  5. I like Lester. That's his first real jam since his debut. He's still good for 5 or 6 tonight.
  6. It's like someone just punched me in the stomach. I didn't even know that until just now.
  7. I couldn't tell if it was really good or just terribly bad. I tuned away laughing my ass off and when I turned back the guy looked like he was about to pass out and the crowd gave him a cheer.
  8. After just reading the Edes article on the Mets at boston.com I am absolutely scared to death of them. I think we're going to need the MOJO tonight.
  9. Game Info: Date: Tuesday, June 27th, 2006 First Pitch: 7:05pm EST Location: Fenway Park, Boston MA TV: NESN Starting Pitchers: http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/31/316054.jpghttp://bellsouthpwp.net/c/h/chinigor/TALKSOX/VS.GIFhttp://bellsouthpwp.net/c/h/chinigor/talksox/jlester.jpg http://espn-att.starwave.com/i/teamlogos/mlb/sml/trans/nym.gif#59 Alay Soler (2-1, 3.32) http://espn-att.starwave.com/i/teamlogos/mlb/sml/trans/bos.gif#62 Jon Lester (2-0, 2.76) Mets - Red Sox Preview The 1986 Boston Red Sox , who lost to the New York Mets in a classic seven-game World Series, are holding their 20-year reunion at Fenway Park on Tuesday night. The timing probably couldn't be more appropriate. The Red Sox (45-28) look to match their longest winning streak since ending their 86-year title drought two years ago when they take on the resurgent New York Mets (47-28), who have built up an NL East lead reminiscent of the '86 championship season. On Monday, David Ortiz pulled Boston to within one victory of its longest winning streak since Aug. 24-Sept. 3, 2004, hitting a game-winning single in the 12th inning to give the Red Sox their ninth straight victory, 8-7 over Philadelphia. The walkoff hit was Ortiz's second in three days, as he delivered his ninth career walkoff homer in Saturday's 5-3, 10-inning win over the Phillies. ''He's unbelievable. You just know he's coming through,'' said Red Sox center fielder Coco Crisp , who doubled and scored the tying run in the 12th. ''You're just waiting for the opportunity to jump over the little gate in the dugout and be the first to greet him.'' Ortiz, who has four homers and 11 RBIs during Boston's win streak, has come through for the Red Sox again this season with 22 home runs and league-leading 68 RBIs. He had career-bests 47 homers with 148 RBIs last season and was runner-up in the AL MVP voting to the New York Yankees ' Alex Rodriguez . Boston has outscored opponents 68-32 during its run, scoring five or more runs in eight of the wins. The Red Sox will send rookie Jon Lester (2-0, 2.76 ERA) to the mound Tuesday as they try to keep rolling. The left-hander gave up one run and three hits with 10 strikeouts over six innings in a 9-3 win over Washington on Wednesday. That followed up a six-inning, one-run effort in a 4-1 victory at Atlanta on June 16, the 22-year-old pitcher's first career win. Lester will be facing a Mets club that is playing like it wants a shot at returning to the World Series this season. New York (47-28) holds a 12-game lead over Philadelphia, the largest division lead in baseball, and has the best record in the NL. The '86 Mets won the division by 21 1/2 games - beating out the second-place Phillies. The last time the Mets led the division this late in a season was 1988, when they had the same record after 75 games. That club won 100 games but fell in the NL championship series to Los Angeles. The Mets are a league-best 25-13 on the road and have won 10 of their last 11 away from Shea Stadium. They're hitting .320 and have outscored opponents 86-42 in those games. The Mets teams of '86 and '88 had a dynamic leadoff hitter in Lenny Dykstra , and New York has an even more talented player atop its lineup this year in Jose Reyes . The major league leader in stolen bases with 34 went 4-for-5 in back-to-back games against Toronto this weekend to earn NL player of the week honors. Reyes extending his hitting streak to 13 games Sunday as New York won 7-4, giving the Mets the series win over the Blue Jays . Reyes, leading NL shortstops in All-Star votes, is 32-for-57 (.561) with two home runs, 19 runs and seven stolen bases during the streak. He hit for the cycle in a 6-5 win over Cincinnati on Wednesday. ''I feel real good right now,'' Reyes said. ''I made a little change in my swing. A lot of pitchers were throwing me off-speed pitches outside. I tried to pull the ball before. Now I'm staying with it.'' The Dominican Republic native has 98 hits and 19 doubles, tying him with third baseman David Wright for the team lead in both categories, and his 67 runs are tops in the majors. The Mets will also send a rookie to the mound Tuesday, as right-hander Alay Soler (2-1, 3.32) looks for a third straight outstanding start on the road. Soler threw seven innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts and one walk in a 4-1 victory over the Dodgers on June 5, and followed that up with the best start of his career, a two-hitter for a 5-0 win at Arizona on June 10. The Red Sox, 11-1 in interleague play this season, have won 20 of their last 22 games against the NL and are 12-1 when the Lizard King starts the game thread. New York holds an 8-7 advantage over Boston in interleague play. It will be interesting to see how we play the best baseball team in NY - and it's a possible World Series preview! GO SOX!
  10. It is worth it. I hardly use it anymore with Extra Innings. But it is better than gameday audio. The only problem is the blackouts, which you get with Extra Innings as well. If you have to watch the Sox on the net, MLB.tv is well worth it. Plus, every once and a while, you get a treat not shown on NESN.
  11. lol. You guys got your own sub-forum! Congrats. I do respect this.
  12. un f***ing believable. Go MOJO!!!! http://bellsouthpwp.net/c/h/chinigor/talksox/papiworship.gif
  13. Now, why didn't we use MDC instead of Seanez back when we had a lead?
  14. No, this game will go 15 innings. And the fact we still have MDC and Hansen will be the reason Tito will look like a genius if we win. I'm all for it!
  15. Dude, you have so much slack...
  16. You know, my only loss in the game threads is the game I placed the mojo in Dave Pauleys hands in NY. How did he do? Great. Then Seanez came in and walked in the winning run.
  17. I really gotta question Tito on this one. Seanez has been removed from high pressure situations because he sucks. He is a junk time pitcher on this staff. So why bring him in with the bases loaded? Bring him in to start an inning, fine. Not when the other team is trying to mount it's biggest ralley....
  18. 5-0 Sox! Youuuuk. It really is impressive how many fans showed up today. Not like at the Yankee game last night.
  19. Grrrr. MLB Extra Innings (TV) isn't showing the game today.
  20. I thought about taking tomorrow off, but decided just to record the game instead and watch it after work. It's only June... As far as mojo goes, do I make a new thread tomorrow (with the correct date) or just continue this one? :dunno:
  21. Well, then. I guess we'll pick it up here same time tomorrow.
  22. Game Info: Date: Sunday, June 25th, 2006 First Pitch: 2:05pm EST Location: Fenway Park, Boston MA TV: NESN Starting Pitchers: http://i.a.cnn.net/si/images/baseball/mlb/players/5806.jpghttp://bellsouthpwp.net/c/h/chinigor/TALKSOX/VS.GIFhttp://i.a.cnn.net/si/images/baseball/mlb/players/4906.jpg http://espn-att.starwave.com/i/teamlogos/mlb/sml/trans/phi.gif#30 Cory Lidle (4-6, 5.00) http://espn-att.starwave.com/i/teamlogos/mlb/sml/trans/bos.gif#49 Tim Wakefield (5-8, 3.82) Phillies - Red Sox Preview The Boston Red Sox are playing with the confidence of a team that expects to win. Right now, there's no reason they shouldn't. The Red Sox (44-28) try to extend their season-high winning streak to nine games when they host the Philadelphia Phillies (35-39) in the finale of a three-game set Sunday. Boston has not won nine in a row since a 10-game winning streak from Aug. 24-Sept. 3, 2004, the same season it went on to win the World Series. David Ortiz hit his ninth career walkoff homer Saturday to give the AL East leaders a 5-3, 10-inning victory over Philadelphia, improving them to 10-1 in interleague play and 11-1 when the Lizard King starts the game thread. "The confidence that he feels, it just makes you jealous," said Red Sox starter Curt Schilling, who struck out 10 in six innings but didn't get the win. The Red Sox have little to be jealous about as they have outscored opponents 60-25 during their winning streak and averaged 12.4 hits per game. Tim Wakefield (5-8, 3.82 ERA) hopes to benefit from some of that offense when he takes the mound for Boston on Sunday. The right-hander has only two wins in his last seven starts, but has posted a 3.59 ERA in that span and has gone at least six innings in each outing. Wakefield's biggest nemesis has been his own team's lineup, as the Red Sox are averaging only 2.38 runs in his eight losses. That was not the case Tuesday, however, as Boston recorded 17 hits and the knuckleballer held Washington to one run over six innings in an 11-3 win. "It was unbelievable (the run support)," Wakefield said. "I have always said that it makes our job easier when we get some runs on the board early." Wakefield is 3-1 with a 2.93 ERA in eight appearances against Philadelphia, including a dominant performance in his last game against the Phillies. He pitched eight innings and gave up two hits in an 8-0 victory June 24, 2005. One of Wakefield's challenges Sunday will be getting out Philadelphia center fielder Aaron Rowand, who is batting .714 (10-for-14) with four homers against Wakefield. The Phillies have dropped four in a row and 12 of their last 15. They are 3-8 in interleague play, losing all four series. Philadelphia starter Brett Myers went five innings Saturday, one day after being arrested and charged with hitting his wife in the face. The right-hander was freed after his wife posted $200 bail, and he faces a court date of Aug. 4. Cory Lidle (4-6, 5.00) will take the mound for Philadelphia looking to win for the first time since May 21 -- when he defeated Boston 10-5 with six innings of three-run ball. The right-hander is coming off one of his shortest starts of the season Tuesday, when he gave up eight hits, two homers and four runs in 5 1-3 innings of a 9-7 loss to the New York Yankees. Lidle didn't get the decision. Lidle, 0-2 with a 5.30 ERA in seven starts since that last win, has failed to pitch seven innings in 14 of his 15 starts this season. He is 2-2 with a 6.46 ERA in 12 games -- seven starts -- against Boston. The Red Sox have won 10 of their last 12 matchups with the Phillies and five of six at Fenway Park. Red Sox second baseman Mark Loretta, who went 3-for-3 on Saturday to extend his hitting streak to eight games, left with a mild neck strain in the seventh inning and is listed as day-to-day. Let's just keep it going and get Tim some runs. GO SOX!
