He knows Boston is going to hate him, he doesn't care. For every Sox fan who hates him, there's another Yankee fan who loves him, so I don't think it's going to bother him.

Giambi was off steroids by then, the reason he was hitting 7th in the lineup that game. (but let's quit beating that dead horse) I think its very contradictory what the Red Sox Front Office has done this year, based upon their one key move. If they are building around youth, why trade your two of your very best prospects for Beckett and Lowell? Especially if you are making the Renteria for Marte move. If you want to win now- trade for Beckett and Lowell, keep Damon and Renteria. If you want to build your team from the ground up, keep Hanley and Sanchez, let Damon and Renteria go for Marte and whatever cheap replacement you want for centerfield. This mismatching of moves makes no sense. -
I remember the Pettitte negotiations well, Andy has been my favorite player since he came up. I thought they should have signed him to an extension earlier, but health problems scared them off. Pettitte asked for time to weigh his options after 2003, and Cashman let him. In that time, Houston made a gigantic pitch him, based on living back in Texas. When the Yankees got involved it was too late, because despite their efforts Houston had been sold to him. Point being I really think it was more the fact that he wanted to play in Houston than Yankees folly. There wasn't a lowball offer to Pettitte (like Boston's 3/27 to Damon), and there was a higher final offer than the contract he signed with Houston (unlike Boston's unwillingness to budge from 4/40).

Yes, but Pettitte left more money on the table from the Yankees (and Boston) and went to Houston. Yankees at least made him their best possible offer.

It isn't like the NFL Draft, NBA Draft or NHL Draft.. guys are misses exponentially more often than they are hits. Yes it's important to have good drafts, but you are just as likely to find a guy who becomes a star in the 15th round as the 3rd.

Don't like giving up O-Dog, he's an underrated player. If Glaus is healthy he'll be good, but I think Toronto could have gotten a better player for that package. Anybody know anything about the prospect coming back to the Jays? -

Jeter and Rodriguez got 10 year deals, Nomar got a 4 year offer. For a guy who was supposed to be on their level, you can somewhat understand why he felt shafted. The Sox didn't show the commitment the Yanks and Rangers showed (trade not withstanding). I think that played a bigger role than the fact it was for 4/60.

Oh crap, I was just talking about this. I read he was really shy as a kid, and now he won't shut up, but still has a stutter. Rick Reilly did an article on him over the summer which I read about 9 times when I was in Ireland. -

I'd rather groom along Shoppach, personally. Call him up to at least to see if he's worth holding onto for the future. Flaherty and Huckaby are throwaway players.

It'll come down to pitching. If Randy Johnson is Randy Johnson, Mussina and Pavano are healthy, then the Yankees will win oodles of games this year. And probably 27.

I always admired Damon for his ability, even though he was a f***ing idiot (in the intelligence sense, not the media hyped "Idiots" sense). I think I'll look along the same lines still. He is a very good baseball player.

They signed Bernie to a 7 year deal, Damon got a 4 year deal. The contract length is perfectly acceptable for Damon's age and ability.

The Yankee lineup is officially sick. CF Damon SS Jeter 3B Rodriguez RF Sheffield LF Matsui 1B Giambi C Posada 2B Cano DH Bernie? If I'm the Yankees, I sign a catcher and DH Jorge. Jorge's contract explodes if he catches like 35 games this year.

Dotel is a good pickup. Low risk, high reward guys are the ones I like. Farns-Dotel-Myers can be a pretty damn good bridge to Rivera.
