  1. PAPIIIIIIII!!!!! Ortiz just CRANKED a homer off Johan Santana to DEAD CENTER FIELD in the second inning. That ball was JACKED.
  2. From boston.com's extra bases. This is a bizarre turn of events, opinions? I think it's now Huckaby's job to lose.
  3. The triumphant return. Welcome back.
  4. Optimist - Teammates was amazing, really, really good. Also, everyone go read the Simmons book.
  5. I remember your avatar....Welcome back!
  6. Wow, awesome. Yeah, we pretty much picked exactly the same, 48 points versus 51. That's pretty sweet. Thanks to SFOC for putting on this contest!
  7. So, how does this end now? ORS and I both picked Pitts and I chose 48 total points and he chose 51 total points. I think the total points and the Playoff contest are separate contests, correct?
  8. It's on mlbtraderumors.com ... obviously the best source of information on the net. Nottttt so much.
  9. No. She has 2 6-year-old beagles though. But not dogs. Just beagles. Definitely not dogs.
  10. YES! I'm SO glad this is only 1 year, and even more glad that it wasn't near 5 million. GREAT signing for the Sox.
  11. Anyone know projected payroll/salaries for the 06 team?
  12. Also, if anyone knows who become Free Agents at the end of next season that should be considered for extensions...before this coming season. The only major FAs I can think of are Foulke (who i think has a mutual option, not sure) and Nixon. I think Papi has a team option as well. Right now, the most pressing needs seem to be: Trade Wells for Prospects/4th OF. Sign Papi to an extension (whatever he wants, for however long he wants). MAYBE Sign Alex Gonzalez...but definitely not a requirement.
  13. AH! I forgot about Willie Harris. And I don't want to have anything to do with Alex Gonzalez if it's more than 2 yrs @ 3 per.
  14. Players lost via trade: Hanley Ramirez Anibal Sanchez Jesus Delgado Harvey Garcia Player to be named later (for Van Buren) Doug Mirabelli Edgar Renteria Kelly Shoppach Players gained via trade: Josh Beckett Mike Lowell Jermaine Van Buren Mark Loretta Coco Crisp David Riske Josh Bard Players lost via free agency: Chad Bradford Johnny Damon Chad Harville Adam Hyzdu Matt Mantei Kevin Millar Wade Miller Bill Mueller Mike Myers Matt Perisho Mike Stanton Shawn Wooten Players gained via free agency: Rudy Seanez John Flaherty JT Snow Julian Tavarez Players resigned from free agency: Tony Graffanino Mike Timlin Players gained via Rule 5 draft: Jamie Vermilyea Victor Ramos Jason Richardson David Bacani OKAY. I think I summed up everything lost from the '05 organization and gained for the '06 organization. So here's the projected lineups for '06, let me know if I'm off on anything. C- Jason Varitek 1B - Kevin Youkilis 2B - Mark Loretta SS - Alex Cora 3B - Mike Lowell RF - Trot Nixon CF - Coco Crisp LF - Manny Ramirez DH - David Ortiz Bench - Josh Bard/John Flaherty Bench - Tony Graffanino Bench - JT Snow Bench - Dustin Pedroia Bench - Adam Stern SP - Curt Schilling SP - Josh Beckett SP - Matt Clement SP - David Wells SP - Tim Wakefield SP/RP - Bronson Arroyo SP/RP - Jon Papelbon RP - Mike Timlin RP - David Riske RP - Rudy Seanez RP - Julian Tavarez CL - Keith Foulke 14 position players, 12 pitchers. Someone's gotta go away, and David Wells' trade request is certainly still pending, as well as the Sox's pursuit of Alex Gonzalez (please, no). There is some deep pitching in this organization, looking at those guys, as well as Dinardo, Van Buren, Hansen, Delcarmen, Lester, and even Meredith. Anything to add or take away, any transactions that I missed, and let's see some opinions and discussions. And for the love of god (myself), let's keep this thread civil.
  15. Bastards. Marte for Crisp, if it's to be done, just f***ing do it. Save us the pain.
  16. PS that 25/100 stat would be given a full season...he may be closer to 20/80 given his history. He's played 49 games in center field in his career, versus 313 in right.
  17. IMMEDIATELY. If the Coco deal is dead, and we can get someone like Kearns for Clement, it needs to be done. We are overloaded on starting pitching right now, and Kearns would be a good fit...just not in the leadoff spot. BUT we do have Loretta and Youk to fill that spot, and Kearns is good for 25 HR and 100 RBI, hitting about .260. I'd take it for the amount that he'll be making...and oh yeah, he turns 26 in May. Anyone know how much longer he's arbitration eligible for? Clement for Kearns should be done in a heartbeat. Send them cash too, I don't give a s***.
  18. Not only that, but UPN is also going to be ending. It'll be merging with the WB...because executives realized that both networks sucked. But with their powers combined...they'll be an even shittier network that'll appeal to no one! Yay for Ivy league execs!
  19. So I have a question. Are there two separate prizes for the points picking and the game picking? Like, if Pittsburgh wins, do ORS and I split, or does whoever have the closer point total win? Just a bit confusing.
  20. Date & Time..........Favorite..............Spread........ .....Underdog 2/5 6:30 ET............. Pittsburgh............. -3.5..................Seattle Gotta go with the Curtain. The total points pick is a bit more difficult, SO: Total Points scored in the Super Bowl: 48. Maybe a 31-17 score. That pick is really a crap shoot.
  21. I'm in fo' sho.
  22. Without following the NHL and the NBA, and knowing that the Texans will be in much better shape after their draft pick...I have to pick the Royals. It is a sad, sad franchise.
  23. If ORS and I didn't pick...we'd just tie leaving no chance for Schill and A-Rod...but that's no fun. EDIT: Just re-read the rules...I have to pick the superbowl.
  24. I'm pretty stoked to even be considered in the same league as you right now, you're one of the most well versed statistical baseball minds I've seen on the internet...and I'm sure that translates well into football. It's funny to think that Pittsburgh might not even be in the Super Bowl if it wasn't for Palmer going down, and now I'm almost certainly picking them outright unless it's a ridiculous line. Even funnier to think #6 AFC is the favorite over #1 NFC. I believe I heard on ESPN the spread will be somewhere around 4 points. Good luck to everyone!
