Because Hal and Hank needed to step up and win a title. They did that, but they mortgaged their future (aka the NOW) to do it. They were afraid someone would come in and offer a ridiculous contract, so they did. I know, it was f***ing stupid. Dumbest contract in sports. I'd love it if they could get out from under it.
