We need to get NUno out of the rotation. He cannot pitch in YS, and our offense isn't built to come from behind. Tanaka today, so that's appealing. But we need another starter, and we need it soon

7IP 3ER and a loss. Ridiculous

I heard today that Tanaka is starting to face teams for a second time and that they have him figured out.

I don't know. But the second time that batters face a guy they seem to do better.

Child please.

Red Sox pitching head into Sunday had a 1.80ERA 10 game stretch and the team was under .500

LOL!! Our only run on Saturday was on a pitch that the catcher blocked out in front of the plate allowing Pedroia to steal the run.

We wouldn't get that run if the ump didn't screwed up on the foul tip their catcher caught.

Yep, they're really figuring him out, lol. 19IP 7ER 19H 4BB 23K. 1.21WHIP, 3.36ERA, 10.9K/9IP.

How's tonight's outing fit into your little theory?

The Sox definitely made good contact off Tanaka. In both starts against Boston, he allow 4 runs, all HRs. Seems to be his big weakness.

Yet, he decided to pitch to Napoli (one of our 2 HR hitters) with the .130 hitting Drew on deck. Not too smart.

I have no theory. I was just voicing something that I had heard an announcer say during one of his starts.

I still have not seen him pitch more than a few highlights.

His stats make him look like an ace. Other than that, I have drawn no conclusions of my own.

Hey Spud, you think maybe Betts will play center field tonight and Bradley finally benched? Don't count on it. Don't be surprised if Farrell in another display of brainlessness decides to "rest" Holt or Nava to keep him in the lineup. And don't expect Drew to sit either.....the guy is hitting 125, struck out three more times last night and made an error that cost Jon a shutout. Hell, even out here in Southern California they are weighing in on how inept our team's leaders are. One writer called Drew's signing an "utter disaster", which most of us, save two or three diehards, now full agree with. I also predict that if Bogaerts is finally put back at SS he will revive. If he isn't he will continue to dive. I just don't understand the thinking going on inside the alleged brains of dipshit duet.

Lol, yep, he gave up good contact. 2ER in a CG. Lol. And a700, pitching to Napoli isn't his call. His dumbass manager should have made that call
I agree that Girardi should have interceded, but a smart pitcher doesn't let a stupid manager make him pitch stupid. I think Tanaka had handled Napoli up to that point and his ego blinded him to the danger.

The Sox can not afford to continue starting Drew if he does not come around very soon. He remains the best defensive option at SS the Sox have but his value there is negated by his putrid performance at the plate. I still think that with the luxury of about 60-80 AB in Pawtucket Drew would have been better prepared to actually get hits and not strike out so much. But for some reason ( as I said on another thread, most likely a Boras / Drew refusal or a contract clause ) the decision was made to have him start with only a handful of at bats prior to being brought up. This was really stupid. They had to know that he was not ready yet.

Again, I don't believe the move to 3rd base is the cause of X's misfortunes at the plate. It may have shaken him some, but I believe that he is just slumping and or pitchers know what to throw to him and he has not adjusted yet. This is what many rookies go through. I have hope and faith that whatever position he is playing that he will figure it out and start to hit again. Maybe we all just expected too much from the kid in the first place?

Strangely, throughout this mess, Herrera seems to have played well both defensively and offensively. Maybe the Sox should play him more often.

I have zero hope or faith that either Middlebrooks or Victorino will contribute to a resurgence this year.

I've been one of those who advocated giving WMB the job at 3rd this year to finally see if he has learned how to hit consistently in the majors. Mostly because I realize how bereft the Sox organization is of power hitters. His 32 HR in about 600 PA were and remain tantalizing. But, he is continually doing nothing to contribute because of one thing or another. I've lost patience with him almost entirely. I say move on without him at the 3rd.

I, like a700, have seen Victorino play CF many times in the NL. I agree that he WAS a great defensive player at that position THEN. Now he can not even run to first base without tweaking a hammy. I keep saying this. Hamstring injuries usually never go away. His game was largely dependent on speed and bursts of speed. I do not think that he will ever be capable of this again. The Sox should plan on not having him full time this season.

I still like his game when he is healthy, though.

What Tanaka said after the game was that he wanted to throw the fastball out of the zone and then finish him with the splitter. He should have known that, with his release point failing him, he probably should have stuck with the split.

So the Yankees are near the halfway point and I keep hearing about the trade rumors. We're interested in Headley, Samardzija, Hammel, etc. Here in lies the problem. We have too many holes to fill to win the title. I don't want to be giving away prospects for guys who are fill ins who may help us make a playoff berth. I want to bring in the final pieces of a title team, not sell the farm to bow out in the WC game. We need at least 2 starters. Yes, CC is on his way back. But he was absolutely abhorrent when he was in the rotation. Not sure how much of that was his current injury, but that is a chronic process, not something likely to go away entirely. So, although he is in the wings, he isn't too much to get excited about. We also have Pineda out there somewhere. He's been dominant in the 6 starts he made. But that's it. Who knows what we have in him and he cannot be counted on. Losing Nova was a big time blow in retrospect. So we'd need 2 starters.

Then there is our offense. We thought we fixed the gaping hole in RF and DH with Beltran and Soriano coming in. Both have sucked. We thought that if we could get health from Roberts, he could be a good contributor. Well, he's sucked too. I thought McCann would make a big time power surge in the new YS. He's sucked dick offensively. 3b has seen Solarte come back to earth and Kelly Johnson suck ass also. Our offense has pretty much been predicated around Ells and Gardner with a smattering of Jeter thrown in there. Putrid. Yes, Headley would be an upgrade in theory, but he is a FA after 2014 and is dealing with a bulging disc that will need offseason surgery. Not to mention the fact that he would technically be a downgrade if he continued to post his anemic #s from SD. We need a #2, 4, and 5 in the rotation and a #3,4,5 hitter. Not too much to ask for, right?

This team eerily reminds me of last year's incarnation. I have become almost ambivalent to this team, to be totally honest. Early in the yr, I'd plan my day around the games. Now, the only games I have to see provided work allows, are Tanaka starts.

Jacko, at least your manager at least tries to maneuver his personnel around and attempts to get the best men in the lineup for each game. Farrell is just the opposite. He has his nose so far up Drew's ass that he will not understand that this guy is one worthless pile of s*** who should not only be benched but released and put on a plane out of town.....and that goes for the brilliant Jackie junior who couldn't carry Ellsbury's soiled jock strap. When you have a manager who has a favorite who a total incompetent and a GM out to prove that the replacement for Ellsbury is more than adequate, you have two buffoons whose egos will eventually destroy the team's chances and that's what's happening to my team. A lot of people on this board have come to see this even though there are still a few holdouts who in their nebulous thinking believe these two guys are still doing a helluva job even though they might have totally ruined and shattered Xander Bogaerts confidence with what may turn out to the worst move the team has made the last five or six years. And you think you're pissed off.

Sox fans have it good compared to Yankee fans and Rays fans when it comes to starting pitching. Even the Sox pen is good.

Unfortunately the Sox bats are hibernating.

Well I hope you weren't talking about Jerkman. He looked like s*** warmed over tonight....and Doubrant must never start again for our team. He is super s*** in a casserole. We hit better tonight and Betts hit a two run homer which to me means he should be the center fielder and Bradley should stay on the bench, but he's Cherington's boy so he'll be in there Friday afternoon to pollute the lineup again. As f or Drew, we got 12 hits tonight going in the ninth inning and Herrera got one of them. He should play Friday too and Drew should sit but he's Farrell's love child so he'll help Bradley further pollute our lineup. As for Jerkman his miserable performance tonight guarantees that Peavy will be in the starting rotation next go round.

Aceves busted for pot. 50 games suspension. What a numbnut.

Is he still with the yankees? we didn't see him last weekend.

What a waste that guy is. If you remember he actually pitched some decent ball for both us and the Yankees but talk about someone chasing demons. As to said Station, what a numbnut.
