  1. Derek Lowe is the worst pitcher in the history of Major League Baseball. I am now convinced. We should release him and take our chances with Frank Castillo. Did I seriously just say that?
  2. Could you explain your stance on that?
  3. I've never heard of a player who was top 10 in the league in OPS in a season and the fans of his own team call him overrated. Shameful.
  4. You would honestly choose Johnny Damon over the next Micky Mantle and you can sleep at night? You can justify having a .275/15 guy over a .300/30 guy who's just as fast and better defensively? I'm sorry but Beltran is head and shoulders above Damon in every imaginable category known to man except for hair length and amount of facial hair.
  5. The more I watch Youkilis, the less I want the Sox to pick up Mueller's 2005 option. Hell, maybe they should throw Mueller on the 15-day DL for his knee and give Youkilis an extended look.
  6. If Youkilis produces at Pawtucket once he's returned there and Mueller continues to struggle with consistency at the plate and nagging injuries, no one should be surprised if the Sox don't take Mueller's 2005 option and hand the job to Youkilis.
  7. Lowe's as good as gone, no matter how well or how poorly he pitches. If he pitches well, he'll price himself out of the Sox's range. If he pitches poorly, they're not going to want him back for the rediculous amounts of money he's asking for. Of all the potential free agents, he's the most likely to be gone.
  8. We've already got him. Now it is just a matter of grooming and developing him for the next 3-4 minor league seasons.
  9. The official rumor looks something like this: Sox- Give up Damon and Kim, Get Beltran Mariners- Give up Garcia, Get Damon and Kim Royals- Give up Beltran, Get Garcia That's what I understood this whole ordeal to be.
  10. Soto has some very good tools as well as an excellent batting eye. He and Hanley could be a deadly SS-2B middle-infield combo, but I don't want to go too excited over Soto yet, because he has yet to appear in an official organizational game and he won't be a major leaguer until 2007.
  11. A Scott Boras client with a big mouth and a shaky mental attitude not returning to his former team?!? Pinch me, I must be dreaming.

I'm noticing that as well, but I'll take two runs in the first and no runs for the rest of the game any day of the week.
  13. If nothing changes in the prospect and free agent department (HUGELY unlikely), the team will look like this: C- Shoppach 1B- West 2B- Luis Soto SS- Hanley 3B- Youkilis LF- Murton CF- Murphy RF- Trot DH- Manny Alvarez Lester Delcarmen Gamble Cedeno Anastacio Martinez So pretty, much, that's the All-Prospect Team with Trot in RF and Manny at DH. That has about a 0.01% chance of happening. I think the only ones who will have any sticking power in Boston are Shoppach, the Bash Brothers (the inseperable Murphy and Murton, who I think have the best chance), Alvarez and Manny Delcarmen (a Boston native, might I add). That list could quickly change if Manny D. doesn't recover from TJ surgery, Varitek is re-signed and Shoppach is shipped out or any of those boys don't live up to potential.
  14. www.baseball.com- Sign on, get hooked. NetSports is Internet crack for baseball fans. It has all the benefits of talking baseball and all the side-effects of Yankee fans. My thought process with Milton was that I had assumed that he was a groundball pitcher, but I assumed wrong and a Sox-fan, stat-head named Steve showed me the light, because I was too lazy to look it up myself. As far as needing a lefty, a .200 BAA against lefties is a .200 BAA against lefties, no matter what hand the hitter throws the ball out of. Prime example: Andy Pettitte. The Anti-Pettitte: Mariano Rivera.
  15. I've jumped off of the Milton bandwagon. Surprise, surprise, but Steve convinced me of not wanting Milton any more (NetSporters know who I'm talking about). I had no idea how extreme of a flyball pitcher he was. It would be like getting Jarrod Washburn, who is immensely overrated as well. The key for success at Fenway is either missing a lot of bats via the K, or inducing groundballs. Well, that's the theory anyway and the reason for Lowe's lack of success this season has been his inability to consistently get that groundball, not to mention some shoddy defense behind him. I also think the whole "lefty starter being a necessity" is ********, especially for a guy who makes 15+ starts at Fenway. We need a guy who can get people out; who cares what hand he throws the ball out of anyway. Besides, we have Abe Alvarez, who could be ready as early as next season should the Sox deem him so, and two twenty year-olds in Juan Cedeno and Jon Lester who are all top prospects for left-handed starters on the way.
  16. I was thinking of a Hanley Ramirez, Juan Cedeno, PTBNL and cash package. That's just my idea, but I think it's feasible and also changable. Of course, I have no feedback from the Cleveland organization for them to tell me what they would want, but that's what I would ask for from the Sox.
  17. Well, I think that all starts with a certain starting pitcher whose head is in his wallet and not on his game...
  18. This was something off of the top of my head. I realize that C.C. is a player to build around, but the Guardians still need a good deal of time before players like Grady Sizemore, Victor Martinez and Michael Aubrey become the great players they are projected to be. I could see the Guardians swinging for a deal like this because they would get an impact shortstop with All-Star potential, a rediculously hard-throwing young lefthander, another player and money to spend. The Guardians also have Cliff Lee, Jason Davis, Jake Westbrook, Francisco Cruceta, Jeremy Guthrie, Jake Dittler, Brian Tallet, Billy Traber and Fausto Carmona to build a rotation around, not to mention a future top-notch closer in Fernando Cabrera. I think they can spare a pitcher of now for another pitcher of tomorrow and a All-Star shortstop with only Jhonny Peralta to plug the gap for the forseeable future. I like this move for the Red Sox, even if it means giving up Hanley.
  19. I was just thinking about C.C. and how great he's pitching and looked him up on ESPN and http://www.sports-wired.com. I was amazed at how big he actually is, 6'7", 290 lbs! I knew he was big, but I had no idea that he weighed two Pokeys. The Sox have a lot of questions coming up this off-season, especially in the starting pitching department. This guy is an ace on a rebuilding team and he's also young. Do you think the Sox have a chance to pick him up this off-season? He could be a left-handed Curt Schilling. I was thinking of a package of Hanley Ramirez, Juan Cedeno, a PTBNL and some cash for C.C. What do you guys think about C.C., his upside or what it would take for the Sox to get him?

Oh yeah, that makes three of us on here so far. But I'm probably the only Portagee (localized slang for a person of Portuguese descent).

Woo Hoo! Go Southeastern Massachusetts! Home of the RemDawg, former Dodger Greg Gagne and failed Red Sox prospect Brian Rose! I'm a "Southeastern Massachusetts refugee currently stationed in Boston", as I like to call myself.
  22. I like what Beltran offers to the Sox, but they don't have the money or place to put him right now. It would take a lot of tricky manuevering and a lot of cash to come out of nowhere, but it would be great to see him in a Sox uniform. Someone made a comment to me not too long ago about Beltran reminding them of Barry Bonds early in his career. Some food for thought there.
  23. The Sox don't need to trade for a bat with pop on the bench. Andy Dominique is destroying AAA pitching and is a Craig Wilson type player who can play C, 1B, DH and even a little 3B if necessary. If push comes to shove after that, Youkilis can always be brought up after that. I really don't think that the Sox need to trade for anything, barring a major injury of course. This team is set for a championship. Just let the offense get healthy and our entire team consistent and we'll dominate.
  24. Big Papi Ortiz got 25 votes from me too. Hopefully he'll make the team. He might be the best 1B/DH in the AL by the time the All-Star Game comes.
