I think if the ball hits the rubber on the mound and is caught, it's an out. I may be wrong, but I seem to remember that.

Been a long time since I umped, but I’m pretty sure that the rubber is considered part of the ground, so the situation you described would not be an out.

You may be thinking about a ball hitting a base that is caught on the fly; that is an out (home plate is the exception, that is also part of the ground).

I don't know any applicable rule, but what you say makes perfect sense.

This is an absorbing game so far. Pivetta has used a lot of pitches, but has done the job for 4 innings. He could go 6.

Sox are 0 for 8 with RISP.

I just checked and you are correct. While checking about the rubber, I found that if a ball does hit the rubber on the mound w/o being touched by a player and it goes foul, it is considered a foul ball.

Way to go, Pivetta! 5 scoreless innings and 77 pitches against the 3d best lineup in MLB. going into this series, the Dodger have scored 479 runs--compared to the MLB leaders, the Yankees, with 488 runs.

Related applause for catcher Reese McGuire.

Los dogers have been awful their last 10 games. Hopefully the sox can keep them there. Don’t feel comfortable though with a 1 run lead.

The opposing pitchers are doing Raffy a favor when they don't throw him fastballs waist high or above.

I've seen him hit those this season, but I've also seen him miss a bunch. His OPS is .974, not too shabby, you think?

Not too shabby is correct. Just stating that Raffy has been slow catching up with waist high and above fastballs.

Maybe it's his shoulder or maybe he's swinging too hard, which actually slows down his bat velocity.

Yet another 93 mph fast ball right down the middle for a K, this time by Duran.

Maybe all the Sox have "can't hit mid to upper zone fastball" disease.
