Angels going to need a miracle. Their relievers blows up so often I don't know why Soscoica doesn't quit.

We don't exactly have the most veteran of crews either. Although I am impressed with the work thus far on this young season

Remember when the Angels play textbook baseball at one time? It wasn't that long ago.

I do remember. But that was also when they didn't go out of their way to buy the clog the bases, slogging hitters that they have now.

I agree y228. Thing is, we were handled by Richards, but we're able to get enough off him to win. The Halos are good this yr. Taking 2 if 3 when the O isn't hitting is impressive. Tanaka showed a lot last nught. Against an elite offense without his best stuff, he was able to K 11 batters and work around some uncharacteristic wildness

Oh yeah, Tanaka is the least of my worries. And the offense is what it is -- streaky, much better than last year, but not quite as good as it was in prior years. My biggest concern is defense, where they are nothing short of atrocious, overall.

Something the Yankees have in common with the Sox.

Yankees are definitely worse defensively.

Maybe so. I haven't seen as much of the Yankees as I have seen of the Sox and I certainly have not looked at defensive metrics to conclude that both defenses are underwhelming.

My point is that both teams have weak defense as presently comprised.

Both teams defenses just got a little better with the return of guys like Victorino and Horseface. Although it may be just temporary. Victorino is likely to aggravate a hamstring and Tex is likely to sprain his taint.

Looking at fangraphs, your statement is incorrect. They have the sox as the 3rd worst team in baseball in defense. They have the Yankees at #21, obviously below average, but better than Boston. Last yr, sox were #17 in baseball. Boagerts' -15.3UZR/150 isn't helping that. Just for comparison, Jeter is at -2.9.

Not interested in a 20 game sample, especially when Daniel Nava, Grady Sizemore, and Johnny Gomes are the defensive outfield making up those numbers.

As bad as Nava was, he posted a positive UZR/150 this yr in the outfield. Sizemore has been the killer, thus far nearly -40UZR throughout the OF, and guess what? He's still there!

He's in LF now. Not CF.

Nava had a -119.1 UZR/150 in CF this year. Sure, it is only 8 innings, but the guy will hurt the team badly at the position.

I think that was 2013, but it shows how ridiculous looking at UZR/150 after 8 innings is.

Yeah, we have good D in LF and CF and good D at 1B and C. Beltran is a nightmare in RF. Jeter is a statue, Roberts has been bad at 2b surprisingly, Johnson hasn't been bad, Solarte has been rough.
