  1. Welcome to the site. Hey, look at the bright side: You won't have to deal with any Yankee fans if they lose! Hey, I always prepare myself for the worst... that way It's not as big a dissapointment, and if they can pull it off... it's a bonus!
  2. I don't know if I'm the ONLY one on this entire site who didn't get to SEE the A-Rod play... but I think this picture (which I stole from MLB.com) tells the tale. http://www.18eaststreet.com/a-rod.JPG What a punk.
  3. Considering that this could very well be the last game of the year for our beloved Red Sox, I think now IS the time to speculate.
  4. Everything I've wanted to say about the Sox and last night's game is in other posts, so I'll just say one thing that's on ALL Sox fans' minds: There's a first time for everything! Let's make history!
  5. Bellhorn started getting some quality swings last night.... maybe he's coming out of his slump! That 3-run homer certainly didn't hurt.... Well, we know who's starting at second for Boston tonight... so we can only hope he comes through!
  6. The Yankees and their fans shamed themselves last night. Throwing things on the field is just plain STUPID. Trying to illegally interfere with a play is STUPID. I don't mind smart Yankee fans. It's the stupid, loud mouthed ones who don't know anything about baseball but just say things like "1918," "When was the last time Boston won the World Series," or this is my favorite... this is a REAL quote from a guy I know. Not a kid, a 30+ year old man: "Derek Jeter is the best shortstop in baseball." This short-sighted, ignorant comment is what really gets me... how can someone so stupid call themselves a "fan?" Any Yankee fan who shows knowledge, dignity, and class... is welcome on this site as far as I'm concerned. The rest, however, if you could just leave that'd be great. This post is NOT directed at any poster in particular. You people know where you stand on this.
  7. Wow, he really IS a whine-ass. I don't think it needs pointing out, but guess what A-Rod? Both times there were meetings, the umpires made the RIGHT call. He wasn't complaining when the overturned Manny's homer in September. The POINT of the meetings is to make the RIGHT call. I understand he wants to win, but does any REAL Yankee or Baseball fan want them to win like THAT?
  8. This game is going to be incredible tonight. Both teams battling hard. Think about the implications of this game? Players who may not be in Boston uniforms after tonight: Derek Lowe Pedro Martinez Orlando Cabrera Jason Varitek Imagine the Yankee payroll in 2005 if they DON'T win tonight. They might sign Adrian Beltre to play second base! Not to mention Beltran, Pavano, and others.... Brian Cashman may lose his job if the Yankees don't win. There's a lot at stake here, not to mention the rivalry, the intense series it's been already..... I can't wait.
  9. WOW. I have yet to SEE this incident (anyone who wasn't aware that I listen to all the games on the radio doesn't read my posts) but I've heard eye-witness accounts (from co-workers who have TV) that it was blatent, and that he was a true whine-ass (that even Derek Jeter would be proud of) after the call was reversed. I'm glad that after 96 (anyone remember Tony Tarasco?), and 99 (Jose Offerman/Knobby), the umpires finally figured out how to make the RIGHT calls. I had a ton of respect for A-Rod until he started whining at Arroyo back at Fenway Park (what started the fight)... didn't Arroyo hit him with a curveball? Now I have no respect for the man. Him, Sheffield, and Brown... I hated the Yankees of the late 90s who ALWAYS won, but I respected them. Guys like Scott Brosius, Tino Martinez, Paul O'neil.... Even Bernie Williams. They played the game hard, they played it right. These Yankees are starting to look more like the late 90s Red Sox...
  10. I've been really hard on Terry Francona throughout the season, but I have to admit I don't really disagree with his moves so far. Schilling said he was ready in game 1. He got Shelled.... the Sox outscored the Yankees 7-4 after Schilling left. Pedro simply got outpitched in game 2 by Lieber. One COULD argue that he shouldn't have been out there for Olerud... Game 3 was one of those games where NOTHING worked out. Can hardly be blamed on Francona. Game 4... It's tough to give D-Lowe the start in an elimination game, but what other options did they have? Taking him out was controversial.... but Timlin made the pitches and the fielders didn't make the plays. Game 5...Pedro got lit up in his final inning, and he'd been struggling all night... so again, he MIGHT have been left in just a little to long... but Jeter hit a good pitch, is very good in the clutch... and we'd have been in trouble regardless of who pitched. It was a little weird to have Varitek catching Wakefield...and it made Tek look bad... This is not the decision I'd have made, but I can see why Francona didn't make the move. Game 6: How can you complain when the Sox WIN? Schilling pitched the perfect amount of innings. Just enough to give the 'pen a good chance to close it out, but not too long. Arroyo dominates righties, and with Cairo,Jeter,Arod,Sheffield up... who'd you rather have in there? Foulke for the 9th was a no-brainer... although if it were me I'd have thrown Myers against Matsui to start it. Overall, I think it's been a well managed series. You can't really blame any of these games on the managers (IMHO).
  11. It's true... well, what do you expect from Sox fans! I have to admit I voted this morning, so I have a 50/50 chance of being right with my prediction.... and I predicted (of course) Sox in 7 What a comeback it has already been. Come on boys.... let's make history!
  12. Interesting prediction. Call me crazy, but I'm going with Bill Mueller. I've got a good feeling about him.
  13. Pedro is a warrior. It was obvious Monday he didn't have his best command, he had lost 3-5 MPH on his fastball from even game 2 (when he was hitting 94-95 a lot), and he STILL pitched a good game against a GREAT offensive team. Pedro battles. He's fearless. He LOVES pitching for this city, this team. He loves pressure situations. A note to John Henry: Fenway Park sold out EVERY SINGLE GAME this season... so don't cry poor anymore... we don't buy it.
  14. Foulke's been good so far in the playoffs. I was worried (and stated that fact many times) that he blew a big game in the playoffs last year against us, but he's done more than we could have dreamed for this team the last 3 days. Keith Foulke (along with the other bullpen guys) has been amazing so far. All we need is 1 more game of good work from that bullpen and they can have a day off. I guess it's a whole different world out here than in the midwest, because I always liked both Chicago teams. I watched a lot of WGN growing up so it was nice to see them succeed. In New England, you can't POSSIBLY like both teams. I'm sure it's the same in Chicago.
  15. In case this was directed at me-- I'm not giving up. I am trying to be realistic. We know for a fact that the pressure's on the Yankees... but since they're no strangers to pressure and historically don't buckle... I wouldn't consider that an advantage. Well, it's down to 1 in a row. The last 6 games need to be forgotten. It's down to this, game 7, Yankee stadium. Who's the hero?
  16. Pedro's awesome. I think John Henry and company need to do what it takes to sign this guy to a reasonable contract. If his demands become unreasonable... well... then it gets difficult. I would be so pissed to see another Red Sox icon in Yankee pinstripes... They need to resign Pedro. He's not the #1 guy anymore (sorry Petey, but Schilling IS that guy), but he's the best #2 pitcher available... and he's done so much for this organization. RESIGN PEDRO!
  17. What do I think? I'm excited as hell that the Sox are still in it. They live to play another day. We have a chance to take down the evil empire. I'm pissed it got to this. I'm angry with our team for getting themselves into a deep whole. I'm thrilled these games have been so well-played. As a baseball fan, it doesn't get much better than the last two games. I'm nervous. Like any Red Sox fan in October, I'm confident in our guys, but just waiting for them to let me down.
  18. yeah, you're right. We Red Sox fans complain a lot (me included) but we've got to accept the fact that no matter what happens in this series, at least this team is entertaining. No wonder people in Tampa, Montreal, etc give up on their teams.... Crushing defeats are what make the Red Sox the Red Sox. It's a lot more painful losing a series in 6 or 7 than in 4. Sure, we can say "We gave it one hell of a series," but in the end, it's a loss. If they get swept, it's not as big a dissapointment, because the team gave very little hope to begin with. I really hope they win. I don't know if I can handle another loss to the f'in yankees
  19. I think the same is true for everone. I knew a guy from Seattle who knew very little about baseball... but knew baseball fans there hated the Yankees. I know we (Red Sox fans) are not alone. Most of baseball hates the Yankees. Unfortunately, that won't help us now.
  20. interesting theory, but I disagree with you. Even if the Sox win tonight (and that's still a very big if), they have to come back and win again in game 7. The Yankees aren't going to roll over, and we should know from experience that momentum can change by the SECOND in baseball. Let's face facts. This team was beating up on Roger Clemens a year ago, prepared to put the game out of reach, when Mike Mussina stepped onto the mound and killed the Sox hopes. He dominated the Red Sox long enough to give the Yankees a chance to come back and break all of our hearts. Momentum is a wonderful thing. Obviously a win tonight would give the Red Sox the momentum going in to game 7. But all it takes is 3 runs in the first from the Yankees to turn the momentum the other way. A win tonight puts the pressure on the Yankees for sure. But they've shown they don't buckle under pressure.
  21. Good. Someone get Terry Francona on the horn. The suspense is killing me. What will we get from Schilling? Will somone not named David Ortiz step up? Can David Ortiz continue to swing a hot bat? Can the Sox figure out Jon Lieber? Can this game possibly end before midnight?
  22. I agree and disagree. I agree that Dave Roberts is VERY important to this team, and without him we wouldn't be where we are now. Fact: In BOTH of the last 2 games, Dave Roberts scored the tying run with Mariano Rivera on the mound. Fact: He's done it before for the Red Sox at Yankee stadium. I disagree that he should be starting. I think he's great, but I like knowing he's there and ready to help at a moment's notice. I like the fact that no matter who get on in late innings, Dave Roberts is available to pinch run and make a difference. Yes, Roberts could play CF, leadoff, and be very good. But would I feel as confident with Johnny Damon at first with the Red Sox trailing by 1? No. It just doesn't seem like he's got the same feel for basestealing that Roberts has. Johnny Damon doesn't upset the opposing pitcher as much as Roberts does. and besides, despite his recent funk, Johnny Damon is simply a more dangerous hitter than Dave Roberts.
  23. I think a rainout would help New York and hurt Boston. Let's face it: The Sox have the momentum right now and need to keep it. Rivera's been worked hard. Gordon's been worked hard. Allowing them a night off only makes them stronger! Yes, the Sox bullpen is tired too. But as I've posted before, I think a guy like Foulke or Wakefield bounces back better because he's not a power pitcher... call me crazy. I think Mirabelli should start tonight for the following reasons: Varitek is struggling at the plate. Varitek is 0-5 in his career against Lieber. Varitek has caught 26 innings in the last 2 games. Mirabelli is more than capable. Mirabelli is 3-8 in his career against Lieber. Mirabelli is fresh. I love Varitek, but the man's been beaten up the last 2 nights. Catching is the hardest position to play, and he could use at least a few innings off.
  24. beaneater: You certainly can talk about the what-ifs, and dream about the possibility of overtaking the evil empire in the most glorious way possible (4 straight) I was just trying to keep you from an even bigger dissapointment should the Red Sox not pull it off. I've had those thoughts too.... and I don't really believe in curses or jinxes either... post away.
