So, Todd Helton had season ending surgery to repair his torn labrum which leads many to believe that he is done forever. After all, he is 39 and was having his worst season of his career this season with a .238 average, 7 HR and 39 RBI in only 69 games. Ironically, he was a college teammate of Peyton Manning when Peyton was playing football at Tennessee. Now they are both in Denver. Anyway, will Todd Helton ever play again. I personally don't think there's a point. the Rockies are rebuilding and they don't need him.

Wait, what's ironic about that? I'm not an enforcer of the definition of "irony" like YOTN, but there's no way that should be confused with irony.

Helton was done when he left Coors.

He signed a contract that was all but impossible to live up to -- and danged near lived up to it.

Heck of a talent. Too bad he spent his career in a small market. The man should have been a household name and he just... wasn't.

He has outstanding humility, kind of like Tim Duncan.

Gaaaahhhh enough with the word already.

Also, I agree, it is disappointing for his career to possibly end this way. However, it is not a given that it is over. Hell, the Rockies themselves gave Jason Giambi about three seasons of playing time after everyone figured his career was over.

Seeing Helton with another team would be like seeing Jeter with another team, but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen. Just because the Rockies don't need him doesn't mean that someone else won't give it a shot.

He's known around the writers and he sure as hell passes the numbers test

Will he get in to the HOF in his first year? No. Will he get in? Yes.

I think that the uncertainty surrounding those suspected of steroid use (Sosa, Bonds, McGwire, Clemens, Palmeiro, et cetera) will push Helton from a second or third-ballot Hall of Famer to a first. He's a definite inductee either way, but the fact that he has never been linked in whispers to PEDs will likely get him voted in quickly, especially if the PED accusations keep the other guys out of the hall. It will be good PR for the HOF and by extension, Major League Baseball.
