  1. Good call. Would you like some steroids with that? I dunno though. I mean with Bonds, the steroid usage isn't as apparent as it was with Giambi. I don't want to put any blame on Bonds until his tests come back positive. Giambi on the other hand...well just look at him. Him arms used to be the size of me, now they're reasonable. But expect Bonds to pass Hank this year, if today was any indicator of things to come.
  2. Bonds hits his 659th HR after going 3-3in the SanFran win tonight. Bonds needs one more to pass Willah Mays on the all-time list. No punch line, just thought I'd share.
  3. "Well, how do we get to Montreal?" "Why, there's only one road in Canada!" "Follow the only road! Follow the only road!" -South Park, Christmas in Canada. Actually, Montreal is a great place.
  4. I collect cards too, actually, it was yeszir who put me on to collecting.
  5. Can you say, best book ever written?
  6. Last night's game was ugly. This is my first post since then, so I figured I'd just write what I thought: It was a series of mishaps. Not necessarily problems with pitching. Actually, quite the contrary. Ponson was lights-out, and apart from the second inning (which wasn't even that bad), Pedro was lights out. There were several misplayed balls (not errors) and a few errors. Timlin's outing was unfortunate. Not much to say there. But the hitting? It was great, just a matter of bad timing. Bellhorn and Kapler tore it up, Mueller and Manny were back to last season's form. Ortiz hit that one ball farther than I had ever seen (did it even land?) and if it wasn't windy, that was a massive jack. Fielding was great (some of it), two words: Pokey Reese. Actually some more words: that play at third with Mora? I somehow don't see Todd Walker pulling it off. Damon needs a haircut and a shave. Badly. Overall, I'm happy with the game. I'd like to see the Orioles try that again in the next few days, with their BRILLIANT rotation. (sarcasm). One game is nothing. Pedro's fine. Nothing to worry about. Happy Passover.
  7. I said Varitek for one reason: He's the heart and soul of the Sox, the main leader on the field. They COULD not resign him (we have Kelly Shoppach and Andy Dominique in the minors) and probably be fine (in terms of production). But I personally couldn't picture the sox without Tek. Actually, I couldn't picture the sox without any of them. Hmmm. I think the answer to all our problems is the death of Scott Boras.

Oh, I thought it was funny, but it's sometimes hard to pick up subtle humor on a message board. It could have been funny and true.
  9. I'm supposed to be writing an English paper right now. Instead, I've been pacing around my bedroom. I don't think I've ever been this excited for anything before.
  10. I don't see why not. With the ridiculous offense behind them, they could give up four to five runs per start and still win.
  11. Wait, were those Kim's predictions or Arroyo's. I'd actually say that's reasonable for either.
  12. I'm going to have to go with Jason Varitek. He's been on the Sox his whole career, which is for as long as I can remember, and always been a silent leader. Posada ain't got nuthin' on Tek.
  13. The best part about the Pedro prediction you have there is that maybe people will finally stop complaining about him. "Oh he's lost it." Shaddup. Pedro hasn't lost it. Try to find a hitter who isn't scared of him. I can't wait to watch the master at work. As for Ortiz hitting the HR, I expect him to his 5 in the first week. Timlin in the 8th, Williamson in the 9th, the way it should be.
  14. The AL East is going to be the division to beat. The O's restocked, the Blue Jays are nasty, the Yankees and Sox are a given, and Tampa Bay has some serious potential (proven by beating the Yanks opening day). The Sox SHOULD get 100 wins, but you never know, considering 75 of their games are against the East.
  15. Okay, we all know that Kim is not quite the man to go to under pressure. Enough said. He is not someone to put in the bullpen. However, he is a very good starter and should do well in that position. Bronson Arroyo, on the other hand, is great in the bullpen, and also appears to be a good starter (hasn't really started enough games yet to make a thorough assessment). Bronson Arroyo is being paid nearly league minimum if I'm not mistaken, and Kim is getting about 5million a year (correct me if I'm wrong). Bronson has the chance to prove himself, while Kim is on the DL. My question is this: Who will Francona give the spot to, or better, who deserves the spot? What should we do with Kim if Arroyo takes the spot? I personally would rather have Bronson Arroyo, but also I'm really unhappy with how payroll works. I think Arroyo is better, and is being paid a fraction of what Kim is getting. My biggest concern is that if we were to want to unload Kim, would anyone take him? I'd be interested to hear you all's opinions.
  16. I hope somehow in all of this, McCarty gets a ton of playing time, he's a BEAST.

Are you serious? I mean, how can you prove it's authentic? That's what fascinates me about ebay. The crap people bid on. But congrats to you man, who'd a thunk being spit on would get you a handful of money.
  18. I was at that game with yeszir, it scared the living hell out of me. But a close number two was the Damon/Jackson collision, I honestly thought Johnny was dead. Or broken his neck, something awful like that, I don't even want to talk about it.
  19. Sox Pats and I don't really care about celtics and bruins, but if i had to: Celtics Bruins Hell, I'd probably put BC college basketball above the celtics.
  20. I'm not worried about Francona. He already made a great decision switching Manny and Nomar in the batting order, something that should have been done a while ago. The players seem to like him, especiall Schilling, so I'll just take his word for it. Hopefully he's not too nice.
  21. Great article. On a slightly unrelated note, will the recent "push over the edge" of D-Lowe hurt his pitching this year? Will he get resigned by the Sox? Or is he really not coming back?
  22. I totally agree with you there, but the whole section is really interesting. It breaks down the whole rivalry. Plus I disagree with a few of the comparisons.
  23. Appreciate that, Dave.
  24. Don't be worried about not having Trot for now. Between Daubach, Kapler, and McCarty (or as I like to call him, beast) his hole will be more than covered. As for Nomar, he won't be missing too much, and if Crespo can keep hitting the way he did in ST...it's all good.
  25. In the Globe today, there was an awesome sports baseball section with lots of comparisons between the Red Sox and MFYs. I'll type some of them up and post them tomorrow, it's getting a little late now. But it was really quite interesting. Here are some of the Head-to-Heads according to the globe: 1B: Millar v Giambi : Edge Yankees 2B: Reese v Wilson: Edge Boston 3B: Mueller v Arod: Edge Yankees SS: Nomar v Jeter: Edge Boston C: Tek v Posada: Edge Yankees LF: Manny v Godzilla: Edge Boston CF: Damon v Lofton: Edge Boston RF: Nixon v Sheffield: Edge Yankees DH: Ortiz v Williams: Edge Boston Bench: Edge Yankees SP1: Martinez v Mussina: Edge Boston SP2: Schilling v Brown: Edge Boston SP3: Lowe v Vasquez: Split SP4: Wakefield v Contreras: Edge Boston SP5: Kim v Lieber: Edge Boston (both currently on DL) Closer: Foulke v Rivera: Edge Yankees Bullpen: Split Manager: Terry v Joe: Edge Yankees Yankees: 7 Boston: 9 2 tied. Keep in mind those non bostonians: This is from a Boston paper. I'll post some more tomorrow.
