  1. What holmes said. Here I will expose my ignorance. Everyone talks about Jed being prone to injury, not likely able to stick it out for a whole year, etc. I remember a wrist injury (which he seems to be fully recovered from) and a case of mono (not sure what he was supposed to do to avoid that). Am I forgetting something? Anyhoo, it seems just as likely to be crappy luck than fragility. Unless he was oft-injured in college or the minors or something. Then I guess we can talk about injury-proneness. Lowrie > Scutaro. That should be the end of the discussion. I'm not really sure why Tito is relegating him to utility guy at this stage of the game.
  2. Ortiz and Youk strike out looking. What the heck? Well, it's almost 1:30 AM here. I'll find out how we won tomorrow morning. 'Night, all.
  3. Very quick inning for Wake. He could take this thing all the way if he doesn't implode (big if, I know).
  4. Drew says to his teammates, "Look, you losers, this is what you do when facing Bergesen and his ilk. Please try to follow along."
  5. Ha ha, you're kidding, right?
  6. Oh, but we're in full make-the-opposing-scrub-pitcher-look-like-the-reincarnation-of-Cy-Young mode now, baby. It's a Red Sox specialty.
  7. I saw Cash catch Wakefield in Detroit a couple of years back. Wake went 8IP 0R. Anecdotal evidence and all, but I think it proves scientifically that Wakefield will be awesome tonight.
  8. Leave it to Kevin Cash to show the rest of the team how to make the pitcher work a little.
  9. Is that really the Julio Lugo playing second base for the Orioles? How the mighty have fallen.
  10. The pitchers are at 37 pitches COMBINED through 2 innings. Dice-K needs 37 pitches to intentionally walk one batter.
  11. I like this Cash guy. Wake's in line for a 77-pitch CG SO. Wait for it...
  12. Apparently so. I'm sure this has been done already, but I find this amazing: CF Ellsbury 2B Pedroia 1B Martinez 3B Lowell C Varitek LF Hermida SS Lowrie RF ??? DH ??? SP Beckett RP Delcarmen RP Tazawa Just throw in a couple of AAA scrubs at RF and DH, and you have an above-average MLB team. Sheesh. EDIT: No jokes about our current RF being halfway to the DL under the best of circumstances.
  13. Why is Patterson starting in left? Is Nava hurt too? I mean, if you have have to use a AAA guy, use the switch-hitting spraying-doubles-in-the-gap AAA guy, no? EDIT: I mean Eric Patterson for us, not Corey Patterson for them. What are the odds of having both starting LFs in game named Patterson? EDIT, PART DEUX: Really, though, if you slide Nava in there instead of Patterson, that's not an awful lineup. Amazing that we can still field a sort-of pretty good team considering that we have the equivalent of a very good team on the DL right now.
  14. The bullpen was even better today. Sat around chewing sunflower seeds while Lester chewed up the Giants. That's my kind of bullpen action!
  15. Yes indeedy. Tampa Bay, welcome to undisputed possession of 3rd place. You can keep it, you know.
  16. The best part is Lester's rediscovered efficiency. He used, what, 103 pitches for a CG? The last few outings, if I'm recalling correctly from memory, he's pitched pretty well but had trouble getting to the later innings because of pitch count. Today, he just hosed the Giants from the get-go, and efficiently, too. Excellent stuff.
  17. I just want someone to finish out the game. Could be Josh Reddick for all I care.
  18. Dustin. Pedroia. That is all.
  19. Paps making it interesting... as usual...
  20. DFA Nava. Am I the first one to say it? I hope so. Dang, all this kid does is pound XBH.
  21. Lots of "scrubs" in the lineup tonight. I bet we don't score more than 8.
  22. He just singlehandedly ensured that this is Hamels' last inning.
