As reported on ESPN, Joey Votto and the Cincinnati Reds agreed Monday on the framework to a 10-year, $225 million extension.

I think Votto is a tremendous player. He reminds me of Adrian Gonzalez, but can a medium market team afford this contract?

This was a stupid move for a team that will likely never go over $100 mil in a season. They never should have dealt everything they had for Latos. They had Alonso and Grandal ready to take over 1b and C and they should have dealt Votto for a humongous haul and actually rebuilt on the fly. Instead, they put all their chips on Votto and Latos and won't have much cap room to make any adjustments.

Actually, I applaud this move. After years of using both sides of a sheet of paper, the Reds are actually spending money to make money. Their fans have to appreciate this effort. In four years, his money might appear to be a bargain. He is an Adrian Gonzalez type talent.

Translation: Ahh crap, I was hoping to be able to trade all the Yankees prospects whose value has been carefully overexaggerated by the NY-centric media in order to bring in Votto now that Teixeira is starting to show his age a bit.

Stupid contract. It's 12 years total with his current deal and new deal. CLutter f***.

Can't wait to see Ellsbury getting $175M somewhere. And Lester getting $120M himself.

If i'm the Reds i would not i repeat not give that type of contract to one person especially when other

area's of need are required to even contend. Talk about strangling a franchise especially a small

market franchise.

On an unrelated note, did anyone see Johnny Cueto's impersonation of Luis Tiant's delivery yesterday? I loved it. El Tiante was a master showman.
