I should update that. I looked at Baylor about a month ago. Looked around Waco. Changed my mind in 15 minutes.
Sometimes players go into slumps. You heard of these? Trot went into them too. Oh, but his hat was dirty, so he gets a pass.
If J.D. Drew isn't hitting at least .275 by the end of the year, I will break a beer bottle over the head.
This guy's career EQA (OH NO! A MATH FORMULA) is over .300.
That's better than Ichiro's.
Better than Andruw Jones. (Who makes Wily Mo Pena look like Juan Pierre in terms of contact)
Better than Torii Hunter.
Oh, but they have grit. Which is equal to about 1000 extra runs. If we had Trot, too! We'd out grit everyone. Plus, Erstad! And Eckstein!
$14 M per Drew.
That will be less than the committment for Torii Hunter.
Less than the committment for Andruw Jones.
Less than the committment for Ichiro.
I believe you want to sign all of them over J.D Drew. Even though, Drew has the advantage in every statistical category. (EQA, OBP, OPS+)
Oh, but he doesn't dive for flyballs.
Or have a dirty white hat.
Or was a Punter at Nebraska.
I'm going to take this statement literally.
Career OBP - .391
Career SLG% - .504
Why do you hate George W. so much. You would get along. You both have the problem of misleading people.
From the Atlanta Braves, J.D Drew took $4.2 million in 2004. The Dodgers offered him $11 million annually. The Braves couldn't hope to match that offer. They wanted him back. Do you know why?
Because he was the best player on that team, by a longshot.

The Dodgers didn't blink an eye? You mean other than bitching for a month about tampering?
Colletti : "We don't like J.D Drew."
Sportscaster : "Well, he just opted out and signed with the Red Sox."
Colletti : "What the f***? Why did he opt out? This is tampering."
Doesn't sound like they hated J.D Drew that much. Is it the dementia kicking in? Or are you really this bad at rationalization?
The white Carl Everett? C'mon. Seriously.
Career OBP - .391
Career SLG% - .504
Oh, f*** him to hell.
Maybe because the Red Sox had offered him $70 million already? Who were the other suitors realistically?
Your quote.
Career OBP - .391
Career SLG% - .504
Nothing but?
I'm sure Lugo had to get a hit, to score him. Oh, and Youkilis' double to score Lugo. And Ortiz single to score Youkilis.
But that was the big one. Not the fact that our chances of winning went up much higher when Youkilis crossed the plate.
Are you kidding? Opposing pitchers love this guy.
He gets on base 29% of the time. Huge distraction.
With each players current stats:
A team of Coco Crisp's would score 481.14 runs
A team of J.D Drew's would score 648 runs.
So 9 J.D Drew's score 166.86 more runs than Team Crisp. That's probably worth about 16 additional wins.
In a micro sense:
J.D Drew has created .4 runs a game this year. Multiply that by 162, and you get 64.8. Not very good, but still substantially better than the 48.1 runs out of Crisp. Drew is worth about two more wins over the course of the season.
This assumes that Drew will continue to hit this poorly, and Crisp will resemble Mario Mendoza. We know one assumption will be true. So expect that gap to widen.
Why change things? Because if you put Wily Mo Pena into the lineup, the Red Sox would be a better team. It's that simple.
