  1. I have prepared myself to lose Lowe, Cabrera and Pedro and find possible replacements in Free Agency (Pavano, Radke, Vizquel/Larkin). I don't think I am prepared to lose Tek. Mirabelli though is a great backup and has a good bat, but he's a free agent too. I was 12 years old when Fisk didn't come back. Boy did that suck. However Rich Gedman did quite well in his place....
  2. I am sure everyone will agree to paying shipping and media charges at least. I would like to offer my services of duping all 3 dvds for people. I have 3 DVD burners and can burn up to 8x. I woke up this morning after going to be at 2am and the news was still the same. Red Sox won...
  3. 4 months ago, I registered bosoxfan.org as a domain. I wanted to have an email address with bosox in it. I haven't done anything with it because I was going to wait until they won to setup my email address account. Did this really happen? Are we all dreaming? Stuck in some time alternate universe where your dreams come true? OK it did.....
  4. 1]I sat quiet staring at the TV after Foulke underhanded the ball to Doug M 2]I went to shop.mlb.com and order a 2004 World Series Tshirt (same one they wore on tv). I will probably see this shirt in like a month (backordered) 3]Ordered all of the ALDS, ALCS and World Series wins in .wmv format from mlb.com so I can have it for posterity. I am downloading all wins right now.. 4]Called my brother in Belmont, MA (he was screaming). Called my brother in law in Easton, MA (he was screaming). Called my friend in Hartford, CT (he was screaming) Called my local Red Sox friend in Cleveland, OH (he was screaming). All of these calls took like 4 seconds. We couldn't say much but "ohmigosh" Ok it did happen..
  5. 4 best moments in my life 1]getting married in 1997 2]first child being born 1999 3]second child being born 2003 4]Red Sox WINNING the 2004 World Series.. I feel like I am dreaming....
  6. The Bruins broke a 30 year drought in 1970 by beating St. Louis http://www.bostonbruins.com/history/playoffresults.asp Everything else is correct. Damm ironic, every Boston team got through St. Louis...
  7. Never experienced something like this before. I will know when it happens. I am not planning ahead....
  8. OK I should have shown this pic I found on NY post. Before and after....
  9. This is the picture STILL fresh in my mind from last year's disappointment. Who would have thought that that served as motivation for this year. I am still in shock at last night. It hasn't hit me yet...
  10. I was so psyched the Red Sox picked up Dave Roberts for a bargain before trade deadline. Did you see him score from 2nd base tonight and his steal? The Dodgers were stupid to get rid of him. I live in Cleveland. I watched him come up with the Guardians. When he played for LA, he was tutored by Maury Wills in regards to being a leadoff guy and scoring runs.
  11. This is shocking. It sounds like something Jose Lima would do to himself. It keeps getting worse for the Yankees... I am psyched about the recent Red Sox streak.... I will wait til the Red Sox finish the regular season to celebrate the AL East Division or Wild Card berth. Right now the way the Twins and A's are playing, they both seem like tough possible opponents for the Sox, unlike last year's Twins. Enjoy the ride....
  12. Correct me if I am wrong here. Wasn't Francona brought in to seal the deal for Schilling? If Francona goes, you think Schilling would like it? If Schilling is unhappy, I can see him in the offseason demanding a trade. The kind of manager the Sox need is a Hargrove (disciplinarian). But this kind of manager only works on young players. I live in Cleveland and they have been rebuilding for 2 years. They are ahead of the time line as they have been playing 500 ball sooner than expected, but this only worked once they got rid of some veterans and had young, eager prospects (AAA caliber) lay it all on the line for a tough manager. Only way they hire a Hargrove type of manager is when the Sox management decides it's time to rebuild until then they will hire "a player's manager who is their best buddy". Catch 22 if you ask me..
  13. Should Tek worry about his role? I wonder if Tek was benched because he was slumping and because of his altercation with Schilling.
  14. Last year, the Sox were doing the bullpen by committee. They had Todd Walker and Grady Little. This year, they have a great bullpen with Foulke. Also, Curt Schilling. Great spirit and player in Pokey Reese and a new manager Francona. Is it me or does last year's team have more "heart" and statistically more come from behind victories? The flip side of this year is that the bullpen has been able to close out a lot of wins thus not having the Sox fall behind and have to come back from a win. I don't think I am making sense. Gosh, last night's loss sucked.
  15. Awful.... I don't know what else to say.
  16. Right now, Theo should pull the plug on getting a defensive 1st basemen. It's like Walker last year. Getting home runs and hitting but then making costly errors... Ugh, 8th inning, Ortiz can't even scoop a ball. Isn't that a 1st baseman's job?
  17. The way I see it about Francona. He was brought in to bring Schilling in. I don't think the Sox could have signed Schilling without Francona being on board. Ok, one bad thing about Jimy Williams, he was such a player's coach that he had no discipline skills(Everett). Grady did bring the team together and had them excel. Yup, game 7 was a bad decision in hindsight. I wish I had the URL on espn.com where Gammons picks apart stats where Pedro stayed in after 7 innings, opponents batting avg and how many games the Sox won. They were actually good stats. The problem I had with Game 7 was Grady's inability to see what was working. in the ALCS series. The Embree to Timlin to Williamson trio was working for all the ALCS games they won. (Sorry about game 7 rant) But then that begs the question, who is the right manager for the Red Sox? (besides Torre)
  18. Good points about baserunning.. To play small ball, they have to have coaches who know how teach small ball and the skillset in players to play smallball... Right now, I don't think they have either. Damon is fast and so is Reese. Kapler is fast but he is not a smart runner. Everyone else in the lineup is SLOW...
  19. yeszir, Good points about OBP zombies, however... I don't think the Red Sox are in the MoneyBall mode yet. There are still some leftovers from the Duquette era that Theo had nothing to do with signing or trading for. Theo has only had the reins for only 2 seasons. The biggest blunder of Duquette's administration was signing Manny to that ridiculous contract. That contract has allowed very little wiggle room for Theo to be completely creative and apply the Moneyball theories. Still I am amazed at Theo's free agent signings, Ortiz, Walker, Reese, Belhorn and obviously Schilling. I would say the Red Sox now are a half Moneyball/half Duquette team. In 2 more years the team will be completely in the mold of Epstein, then we can blame the Moneyball theory.
  20. I read this on the Rumour Mill for Sportsline.com : http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/MLB_SC-RUMOR New York Yankees Updated:06/30/2004 Newsday reported the Yankees had yet to receive any indication from the Diamondbacks that Randy Johnson is available on the trade market. But the presence of an Arizona scout at a Triple-A Columbus game indicated the D-Backs were at least taking stock of the Yankees' farm system. The New York Post said scouts from the D-Backs, Pirates, A's, Guardians, Reds, Red Sox, Phillies and Blue Jays were in attendance for the Triple-A debuts of catcher Dioner Navarro and infielder Robinson Cano. Earlier, several New York area reports said the Yankess still were looking for a starting pitcher even though Freddy Garcia was dealt by the Mariners to the White Sox. Seattle's Jamie Moyer, Pittsburgh's Kris Benson, Atlanta's Russ Ortiz and perhaps Los Angeles' Odalis Perez are the possibilities most often mentioned. The Daily News said the Yankees were holding out hope that Arizona's Randy Johnson becomes available. Asked about reports New York was interested in Colorado outfielder Preston Wilson or Arizona infielder Roberto Alomar, GM Brian Cashman told the Daily News: "I have no interest in anything other than pitching." If the Yanks pulls RJ from Dbacks without the Sox getting him that will be the next biggest coup from when they got ARod.
  21. I am still trying to find the value in Millar especially since his option kicked in for 2005 after having a certain number of ABs. I hate his Defense.... His bat is pretty good, but his Defense is a liability.
  22. I don't live in the New England area so I wasn't able to watch "Still We Believe- The Boston Red Sox Movie". It comes out on DVD July 6th. Boston Red Sox - Cowboy Up! The Wild Ride of 2003 (2003) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...?v=glance&s=dvd Boston Red Sox: 100 Years of Baseball History (2001) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...?v=glance&s=dvd are already out. Does anyone feel like these are worth owning? Or does it just add salt to the Red Sox fans' wounds?
  23. I grew up in Maine. That's where I discovered my love for the Red Sox in 1978 (awful year to start rooting for them, eh?). I am now 37 years old married and have 2 kids. I live in the Cleveland OH area and I can only see games when the Red Sox come to town. This forum will allow me to discuss my passion for the Red Sox.
  24. trot4mvp, The way I understood "avoid outs" theory was you have more chances of staying in the game when you have more outs to work with. Runs are indeed important but you can't score when you have made 3 outs. For me the theme of the book, was finding value in players without breaking your budget. And interestingly enough, after letting Tejado go to free agency, Damon and earlier Giambi, the A's signed Chavez to a long term deal this year. To the Red Sox fans, how about how the A's reinvented Hatteberg as a 1st baseman? He's a solid baseball player and was undervalued as a catcher to the Red Sox organization. If anything, the points raised in Moneyball is to re-examine how your team spends its $$$. I keep thinking if Manny only made $8 million a year what the Sox could do with the other $10 million......
  25. Hargrove believe it or not is back with the Guardians this year. He's a special Sr. Advisor to Shapiro. He even threw out the first pitch opening game for 2004 season at Jacobs Field. Hargrove was known as a HUGE disciplinarian. This works with young players coming up but doesn't work with veterans. I never found anything wrong with Jimmy Williams...
