  1. Good to see Bogaerts back in the lineup.
  2. Jerry Meals, according to Gameday. Never heard of him.
  3. Thanks for that, Max. You're right that it seems to be working, based on the numbers. It must be frustrating as heck for the other team to see a guy who's not throwing particularly hard, who (as you say) doesn't have a quiverful of different pitches, and who spends big chunks of the game operating way outside the strike zone, and yet puts up zeroes more often than not.
  4. Admittedly, I'm just "watching" the game on MLB Gameday, so I'm not actually seeing the action. But it seems to me that Pom is throwing a lot of non-competitive pitches. Gets a bit ahead in the count, then throws a pitch or two that are way out of the strike zone. The sort of pitch that a major league hitter is not really tempted to swing at. What's the point of that? Why miss the zone by a foot? Or does he really not know where it's going?
  5. Odorizzi, thankfully, is even more defecatory tonight.
  6. Yep. I'm just hoping, as d-money said, for a strong ride into the break, and that we can keep the momentum after the break too.
  7. Abad getting a save in a 14-run game is pure awesome.
  8. Does Benintendi not know that Estrada can't find the strike zone with a map and a professional guide tonight?
  9. This has got to be the lousiest no-hitter ever.
  10. Aaaaaaand Estrada has lost the strike zone. Time for us to do something Red Soxxy like popping into a non-quite-infield-fly triple play!
  11. Walking Lin and Marrero back to back... that's the sort of thing we really really have to make them pay for.
  12. The Smoak-bomb is officially d-money's fault.
  13. Our guy has a better W-L record. That proves he is a better pitcher!
  14. Single, single, single, home run, double for Hembree. Yikes.
  15. That escalated quickly. Didn't Hembree start the season off reasonably good? Now we just need a bloop and a bloop and a bloop and a bloop and a bloop and a bloop and a bloop and a bloop and a blast. Should be easy enough.
  16. I was going to say something like, "World's lowest bar to clear," but that would be snarky.
  17. I'm with you, sk. Didn't see the replays but at live speed Bogaerts obviously beat the ball to the bag. So unless there was some claim that he came off the sack while the tag was applied... Would have been nice to give Pablo a chance for an insurance RBI.
  18. Can we somehow trick Kimbrel into thinking that the first batter of an inning is actually the third batter? So that he'll say to himself, "OK, already walked the first two, now I gotta buckle down"?
  19. Got a good feeling about this one. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing...
  20. Much rather have Hill in the lineup than Hanley.
  21. Why not? Is there any risk of overexertion when you're only throwing 75 mph? [EDIT: That's meant to be an actual question. I don't know the answer to it.]
  22. So... Uh... Nice day here in Michigan. Anything going on in the Sox game? Kelly's pitching acceptably, you say? That's nice... So does he get another inning? It's pretty impressive that he's sitting at +\- 96 mph after almost 100 pitches. The break must have done him some good.
  23. Lance McCullers. Young guy making his first start of the year (shoulder problems). An effective pitcher last year. Probably wishing his season debut could be against the Braves instead of the painful reality. Speaking of the Braves, in the last 4 games the Sox have scored just over half as many runs (51) as the Braves have scored all year so far (101).
