  1. He was in the FSL this year, but the likely didn't include him on the list due to his recovery from TJS. After Manny came back in May, the Sox limited his pitch-count strictly, so he would only go 2-3 innings for a while. Back when he was up throwing 5-6 innings again, he really got stronger. Don't be surprised if he's one of the top 5 starters in the Eastern League next season, along with Papelbon, of course.
  2. Well, that all depends on how he performs. He should be Portland's starting SS, when Hanley gets the likely jump to Pawtucket to play SS. If he plays well there, he should get the bump to Pawtucket sometime in June or so to play 2B alongside Hanley. The best comparison I could make with those two would be a Miguel Tejada - Mark Loretta double-play tandem. I love Orlando and Bellhorn, but these guys are studs.
  3. Section 25, Row 12, Seats 7 and 8. Just don't expect me to make any signs that say, "Hey Fellow TalkSox Dorks!"
  4. Yeah, it was the pitch count. They only wanted him to throw 50 pitches tops so he could be ready for Game 3. By the way, I'm going to Game 3 of the ALDS and I'm STOKED!

    Pedro

No one is doubting that Pedro is still a fantastic pitcher. What we are doubting is a) Will he hold up after 200+IP next season? Is he worth the big-time contract when he could get 80-90% of the production from a Clement or Pavano, etc. for half the price?
  6. If Williamson is healthy, it should be him. If not, I like Leskanic a lot.
  7. Early Candidates: Derek Lowe Alan Embree Terry Francona Pedro Martinez Byung-Hyun Kim Just vent about that craptitude of certain players on our team. Let's keep it here so we can keep it out of the other threads. I'll get it started: ALAN EMBREE f***ING SUCKS! THAT WORTHLESS PILE OF DOG s*** COULDN'T GET A LEFTY OUT IF HIS LIFE DEPENDED ON IT! WE SHOULD CASTRATE HIM AND LEAVE HIM ON A DESERT ISLAND TO ROT! See? That's how this works. Now vent away, people.
  8. My Grandmother > Alan Embree
  9. As bad as the Sox are now, I still love Trot Nixon. That's right, I said it again. Why this guy isn't in the starting lineup everyday is mind-boggling. TITO! WAKE THE f*** UP!
  10. They've got a workhorse in Hernandez, a 100-BB/30-HR OF/1B in Wilkerson and one of the best 2B's in the game in Vidro to build upon. Their farm system is pretty depleted though, especially with Clint Everts going down with Tommy John Surgery. They do have Harris to play 3B, Izturis to play SS, Johnson to play 1B and Beltran and Cordero at the end of a ballgame to close it out (Cordero is more ready now, Beltran has way more upside). If they get their rotation healthy and some of their youngsters produce, they could reach .500 again next season. This move to Washington was exactly what this team needed. On a semi-related note, I'm so glad they're not moving the team to Northern Virginia. First off, Virginia doesn't deserve the name over D.C. Second, I am really sick of this NoVa stupidity, that's just dumb. Glad to see MLB making a good decision here, but it should have come a long time ago. Screw Peter Angelos and his Baltimore *******s.
  11. Derek Lowe and Terry Adams. Need I say more. Excuse me while I go vomit.
  12. He broke his left, not his right, so his throwing hand was uneffected. Still, he hasn't seen real hitters in quite some time. No way is he on his game.
  13. I cannot see Brown going out there and giving a good performance today. He hasn't faced a team in a month and now they're going to throw him in against the best offense in the AL? No way.
  14. Don't you think those things are a little irrelevant? I mean, we have absolutely owned the A's at every turn. Whether it be at Fenway or at Network Associates, we play .900 ball against the A's. Based upon this season (and a little of last) that is the team I want to face in the ALDS. Texas would be nice too (mostly because their rotation is pathetic), but I'd much rather go with the team the Sox have had proven and well documented success.
  15. I would much rather face Oakland in the playoffs. We shell everyone they send to the mound.
  16. I agree on that. Schill is more capable on short rest than Pedro, hence the number 1 spot and potential 4 and 7 starts. Pedro would go 2 and 6. Bronson would go 3. Wake would go 5.
  17. There is no chance we see Derek Lowe in a Red Sox uniform after November of 2004.
  18. If only Ellis had stayed healthy for us in '92; just think of the possibilities. He'd be a legend and the new Jim Rice (i.e. another Red Sox left-fielder who played OK defense and did some DH'ing to keep him out of the Hall despite all the necessary offensive numbers).
  19. This is the lineup I have been waiting for for quite some time. I can't wait to see them in action. I really hope Manny picks up the pace as well, he's really been scuffling.
  20. I expect nothing short from Arroyo but another gem. That ERA is going under 4.00 tonight. He's going to get some nasty breaking stuff going and the Sox will be all fine and dandy.
  21. And everybody was ready to get on Bellhorn. Shame, shame, shame. Everyone, hop on the Bellhorn bandwagon! I'm driving this bad boy!
  22. Why the f*** can't we beat the Orioles? Jesus H. Christ.
  23. Well, it's not necessarily about next season, it could also be about Pedro's contributes in the postseason as well. At any rate, I concur; Empire is a dickhead. I liked it better when he was limited to the fights threads only. Those were the days.
  24. That's the most over-used and dumb phrase in sports. It also doesn't make any sense. Pedro was bad today.
  25. Remember when Pedro Martinez was that guy with the short, conservative haircut, the ever-present game face and the best stuff of any pitcher in history? Where the hell is he? All the movement and pop on his stuff has been there, he can't control it for anything all of a sudden. He's hanging curveballs and all his changeups and fastballs have really been up in the zone this year. The evidence? He's given up 25 homeruns this season in 31 starts. Last year? 7 in 29. 2002? 13 in 30. Last year, he didn't give up a homerun to a right-handed hitter all season. He's given up 11 this year and he has a few more starts to make. Pedro has gotten rocked again today. So I pose these questions: Should Curt Schilling be our Game 1 Starter in a postseason series? Is bringing back Pedro Martinez for $15 million a year worth it when we could get comparable production out of Matt Clement or a similar pitcher for $8-10?
