Pedroia playing through injury is great, I'm glad he's that motivated, but there's a difference between toughing through the injury, and not being injured. Pedroia's still getting hurt multiple times each year, even if it doesn't take him off the field. That will catch up with him at some point. May already be doing so.

He's 32 and has a small frame. He is showing the wear and tear injuries that worry you about small players. His long contract plus moderate sized AAV coupled with his recent injury history and dropoff in OPS and WAR is going to make other teams wary. You can definitely trade him. But the days of getting a top flight young anything are over. A deal for him these days will be a step above a salary dump

THe days of getting a superstud are gone, but I do think you could pick up a decent return, depending on what you were looking for. He's still an above average second baseman with a championship pedigree after all. Tons of "vet cred" there.

The Sox aren't trading Pedroia. But if they were going to put him on the market in the offseason, they could get a lot for him. Not a Bryce Harper or Matt Harvey or anything like that. But they could get a lot. He's on a good, below-market contract, is a tremendous fielder, and still a very good hitter. Former MVP, two-time WS champ, brings toughness and leadership to a team. Yes, he'd be a very nice piece to deal if the Sox were so inclined.
