinnati
  21. Yea go longhorns....even tho matthew mcgonahey has to be one of the creepiest/most annoying fans i have ever seen, he seemed to be high as a kite when the navy was singing at the start of the game
  22. Im very doubtful about Foulke...i think he will start out the season, but after a while, Timlin will probably step in. I dont think they will bring up Hansen so soon yet, i think they should give him more time to develop. Im pretty sure he only has two good pitches and hes working on more which would be another reason for him not to be rushed.
  23. i think we should find a way to deal clement and keep arroyo. i would like to see a rotation as follows: 1. beckett 2. schilling 3. wakefield 4. arroyo 5. papelbon
  24. Yea i think that this is a risk we should take; if you take a look at his '04 numbers, they are not bad: 29 hr and 82 rbi. I think we should go for it, not necessarily as a starter, but i would feel good about him as our 4th OF.
  25. so im assuming we would have to put money in for these said prizes? anyways, i would prefer format 2 should it happen
