  1. Don't count on it, outfielders seem to last forever these days.
  2. Why would the Yankees do that... they just got Damon...
  3. That still doesn't change the fact that Loretta has an edge, maybe not a big one, but an edge on Cano. They will probably match each other offensively, but I still think Loretta handles those hard hit ground balls in the hole better than Cano.
  4. I disagree with you on Cano being better than Loretta. Loretta played in PetCo park, which is like a mile to each home run marker, so his average is going to dramatically increase coming to Fenway. Not to mention that Loretta has the intagibles, veteran leadership, many All-star appearences, and adds much more defensively than Cano does. And have we not heard of the sophomore slump? Just ask Eric Hinske.
  5. Here's how the players stack up against the Yankees lineup position vs position IN MY OPINION: 1B Giambi > Youkilis/Snow 2B Loretta > Cano SS Jeter > Gonzalez/Cora 3B Rodriguez > Lowell LF Manny > Matsui CF Damon = Crisp RF Sheffield > Nixon C Varitek > Posada DH Ortiz > Bernie Williams (Not sure if he's their DH) So its a 4-4-1 Deadlock... now pitching is another story...
  6. If you look at CoCo Crisp stats... http://www.baseball-reference.com/c/crispco01.shtml You'll notice that he's gotten progressively better every year since 2002, and hasn't even hit his prime yet. Add to that the fact that he's going to have the "Fenway Effect" added to his stats, and we've got a solid leadoff man with decent speed. Not to mention this guy is a fricken web gem machine. Did we give up a bit much to get him, yeah probably, but it not only solves our CF problem, but gives us a good one at that. Now Alex Gonzalez I'm a little bit confused by. If we were going to use Cora at SS to begin with, then why sign Gonzalez at all? What does Gonzalez have to offer that Cora doesn't? Is it possible that Red Sox plan on trading Cora? I dunno, the Gonzalez signing seems stupid.
  7. If its good for the sox it probably won't happen.
  8. If we did that deal, would we be getting anything else besides Tejada? I mean, you don't exactly just throw in Marte...
  9. Trading Manny for a SS who plays 162 Games a year and is the best at what he does... give me that in a heart beat.
  10. I wouldn't mind seeing a deal that looked something like this... Orioles get: SP Kris Benson (from NYM) SP Matt Clement (from Bos) RF Cliff Floyd (from NYM) IF/OF Aubrey Huff (from TB) Cash Considerations (from Bos and/or NYM) Devil Rays get: SP Aaron Heilman (from NYM) SP Brian Bannister (from NYM) Red Sox get: SS Miguel Tejada (from BAL) CF Lastings Milledge (from NYM) Mets get: LF Manny Ramirez (from BOS) RP Jorge Julio (from BAL) Something to that extent. Cause at least we're getting some sort of future replacement for Manny.
  11. NO!!! The only acceptable departure of Manny is if we get Tejada in return. Without that, no sum of talent can equal what we're giving up. If that were to happen, I'd want at least Milledge instead of Bannister.
  12. All I want for Christmas is a quality starter and a good SS...
  13. To be honest, I'm perfectly happy with the Youth Movement in Boston, deeping the pitching staff and getting younger is exactly what this club needs. There's no need to mimmic the Yankees policy of writing checks and dealing the farm, because we can't compete like that, this however is a club that will raise eyebrows in 2006. Let's just hope all the pieces start falling into place...
  14. It looks like our fall back plan involves trades for Reed and Glaus, and signing Millwood. Lineup Would be... 1 Reed (CF) 2 Loretta (2B) 3 Ortiz (DH) 4 Manny (LF) 5 Glaus (1B) 6 Varitek © 7 Nixon (RF) 8 Lowell/Youkilis (3B) 9 ??? (SS) Pitching 1 Schilling 2 Beckett 3 Millwood 4 Wakefield 5 Arroyo/Clement/Papelbon That's assuming Wells is traded and either Clement or Arroyo gets traded.
  15. Why don't we stop worrying about all these holes we have and focus on building a pitching staff like the White Sox did? Sign Millwood and Clemens, and then stregnthen the bullpen. The runs will come, but you can never have too much pitching... /end rant
  16. You can never have too much pitching. The AL ERA king would be welcomed here.
  17. Stop blaming this on Damon. He called the Red Sox to match the offer, they said no, hence Damon is a Yankee. Possible suitors now for CF, my choice would be Jeremy Reed, but with the M's signing Washburn, would they really want Clement. That CoCo Crisp deal is s*****, so who does it leave?
  18. Don't blame Damon, blame ownership.
  19. This is great, eveyone is going crazy, it's hard to blame Damon for his decision, but we certainly have a lot of question marks on the team now. Who will play centerfield? Is Beckett's bad MRI's going to haunt the Red Sox all year? No Myers? No Bradford? Foulke to close again? Schilling completely healthy for 2006 season? Is Alex Gonzalez or whoever gets stuck in there really enough for SS? Manny still going to be Manny? it just goes on and on....
  20. And thus... the downward spiral of the Red Sox 2006 off-season continues... What started with a spark is a mere flicker of hope for a long season ahead of us. :/
  21. s***, that will be interesting when the Yankees and the Red Sox meet.
  22. http://www.ecnnews.com/cgi-bin/05/snstory.pl?-sec-Sports+1k589g0+fn-nredsox.1216-20051216- Now you probably wondering why there's a sad face on the side of this post. Well, to be honest, I hate this trade. I really don't want the Red Sox to do it. Since when is CoCo Crisp that good? Mota is going to be a huge part of our Bullpen, and if we're going to trade Marte, we better damn sure get someone better than CoCo out of the deal. Hate it, don't want the Sox to do it. Just re-sign Damon already.
  23. Are you kidding? He was terrible. Just about anyone would be an improvement.
  24. Ummm... so I guess Tejada didn't really want to be traded after all. Talk about the media playing on words... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2256260
  25. You guys really need to open your eyes a little bit, I don't know how much more this could have been spelled out.
