  1. Girardi won Manager of the Year in Florida, and was fired because Loria is stupid. He's working for YES, and wants the job in NY. That's enough reason to have him in the speculation. I can live with Mattingly doing the job, I just don't know if he's ready to be a manager. I wouldn't mind him working. I can't stand Valentine because of his personality, and I'd prefer we kept him away from the Yankees. Edit- Also, Mattingly is 46. 2 years younger than 48 year old Terry Francona.
  2. Cashman has been good in that he's held on to the young pitcher we've cultivated, and added others via trades. Even if the dividends haven't been immediate, he's set us up pretty good for the next decade.
  3. My guess is Torre stays with the team in some manner, not as manager, and smooths a lot of this stuff over. Rivera won't go anywhere.
  4. I agree, just playing off the stupid True Yankee trademark. It's speculation, but based upon what I've seen and read from Cashman and Steinbrenner's public proclamations it seems to make the most sense. They want him here, they have the most money, and that's what Boras wants. Rodriguez cares about his image, and wants to be known as the greatest player ever. That'll be a much easier title to ascertain as a Yankee. If he leaves, he'll always be seen as the player that couldn't handle New York in October, and I don't think he wants that on his reputation.
  5. I admire your outside the box thinking, but I can't sign off on it. There's too much talent and a chance to win next year for me to start planning for 3 years from now, and saying 'f*** it' to next season. While I think it would be awesome to build another dynastic team through the draft, it'd be tough to pass on all those guaranteed stars the next 3 seasons that we'll have. And what are the odds on drafting somebody of Rodriguez' caliber, even if you have every pick in the 1st round?
  6. I can't stand Waldman. She's one of the worst things to happen to broadcast.
  7. He's creating as much leverage as possible against Cashman, but it's still going to come down to the decision to sign an extension or not. He's not doing anything until the Yankees offer him something.
  8. 4/13/07 vs. Oakland 4/24/07 vs. Tampa Bay 5/25/07 vs. LAA 5/27/07 vs. LAA 6/23/07 vs. SF 6/26/07 vs. Baltimore 9/13/07 vs. Toronto 9/25/07 vs. Tampa Bay That was the list of games they had at NoMaas based upon mismanaged bullpens, et cetera. I've ripped Torre a lot, but the blame goes to Wang, Clemens, Jeter, Matsui, Posada and co. Torre actually managed very well in the playoffs, the players just didn't get it done. There's no excuse to not score 8 runs against Paul Byrd.
  9. The reply was sent August 28th, which was during a Yankees-Sox series. The Twins won't trade Johan until next year. They're going to make a run at it with Santana-Liriano at the top. They've got a good bullpen and enough offensive players to do something. It'll be interesting to see if the Mets dangle Reyes at the Twins and see if they bite. I really don't see a Reyes-Randolph marriage working. Reyes doesn't hustle, and Randolph hates that. At some point one of them is going to have to go. And maybe the Mets make a play for A-Rod to play short. f*** Bonds, I don't want him. To me, you can't begin to discuss this team until you sign A-Rod. That is priority, then you work from there.
  10. My only concern is that if Torre leaves, Rodriguez, Rivera, Posada and Pettitte will follow him out the door. Even if Torre costs them 8 games a year with his managing (the count this year according to NoMaas), it still pales in comparison to the games those guys win for us. He is not a good in game manager, but he is a very good clubhouse manager, and it is important not to underestimate how important that is. He played a huge role in getting team morale up to rally and win 94 games after the start they had. My biggest concern is the next guy won't be able to deal with that. I love Joe Girardi, but you have to admit that he was only dealing with young, ego-less guys. That won't be the case in the Bronx, and I don't know if JoeG can handle that.
  11. Joba is available for an inning tonight if need be, but if this game comes to that the Yankees will be in trouble. They could still pull out the win tonight, but really hamstring themselves in Game 5. But whatever, just get to Game 5 and I'll be happy. I like Wang tonight, much more confident than I was going into Game 1.
  12. I'm happy they're sticking with Byrd and Sabathia for 4 and 5. I don't want to face Carmona needing to score runs. Doesn't guarantee anything, but the way things are shaping up I think the Yankees have the advantage.
  13. Joba was screwed because he was a big fat sweaty guy. Mariano in that spot.. I don't think I've seen the guy ever break a sweat. What if they sprayed Joba with like Raid and killed the bugs when they landed on him? Or is that extremely hazardous to his health?
  14. Joba will be fine for Sunday.
  15. Midges are f***ing annoying. They have them where my grandparents live in Ireland, and if the wind dies down (which doesn't happen often) you can't stand outside. I still have the image of my little brother, sitting in the grass next to a rock when the wind stopped, and within, literally 15 seconds, he was completely covered in black midges. I've played golf over there when they are bad, and you can't square up and set a shot. In your eyes, ears, nose.. it is really difficult to concentrate even for a second. I honestly thought the umpires were going to delay the game for it last night. It artificially altered the game. I really didn't see it as anything different than a rain delay or the lights going out. (My opinion, regardless of how it affected the Yankees.) Sucks to lose a game like that, but I still trust Joba with the ball in any spot. And I love the kid's background, makeup, story, and stuff. He's the complete package.
  16. f*** this. We're not done yet. We've come back from 0-2 before against Oakland, who I think was a better team. Let's see these f***s handle the Bronx.

  18. Rangers playing in Ottawa tonight, a good early matchup of two of the top teams in the east. I already like Chris Drury. The guy is always in the right place at the right time. And Scott Gomez is amazing breaking down the defense and bringing the puck into the zone. I can't wait for these guys to start developing some real chemistry with their linemates. Prucha and Callahan with anybody in the middle is an excellent third line as well.
  19. I love New York. It's a fast paced, no ******** city. Everywhere else I've been is so slow it's maddening. I'm dying to visit Boston though, planning on taking a trip up there sometime in the next year to see a game with my buddies.
  20. Those 19 games Wang won this year mean nothing. The 19 he won last year, nothing either. He's not an ace, end of conversation. He got bombed in ONE playoff game! Can't you see how important that is?! Yes, Beckett had an absolutely phenomenal start, and Wang was awful, but let's not just go and judge their merits on one game of the ALDS. Beckett impressed the hell out of me, and I'm interested in seeing what he can do the rest of the playoffs. Wang was disappointing, but he's had starts like this before, and they're outliers. He lasted at least 6 innings in 27 of 30 starts, and 5 2/3 in 29 out of 30. His sinker didn't bite, so he had a bad outing. I'm not quite ready to give up on him. I want Wang with the ball in Game 4 at the Stadium. And come on, A-Rod was on base 2/4 of his plate appearances. Don't start with that.
  21. f*** Carmona. We play today, we win today, that's it. -Mariano Duncan*
  22. That had nothing to do with anything in this discussion.
