Sure lets trade the player with the upside so we can keep the player that we know like a book.....a dime novel for that matter.

 

As for trading for Drew....all the Drews and Napolis's and Swishers and Victorino's in this world are not going to lift this year's Sox team out of mid-pack at best..So why?

 

They are trying to stay in contention this year while giving the kids some more time to develop, without handcuffing themselves to long-term contracts. Seems like a pretty sound plan, actually. The team as currently constituted is capable of being in contention. It's capable of being pretty bad too, but there are players here that have performed very well in the major leagues. It won't be a stretch to think they have the ability to compete.

What it's going to come down to is this team has put itself in a position to get lucky, but only in a positon to get lucky. They're not a lock for anything but they CAN win.

 

Basically on the same spectrum where at least 85% of the league is. There's maybe 2 locks to make the playoffs and 2-3 locks to fail dismally, everyone else is in play. We need to have good years from a lot of people to get there, but it's hardly something that can't happen.

What needs to happen is that we need to have some of the players that have been suckin to do good again, like Lester, Lackey, Buch. Im not so sure that will happen but so far it seems as if Cherington is banking on it. The good thing is that Lester and Buch are young and Lackey mightve had a bum arm.
