  1. Those have the potential of being monstrous line-ups. Let's go!
  2. It is a sucky position. There's no right answer as far as as I can tell, or to put it more precisely, there's no one person to blame. The umpire sucked. Also, JBJ watched four strikes go by with the bases loaded. And Pedroia took a third strike which was objectively off the plate, but not by much, and which was nicely framed by the catcher. With the bases loaded. In an elimination game. Aaaaaagh!
  3. Only two bad strikes, according to Pitch F/X -- one each to JBJ and Pedroia. In fact, JBJ stood and watched four pitches go by in the strike zone, and should have been out without even seeing a fifth pitch. That being said, the strike three call was brutal. Pedroia got jobbed, plain and simple. However, I agree with those posters who talked about protecting the plate. In that situation, you can not strike out. Once you've got the two strikes on you, you've got to be thinking about fouling off the tough ones, dumping one the other way, just plain making something happen. Not hoping that the umpire will magically stop calling strikes on pitches off the plate.
  4. No kidding. They overthought the pitching. You have an 8th inning guy and a closer. Use them. Oh, well. Good season, and better postseason than last year. And I suppose it's not technically over yet. Maybe a little JBJ-bomb? Stranger things have happened.
  5. Should have been Reed in the 8th, Kimbrel in the 9th. Sometimes you just go with the old standby.
  6. We are so snakebit today and the score is still 2-1. We're winning this game by multiple runs.
  7. Crap. Right on the cusp of a huge strand, and he throws another middle-middle ball to Springer. OK, get out of it here, Porky.
  8. Get the ball down, Porky! Unless you're throwing 98 mph up out of the zone like Kimbrel.
  9. Oh, I agree with you. I just wish that he could graduate from just plain wild to effectively wild. You know, like maybe accidentally hit a corner every once in a while...
  10. The good news is that at 25 pitches per inning, we won't have to watch Porcello for long. Hope he can smooth it out, settle down, and give us some quality innings. I just don't quite get how he gets the first batter to 1-2 and then throws a middle-middle fastball. Baffling.
  11. Time for JBJ to go on one of his patented 1.400+ OPS streaks for the next, oh, 12-15 games or so.
  12. And now back to our regularly scheduled, you know, entertainment.
  13. No need to take cover, but if you are serious about having contacted UConn, that is seriously inappropriate. You have jumped into a situation whose background you don't understand (and which Thunder explains very clearly and compassionately) and you have made an accusation that, in today's climate, could have a serious impact on Thunder's college career and, by extension, the rest of his life. If you have in fact contacted UConn, I would beseech you to write back and say, "Oh, my bad, I misinterpreted the situation and it's not what I thought it was. Please disregard my previous email." I get where you are coming from as the father of college girls. (I have two not-yet-college-age boys, myself.) I am not trying to flame you; I am asking you to weigh the possibility that your email to UConn is likely to do more harm (to Thunder) than good (to anyone), given the context of the remarks.
  14. Price OPSing 2.000 for the season!
  15. Huge outing for Scott. We might still steal this one.
  16. Gaaaaahhh!! Who are all these stiffs? (In the sense of "What a bunch of schmoes", not "I don't understand why Moonslav just posted a list of random names.".) I've never even heard of Herrera, Rivero, or Snyder.
  17. This kid is going to get rich. Bigly.
  18. I think the kid just might stick.
  19. I'm with you, TylerD. It's 1:30 am here. Gotta hit the hay. Good night to all, and here's to waking up to news of a Sox victory.
  20. You and I are thinking very much alike tonight.
  21. Now with extra bonus points for failing to even get the runner to third base either time!
  22. Big-time professional at-bat for Moreland no matter how it ends up. EDIT: Which was "not well"...
  23. Let's play the Squander a Runner at 2nd With No One Out Game again!
