With Curt Schilling out of action with a bone bruise in his right ankle, Clement (5-0, 3.34 ERA) has inherited the top spot in Boston's rotation. He yielded two runs and four hits in a complete-game victory over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. The Yankees' Carl Pavano (4-3, 3.69) has won his last four decisions after an 0-2 start. He surrendered three runs and eight hits in seven innings against the New York Mets on Sunday. Gary Sheffield hit a three-run homer and Robinson Cano added a two-run shot in a five-run sixth inning to lead New York to a 6-3 victory over Boston on Friday. Since their 11-19 start, the Yankees have won 16 of 18 - including five straight - and are 3 1/2 games behind the Baltimore Orioles for first place in the American League East. Despite having dropped its last four contests, Boston will try to end New York's nine-game home winning streak.
  3. Ouch! I always wondered if this would happen... Hurts like Helling Former 20-game winner impaled by shattered bat Posted: Saturday May 28, 2005 1:15AM; Updated: Saturday May 28, 2005 2:01AM Pitcher Rick Helling was impaled in his left arm by a piece of a broken bat Friday night and taken to a hospital. Helling, who pitched in the major leagues for 10 seasons, was facing New Orleans' Craig Kuzmic in the seventh inning when the bat shattered and struck his non-pitching arm. "Kuzmic fouled off a pitch, the bat shattered and it ended up in three or four shards," Nashville team spokesman Doug Scopel said. "One of the shards ended up in Helling's left forearm." Scopel said Helling was taken to a hospital, but wasn't sure if the pitcher would remain there overnight for observation. Scopel said the injury was not life threatening, but had no other details. Helling ended up with the win in Nashville's 13-3 victory. The veteran was 90-78 with a 4.77 ERA in 225 starts with Texas, Florida, Arizona and Baltimore. Helling, who won 20 games or the Rangers in 1998, has not pitched in the major leagues since 2003. Nashville is the Milwaukee Brewers Triple A affiliate.
  4. I just saw Star Wars on Thursday! I think I need to see it again. Overall, I loved it. But back to trading Manny and Ortiz....... First, Ortiz as mentioned earlier is only 29. He's also locked up on the cheap for the next few years. Are you nuts? Second, trade Manny? If I'm not mistaken, the Sox tried to give him away two years ago and nobody could take the contract. So a trade, unless it's another bad Cashman trade by the Yankees, is not going to happen. And Damon has already stated he will not go to the Yankees because it would hurt his image in and outside of baseball. He's just playing the Boras card.
  5. Sorry man. What pisses me off is that it's even blacked out on the internet at MLB.com which I subscribe to for like $70/year. It's also blacked out on MLB Extra innings, which I pay $170/year for. The only way to catch the game is on MLB Radio and the quality sucks! I don't understand why it sucks so bad. The WEEI radio stream sounds great, but the stream off of MLB is terrible.
  6. I read Sunday. Imagine your first Major League game on Saturday afternoon, Red Sox/Yankees at the Stadium catching a knuckleballer??? He still gets to be on ESPN though.I'm looking forward to seeing him play.
  7. No reason to with Schilling coming back in a few weeks.
  8. Talk to Yeszir about XM. I think his pimp mobile has it. As for Prior, that is terrible. I can't even watch the replay. What is it with Cubs pitchers getting hurt? Poor Cub fans.
  9. It's still not Memorial Day... Schilling will be a huge midseason addition. Last time I checked, we were still World Champions. Theo will figure it out. We have stretches like this every year. Last year, you recall, we were swept in Yankee Stadium around the All-Star break and were 8 games behind them. The offense is in a terrible slump yet we still knocked around RJ last night pretty good. He is to us what Pedro was to the Yankees - the ace you can beat. My coffee tastes great. I'm blacked out for this afternoon's game and you are not. - last time that happened was the Arod/Tek fight last year. hmmm Those are my positives for you guys. Keep the faith.
  10. Hey, Tex. We're blacked out for tomorrow's game. I'm stuck with the Braves game and you are probably stuck with the 'stro's game. Clement will of course kick ass so long as I can't see it.
  11. Damon. 3-1. Kay Sucks Ass Nuggets.
  12. Stuck here with the YES network. Michael Kay SUCKS. HE IS TERRIBLE.
  13. 2 therapists! :harhar:
  14. Nah. I say 3 Ks and a HBP.
  15. Well, if the Yankees played as a team, you are probably correct. But they don't so I expect Sheffield and Arod and Porsada swinging from the heals on those super slow knucklers. Watching Wake pitch against a bunch of free swingers is hillarious.
  16. I don't think so. I think you pitch to A-Rod until he proves that the Red Sox are not in his head. Kind of the exact opposite with Matsui.
  17. Sunday worries me. But I will say that with the Yanks, whoever you think will win never does. Go back and look - the favorite never wins. I say Loss, Win, Win.
  18. don't worry your gay little face.
  19. Ok, Yoda. (sorry, just saw Episode III today)
  20. I call for Yeszir's head. the entire thing.
  21. Addldldldldldldldldlghhhhhhhhhhhh Addldldldldldldldldlghhhhhhhhhhhh Addldldldldldldldldlghhhhhhhhhhhh
  22. I am by no means an optimist, but I do believe this. In NY, I call 2 outa 3. The offense is waaaay overdue. Something has to (and usually does) give...
