  1. The Globe pretty much spells it out for you doubters... "Boston needs a shortstop. Tejada wants to be traded. Manny Ramirez wants to be traded. If you need assistance connecting the dots, perhaps now is a good time to put down the rubber cement. "
  2. Too be honest, if we get Miggy, I'd do everything in our power to hold on to Manny... that would be one scary lineup. Plus Miggy is not as expensive as you all make him out to be, he cost less than a #2-#3 starter these days, and less then Rent costs us.
  3. even if they all finished with 4.50 ERA's, we'd have a team scoring 6-7 runs per game.
  4. I'm not saying that we should give up both Lester AND Marte... I'm just saying, the Red Sox have more bargaining power than you think. Think about it, we wanted to trade Manny, however the big problem was that the teams that wanted him really couldn't take on his salary (aside from the Mets). I really think that if Tejada REALLY wants out, he'll get traded... and the Red Sox BADLY need a shortstop. Like I said before, baseball is a business, and it is NOT looking good in Baltimore. Anyone who says that the Orioles wouldn't trade Miggy to the Red Sox simply because they're in the same division doesn't know baseball.
  5. You all seem to think we're lacking in pitching, but Schilling-Beckett-Papelbon (by the end of the season), seems like one of the best 1-2-3 punches in the league. Anyway which we could grab Miggy would do wonders, I think we can pass on pursuing pitching for now and try and get miggy, then we can go back to pitching.
  6. To get Tejada, the O's wouldn't want to take on a lot of Salary and they certainly don't want high contract players either. So it would probably be like Lester, Youkilis/Marte, Arroyo, and maybe more. I have a feeling there is more to this than meets the eye, I wanna see how this plays out as the week goes on.
  7. the orioles are still a 4th place team, at best. No starting pitching, no closer, and an unhappy short-stop.
  8. ok they wouldn't want Tek, they just signed Ramon Hernandez. Trading for Tejada doesn't seem all that unreasonable, it seems like more than just a coincidence that Tejada asks for a trade the same day we trade Renteria. I know Baltimore plays in our division, but it's not like with the Yankees where we would never directly deal with them. Remember, baseball is a business more than anything else, if you have a $72 million dollar headache, your going to give it to whoever will take him at the right price. You have to look at things from a Baltimore perspective. This off-season has been a disaster. They couldn't get Konerko, they haven't been able to sign any pitchers, the team is pretty much in a slide. Toronto has gotten WAY better and the Red Sox and Yankees are as usual the class of the AL East. Does Baltimore want to field a 80+ million dollar team that's going to be competing with Tampa Bay for last place? So, just to sum up, yeah Tejada may be just be blowing off some steam. But lets be honest here, if Baltimore doesn't start getting some talent on that team, would you blame them if they Traded Tejeda in favor of making it a more profitable season? I wouldn't.
  9. Another fine ballplayer with a lot of class. Best of luck to him in LA.
  10. OMG, this seems like a HUGE coincidence that Tejada asks for a trade the same day we get rid of Renteria... fate? I might also add that he is good friends with David Ortiz
  11. I'm telling you right now... we need to make some sort of package to get Felipe Lopez from the Reds. I know they want Youkilis, so there's still hope.
  12. He's terrible, why would anyone want him? He hasn't been the same since the 03 season.
  13. Only if the Red Sox have something bigger up their sleeves... this still leaves us with two vacant infield spots... not to mention a void in centerfield which should have been filled already, just give Johnny the money already.
  14. Ummm... this is just a thought, but what if we dealt Manny & cash to the reds for Adam Dunn and Felipe Lopez. That kills three birds with one stone... I know the Reds haven't expressed interest in Manny, but its always worth offering if they're trying to win this year.
  15. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2252297 "The Braves and Red Sox have agreed on a deal that would ship shortstop Edgar Renteria to Atlanta in exchange for Braves third-base prospect Andy Marte, ESPN's Peter Gammons has learned. An official announcement is expected in an hour." Ok... now we need a short-stop... and still a 1B... Aside from Lugo... who's out there?
  16. Excellent deal, but we need to get back to the task at hand... re-sign Damon! We might also want to look for a new backup catcher. Overall though, excellent off-season thus far.
  17. Let's be honest if you had the choice between Manny in LF and Milledge in LF, I don't think the choice would be that hard. Besides nobody knows what Milledge would do on a major league level, would make perfect sense for the Mets.
  18. Step 1: Trade Manny Ramirez A proposed three-way deal between Oakland, New York Mets, and Boston Red Sox. New York Mets recieve: LF Manny Ramirez (from Red Sox) RP Octavio Dotel (from A's) Red Sox recieve: SP Barry Zito (from A's) CF Lastings Milledge (from Mets) Oakland A's recieve: SP Kris Benson (from Mets) 3B Kevin Youkilis (from Red Sox) RF Victor Diaz (from Mets) Step 2: Re-sign Johnny Damon With Manny's salary out of the way, we have some spending money. Meet him half way, 4 years $40 million. Step 3: Get a first baseman Trade Bronson Arroyo (or Matt Clement) to the Brewers for 1B Lyle Overbay. Step 4: Trade David Wells He wants out, we don't need him, but we do need a 2B. Package Wells with Mirabelli, and send him to the Padres for 2B Mark Loretta and RP Scott Linebrink. Step 5: Get Bobby Abreu The Phillies don't want him, and we may have what it takes to get him. Trade SP Matt Clement, and RF Trot Nixon for RF Bobby Abreu. Starting Rotation: 1. RHP Curt Schilling 2. LHP Barry Zito 3. RHP Josh Beckett 4. RHP Tim Wakefield 5. RHP Jonathan Papelbon Bullpen: 1. RHP Keith Foulke (Closer) 2. RHP Guillermo Mota (Setup) 3. LHP Scott Linebrink 4. RHP Craig Hansen 5. RHP Mike Timlin 6. RHP Matt Mantei Lineup: 1. CF Johnny Damon 2. SS Edgar Renteria 3. DH David Ortiz 4. RF Bobby Abreu 5. 1B Lyle Overbay 6. C Jason Varitek 7. 3B Mike Lowell 8. 2B Mark Loretta 9. LF Lastings Milledge
  19. Ever since the Arod incident, I don't read too much into rumors and negotiations. Sometimes the best trades or FA signings come out of no where like the Beckett deal. So yeah, it would appear Farnsworth is headed to NY, but don't read too much into it.
  20. Foulke in 06 Hansen in 07 our bullpen for 06 ideally 6 IP for Starters 7th Hansen 8th Mota 9th Foulke
  21. Patriots shut out in the first half? Vinatieri misses a FG? The Patriots look flat, but on a bright note, they are only down by three and will get the ball to start the 2nd half.
  22. Wow, both teams totally blew it this post-season. Red Sox didn't have the pitching, and the Yankees were too inconsistent. The top 2 teams (preseason wise) both knocked out in the first round. Well, just goes to show, money can get you in the playoffs but it can't get you a championship. Chicago vs. LA... who saw that coming?
  23. And how long can our offense be shut down, we're going to tear them to shreds at home.
