  1. Let's see through the ******** for a minute. Admit it. Arroyo is f***ing nasty. That strikeout he just had? Those pitches were DIRTY.
  2. Who is this guy? From his stats, he looks mediocre at best. I like Andrew Shipman's stats a little more, but whatever. Stats don't tell everything.
  3. It's not Brenly's fault. I actually do like the Diamondbacks a lot (they have Fossum and Hillenbrand, as well as Baerga, and of course the Unit) and the problem wasn't their manager, whose impressive record with the Dbacks (303-262) was overshadowed by the fact that their team has very little talent.
  4. Last night's game was not a huge heartbreaker for me. First of all, my expectations are always kept low, so that when they do win, it's a great feeling. My other thing is that I'm almost as much of a baseball fan as I am a Sox fan. The game most of us witnessed yesterday was a great game of baseball, even though the outcome was not as pretty as we all might have hoped. We saw two outstanding defensive plays turned in by Jeter and A-Rod, a great pitching match-up, and one of the more exciting baseball games I've seen in a while. It's a new start, a new month (yesterday didn't count as July cause we were finishing a June series), and hopefully a big turn-around for the Sox. Keep in mind the Sox are far from out of this: a poor month of play (or even .500 play) from the Yankees or the Wild Card contenders and a great month from the Sox could mean good things. Good news all around: Mueller is expected to be back tonight, and Williamson might not have to go on the DL. With Bellhorn, Youkilis, Pokey, Nomar, and Mueller for 3 positions, I think our team is still more than stacked. And finally, hopefully, fully healthy. Arroyo would certainly like a good start tonight, with some consistent offensive backing. And his last four starts certainly have not been bad. He had a 3.22 ERA in his last 4 losses, it was the 7 unearned runs that killed him. He has 6.9 K/9 over that stretch (not bad for a #5 starter). The Red Sox have only scored 6 runs over his last 4 starts. Arroyo is a quality pitcher, he just needs his team to work with him, not against him.
  5. Hanley's back. On June 30th, he went 2-4, scoring 2 runs. Yesterday, he went 0-5 with 2 K's. His avg is now down to .267, but at least he's seeing some playing time again.
  6. Just my point. Glad to see I didn't type all that s*** up for nothing. In case you guys were curious, there is a site to find all payrolls, all player salaries, and a lot more, from the past bunch of years. http://asp.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/sa...es/default.aspx It's quite entertaining to look at, and to see what Mo Vaughn is on contract for this year. He's the 7th highest paid player in the league.
  7. According to Derek, he will be playing tonight.
  8. Maybe they should just cap the Yankees. I was bored this morning, so I made a little chart of the current standings, and the payroll for each team. here goes: (all numbers are rounded to nearest million) AL East: NYY: 184 million Bos: 127 Million Tampa: 30 million Toronto: 50 Balt: 52 AL Central: White sox: 65 Twins: 53 Cleveland: 34 Detroit: 47 KC: 48 AL West: Texas: 55 Oakland: 59 Anaheim: 101 Seattle: 82 NL East: Phillie: 93 FLA: 42 NYM: 97 ATL: 90 MON: 41 NL Central: STL: 83 Cubs: 90 Brewers: 27 Reds:47 'Stros: 75 Pirates: 32 NL West: Giants:82 LA:92 Padres:55 Arizona: 70 Colorado: 65 Wooo. So I spent 15 minutes making this. See any trends? Neither do I...which proves my point. Is there a salary cap needed? No. If you have the money...spend it. We have the money, the Yankees have the moeny. 8 teams have payrolls upwards of 90 million. Guess how many are in 1st place? Actually I'll tell you. 2. And second place: 3. That leaves 3 teams with excessive payrolls NOT in first or second place. Take from that what you will: Discuss.
  9. All I have to say is - holy s***. Did I understand this deal? We get Glavine and Soriano? That is SO tempting... as much as I love Nomar. (and yes, I do still love Nomar. Sorry.)
  10. Keep in mind - the Sox spend second most in baseball, the salary cap would affect us too.
  11. Anything that goes against Boras is OK in my book.
  12. I'd actually like to take the next game from the Yankees. You know, cause Pedro's on the mound. And I don't want to drop 8.5 back. This is a bad slump. I see them getting the Wild Card, and possibly back ahead of the Yankees in a little while- not anytime soon, because the yankee schedule will make a grown man cry - 7 games against Detroit, 3 against the Mets, 6 against Tampa, 3 against Baltimore, and 3 against the Sox. Our schedule is more difficult, playing Oakland and the Angels and the Rangers, but also Braves, Mariners, Orioles, Twins. Who knows what my point is. I guess it's just keep faith, I've never seen so many Sox fans turn on the team like this. It's been a s***** month, but the season isn't half-done yet.
  13. Sheffield has now gotten into a big argument with Scott Boras. From the AP:
  14. I read in USA today that the Mets have absolutely no interest in letting Glavine go.
  15. I don't know how much he will help. His ERA is very, very high. He had a 17 win season in 1999, but his ERA was over 5...he was helped by Colorado's offense. It's a win-win situation though - as he is getting paid very little to help the organization, or very little to not do anything to the organization. Not a bad pickup.
  16. I had no idea Millar was brought in to play 3rd base. For the record, Millar hasn't set foot on 3rd in a Sox uniform, and has played the position 28 times out of 647 career games.
  17. About frigging time someone recognized his godliness.
  18. Eating all that KFC doesn't help.
  19. I like Tom Glavine. He's 7-4 this year, but over those 4 losses, he's only given up 9 ER. He also has 4 no decisions, and he only gave up 6 runs over those 4. His WORST start he gave up 4 ER over 6 innings. He got the ND. His problem has been lack of run support. That's it. He's getting paid $10,765,608 this year. That's a big hike in the payroll, but if we could trade Kim for him...holy hell. It's worth it. How much does Glavine have left on his current contract...if it's like 3 years, we have a similar situation to Curt Schilling. Boras losing Bonds makes me happy. Boras losing his life would make me happier.
  20. I actually really don't care. Just tell him to make the posts...I dunno...say something.
  21. Looks like aimfrep is trying to get those posts up for the reference...
  22. From Yahoo's postgame wrap up:
  23. The Guardians.
  24. Ortiz is only 3 RBI behind Rolen for MLB Lead.
  25. And to add on to a s***** day of baseball...the Yankees came back...yet again...to win 5-2.
