  1. I was in Montreal on Saturday night to see their victory over the depending champion Florida Marlins. I just have to say that it's a shame Orlando Cabrera plays in Montreal. He's a damn good shortstop, and a decent player all around. Like many former Expos, he doesn't get the credit he deserves. Is Cabrera as good as Tejada/Nomar? No. But after watching him play I believe he could make a very good contribution to a contending team. Will the Cubs go get him? Only time will tell....but if Nomar really does walk after the year, and the Sox can't get Renteria, Cabrera would be a decent 3rd choice.
  2. I think Carlos is being silly by not waiving his no-trade (regardless of his reasons). What is he accomplishing by staying in Toronto? He's beating up on his body playing on Turf. He's playing for a team going nowhere but the AL East cellar. He's in a contract year, and getting only negative publicity. LA should pick him up (and he should waive his no-trade and go there). They desperately need a bat, he desperately needs to get out of Toronto (whether he thinks so or not)
  3. I read a rumor today (from Boston.com) that the Yankees would take on Matt Mantei and Robby Alomar in a deal with Randy to help Arizona clear up their payroll, then release those players. Name one team OTHER than the Yankees who can take on a useless player who makes $7 mil just so they can make a deal? Money IS power. I'm not saying Randy brings the World Series guarantee with him to the Bronx, but I AM saying don't count the Yankees out of a potential deal just yet. The Yankees could pay Jose Contreras to play in Arizona in order to get Johnson. Jose then becomes basically a no-risk player. Consider the possibilities....
  4. Lopez has flat-out dominated us this year. If Wake's on, it should be a tight game. If Wake struggles, we could be in trouble. Let's hope the offense stays hot and steamrolls Lopez.
  5. Last night was a good win. Petey gave up 5 runs...but the club backed him with some runs! Good to see.
  6. Like I said, I am going to BELIEVE nothing I read until it actually happens. I just thought I'd pass the articles along. I still think you guys are underestimating the Yankees.
  7. I'd say the jury's still out on Mendoza. He's thrown 8.2 innings so far! He's throwing well, but I'm not gunna jump on his bandwagon just yet.
  8. The Sox don't have a good excuse for the way they have played since May 1.....But you're right. If they don't dominate guys like Baltimore, Toronto, and Detroit....you have to wonder about this team! Minnesota should be tough (they can win the Central without Benson), but the Red Sox should be able to beat them. BAL (1 series) MIN (1 series) Tampa (2 series) Det (2 series) CHIW(2 series) Tor(2 series) I count 30 games here. Of the 30, the Sox should win at least 20. Will they? Only time will tell.
  9. Yessir. I hate the Yankees (and therefore Giambi), but it's sad to see someone have to go through something like this. I hope he gets better....
  10. NEW RUMORS: More of the same. I don't expect Beltran to be traded at all. Are the Sox interested? Mientkiewicz is a gold-glove first baseman. However, IF the Pirates are willing to send Benson in a trade for Mientkiewicz, I don't expect Boston to match that offer. Also, why would the Twins want to help out a fellow contender? I actually am starting to like the idea of getting Walker. If he is, indeed, a "gold glove caliber right fielder" as the above states.... He can help fill the void there (Nixon's out, Millar's been playing FAR too many games in the outfield). If Nixon comes back healthy, Walker can also play first base. He's a veteran guy with a good bat and apparently pretty good defense. He's got a big contract, but if the Sox clear money by trading Kim for him, he's affordable.
  11. Crespo, If Mussina/Brown don't come back soon, expect Georgie to replace them with someone good, and the same for Giambi. I don't expect the Yankees to have a rotation of Vazquez,Contreras,Sturtze,Leiter,(insert random rookie here) come September.... The Yankees are a very good team, a team to be feared. That being said, they are beatable right now.... Plus, if the Yankees get Johnson (which, according to some reports I read, seems more possible than it did a week ago), he instantly becomes the ace of this staff... Either way, the Yankees will be a better club than the one we just beat 2/3 down the stretch run...
  12. We'll have to wait our assesment of how good a scout Zenny is until Shoppach,Alvarez, etc reach the majors. That being said, Zenny...thanks for answering my question. You know a lot more than I do about the minor league system
  13. Let's take this one game at a time. If we get ahead of ourselves, that's when we get in trouble. Pedro's got something to prove after getting lit up at home VS the Orioles in his last start. Bedard pitched very well against us last time out. The Red Sox need to play with the same intensity as the last 2 days vs the Yankees. If they play like that, they should win.
  14. Tonight obviously was a big win. The sox take the series, it's huge. I have to admit, I was listening to the game during Matsui's grand slam....it made me nervous! We gotta strengthen that bullpen.
  15. I was in Montreal (at the Expos game) while the Red Sox went ahead against the Yankees in 9th. The fans cheered as the score was put up. Everyone hates the Yankees.
  16. Saturday's game certainly seemed like a spark... Let's hope the intensity carries over to the Baltimore series. Let's face it, the Sox need to play with the Yankees/Red Sox intensity from here on out if they expect to make the playoffs...
  17. Yes, it's sweet. But we got lucky. Millar's getting hot, and the Yankees are a shell of the team that we'll be contending with down the stretch: Mike Mussina is out. Kevin Brown is out. Jason Giambi is out. Millar isn't as bad as he's been since the beginning of the year, but he isn't as good as he was in the Yankee series (nobody is). This series shows (to me) that both of these clubs are severely flawed. The difference down the stretch is going to be getting players back (Yankees, the 3 abovementioned) or getting players from outside of the organization (Randy Johnson or others). These teams are very close in talent, not-so-close in the standings. Keep an eye on the evil empire....
  18. Zenny, Could you please enlighten us on the prospect status of Hattig? Is he a big loss? Adams should be a decent pickup. He also can start in a pinch. Thanks,
  19. I voted Braves, because they continue to amaze me by overachieving in the regular season despite losing huge parts of their club. Also, they've stayed in contention without their big guns (Chipper Jones, Marcus Giles, JD Drew) in the lineup all the time. I think Philly is the most talented of the bunch, but Atlanta seems to play very well down the stretch. I believe they can (and will) take the NL East.
  20. I agree. we are complete losers for following a team of complete losers. Still, I'd rather be a complete loser than a Yankee fan.
  21. I would kill to have ANYONE else. f***, they can't do much worse than they are now.
  22. The Cubs might be interested....the White Sox might be interested...I think Theo was operating under the fantasy that this team could actually COMPETE. I love Nomar, but he's only gunna rot here in third place in the AL East before long. Theo, do him a favor and trade him to a real team that has a chance to win.
  23. i hate football, almost as much as I hate the Yankees
  24. f*** you foulke. f*** you schilling f*** you francona Theo best be making DRASTIC changes to this f***ing team soon cuz it just doesn't have it.
