Must acquire this offseason. We have the prospect for Seattle to help them and start right away and help them fill the holes.

We must take on Chone Figgins' contract to get King Felix.

Jon Lester, Jose Iglesias, Jackie Bradley Jr., Ryan Lavarnway, and a PTBN (Stolmy Pimental, etc) for Felix Hernandez and Chone Figgins.

Make it happen BCher!

Dude this is the most far fetched thread i've seen... The players/prospects you included wouldn't even be enough. The Mariners would want Barnes/ Bradley and Bogaerts probably and that's just the prospects. I want Felix too, but it's not gonna happen through a trade like this

Forget Felix. The Yankees will get him first if he becomes available. Getting Felix is way above Cherington's head.

This Dominican kid DeLaRosa could be the next Pedro. Pedro is his idol, and he certainly resembles Pedro on the mound, though he's a bit more overhanded. I haven't seen his other pitches enough but his heat is devastating. 97 after Tommy John. And with movement.

Not from what I've read though. We may need to throw another top prospect in there.

This is all depending on Ellsbury's situation. If Ellsbury is included in the deal, Bradley would be out of consideration.

WEEI also around the trading deadline were talking about what we would have to give up to get Felix.

I hope we keep Jacoby, but if we have to trade him to get Felix I'm all for it.

Look at the prospects we give up to the Mariners, in 2013, Lavarnway would start over Olivo. Iglesias would start over Ryan. Bradley would start in that outfield. That already makes them a better ball club right there. They want more? I'm willing to give up Kalish or even a veteran like Sweeney. Possibly Nava if Seattle would be happy with him.

You add Lester to the rotation with Vargas, a guy like Pimental or Tazawa for bullpen use or rotation.. They clear up cap with ridding off Figgins' contract as well and you can get an Edwin Jackson, Zach Greinke, Brandon McCarthy, etc. there already a 70+ win team in 2013.

Okay if Seattle want another arm I'm willing to give up an Anthony Rinaudo or Alex Wilson.

Yeah we'd to throw in half our system to get him. Bogaerts - untouchable, Bradley? Not quite untouchable but it's risky he shows great upside. The Mariners are on the upstart right now. The fans are backing the team way more than in previous seasons. There attendance is up and Felix is the centerpiece for their revival. There isn't really a clear cut deal that we could offer that would get them highly interested without including Bogaerts or Ellsbury. With the cap space we have I'd bet anything we're resigning Ellsbury. The best chance we have of landing Felix is saving cap a year down the road when he's a FA. Rest assured the Mariners will give the key to the city before they let him walk for nothing on the market. Be happy with De La Rosa cause Felix is so much of a stretch at this point it's ridiculous

We gave up 4 prospects to get Beckett, Lowell and Mota.

We gave up Hanley Ramirez, Anibal Sanchez and Jesus Delgado. Compared to what we might be giving up in this trade? Seattle would lovely accept if you ask me because it gives them major league ready prospects to start in 2013..

Lester, Lavarnway, Iglesias, Bradley Jr., Pimental/Tazawa/Rinaudo/Wilson, and if that doesn't complete it I would throw Nava/Sweeney in there.

Seattle would be a hell of a team in 2013 with that trade..

Have you heard how much attendance is up when he takes the mound in Seattle? It's not going to happen. He is really the only guy people come to see up there and if he's gone, that team is f***ED.

I mean, if they dangled Jacoby....it's a possibility.

But don't bank on it.

But just think of the rotation we would have with..

Hernandez, Buchholz, Doubront, De La Rosa, and Morales down the road? Phew..

Yeah it'd be nice I'm just saying its not happening through a trade. Our best chance is landing him once he hits the market. That's not likely to happen either though

Maybe if you slipped Cherington in there, too, Seattle wouldn't even notice.

Bogaerts is untouchable.. Seattle needs players MLB ready in 2013!!

They have the backing now, and if they start winning now, that team will be through the roof. Iglesias is a huge upgrade over Ryan and Kawaski.. defensively and even offensively because Brendan Ryan is terrible hitting under .200

Attendance? Seattle clearly didn't care much trading Ichiro away.. He was an icon in Seattle for YEARS and most of the Asian population make trips to Seattle to watch him play. The jersey sales as well with him..

If the team is winning, attendance will come. Look at Pittsburgh and now the Dodgers. Lester would fill some seats too.. Mostly of his family

Hey whatever it gets to land this guy.

Giving up 6 players to gain a dominant, MLB proven pitcher and a wearing down utility guy I have no problem with..

Yeah no kidding Bogaerts is untouchable, but that doesn't mean they're gonna forget about him in the deal. With the ways things our now Bogaerts could be mid to late 2013

I just don't think its as unrealistic as people think.. We have the prospects that have seen some MLB time, a veteran pitcher who WILL be dominant in a different and more home like environment..

I don't think the amount of prospects we'd have to shell out would be worth the limited time Felix would still be under team control.

Big free agent money there, and after we just got out of some gigantic contracts, I don't know it's the right thing to do to go out and get some more.

Felix is all worth it.. He is the real deal..

Martinez: 84-46, 2.98 ERA, 1,221 K, 373 BB, 1,146 IP, 1.10 WHIP. He won his first Cy Young award when he was 25.

Hernandez: 97-72, 3.16 ERA, 1,443 K, 469 BB, 1,576.0 IP, 1.20 WHIP. He won his first Cy Young award when he was 24.

Martinez's numbers before joining the Sox.. And look at Hernandez's.. 2005 (Rookie Year) and 2008 were the only years he didn't reach double digit wins..

Hernandez is great...but so was Beckett.

The Sox have to be careful with the saved money. They can't drain the farm system further and sink the saved money back into an over-priced contract. They have to avoid the traps they have fallen into that has resulted in this horrible season. A great player's production will regress with time. Given the Dodgers' gift, the Sox have to be careful going forward.

But we gave Beckett a huge contract extension at the age of 30..

You get Felix here.. and you can extend him..

I just don't know how Seattle can turn this down:

2B Ackley

CF Bradley Jr

3B Seager

DH Montero

C Lavarnway

RF Saunders

1B Smoak

LF Thames

SS Iglesias

SP: Lester, FA Righty*, Vargas, Iwakuma, and Beavan

* Edwin Jackson, Dice-K, James Shields, etc.

Makes them contenders out west with the Angels, a rising A's team, and the Rangers.

If there is any discussion of a Felix deal, it would inevitably include the two best prospects the Sox just got for Adrian. Of course it would. de la Rosa and Webster would be gone. Probably along with Barnes and a guy like Middlebrooks and they still might demand Cecchini. That's the type of package I envision Seattle needing to part with Felix.

Just like the Dodgers apparently did with Gonzalez, when you say that "Felix is available but he will cost you...", you get some pretty crazy offers I'm sure.

Except they didn't give up a veteran, word series, previous dominant pitcher of a stature like Lester..

Lester has some value in this trade people.. You put him out in his hometown, and a better environment then he is currently, in Boston and he could EASILY regain that dominance..

No way they would take that package, Lester has struggled this year not enough top top tier prospects and Felix Hernandez is only 26. He also has two years left for this contract with Seattle.

Gio Gonzalez got Oakland prospects ranked around 50-65 ( depends on which list you look at some they are as high as 36) in A.J.Cole and Brad Peacock. a back up catcher whose numbers aren't to bad (average is low at .210 but a 280 obp and 5 hr and 5 steals in 38 games is good and he has thrown out 34 percent of runners which is very good) and a guy who has 10 wins and a 3.87 era (17th in the al for startes).

That was for a guy that had two good years of mlb time.Felix had three full years of mlb time before Gio got a call up. And they are the same age.

Also, he loves Seattle and the GM has said “He ain't going anywhere. He's staying right here. … When you have the best or near the best, why would you want to trade him? I'm just not in the mood to trade Felix Hernandez"

If they traded for him the price would be insane ( also it would not include Lavarnway, they have Montero and just drafted Mike Zunino in the first round this year, and he has 13 homers in 38 games in A and AA this year)

The least amount i could see them asking/getting from the redsox is-

Ellsbury or Buccholz, Middlebrooks or Bogaerts,Tazawa or Miller, then probably Bradley jr, webster and cecchini maybe another high prospect plus Mauro gomez ( i just see him going in that deal) and we get Hernandez, Figgins and Franklin Guttierrez .

Sound to steep? The fanbase in Seattle would kill him if he didn't get the biggest haul ever for him. They had 3 top 20 prospects ( 2 pitchers) on almost every ranking sheet coming into this year. They are getting better have some big money off the books ( with ichiro gone) and have been playing better baseball since the All star break.

Lester has had a bad season, but he's certainly rounding into form. His last 5 starts:

34.2 ip (so essentially 7 a game), 3.12 era, 1.07 whip, 8.6 k/9

He's been terrific lately. If he keeps this up, given his past track record, no team will flinch at what he did for the first few months of this season. He'll have tremendous value.

That is true, Lester seems to be getting back on track lately and has good trade value, but in a deal like this ,not nearly the value of Buccholz. Lester has 1 year left at 11 mill plus a club option, Buccholz who has at minnimum the same potential as lester has three years left for 5,7 and 12 million plus a club option for a fourth year ( which is why i think he would be requested in a deal like this)

This thread is funny.

First off, why would Seattle want Lester? He's had a horrible yr, he isnt cheap and he is under control for the same amount of time as Felix.

Secondly, the Yankees offered Montero, Betances, and Banuelos last yr. Last yr, those 3 were top 50 prospects with Montero being a top 5 prospect. We all know that Betances imploded, Banuelos got hurt and Montero is experiencing growing pains in Seattle, but at the time, it was akin to Bogaerts, Barnes, and Bradley. And the Mariners didnt even bat an eye when they said no. Felix has said he likes Seattle and doesnt want to leave. Maybe they extend him, who knows. I highly doubt anything other than the biggest overpay of all time would get Felix

I like Felix and everything, but those numbers just remind me how dominant Pedro was. 430 less innings pitched, and look how close or how much better his numbers are. We need Pedro 2.0!
