As a lifetime redsox fan it was gut wrenching to watch last September. It was agonizing. I really don't want to watch a collapse like that again this season. Do you think valentine is ready for the pressure and standards that the city of Boston puts on a redsox manager? Especially after an ending like last year. Or is it going to be an epic fail?

I honestly don't know much about Bobby V, but I hope he works out. I think all he really needs to do is keep everyone motivated and working hard, and cut out the ******** that was happening last year in the clubhouse, and that will be enough. If he can do that, this team has the talent to go a long way.

Old habits die hard. It took eight years of Francona's coddling for the thing to implode. To think Valentine can un-do it in one is absurd. This season is a wash.

BVs job this year is to introduce change, weed out the bad apples, salvage the salvageable, and get the team set up so hopefully with the money they've got coming off the books they can do the right things to make a run at catching lightening in a bottle next year. That's the way I see it. It's unrealistic to think this thing can do a 180 over the winter. There's just too much wrong here for that to happen.

But nobody really knows what the problem was in the clubhouse....a few hinted, but nobody has come out said the issues. Youk made as general comment last week after his fundraiser, but that too was vague.

From what has been hinted:

1st base: a bit of holier than thou...some complaints about playing too many games on Sunday night--leadership?? not so much

2nd base: a dirt dog who worked hard but was looked at as Francona's boy so even though too many people are saying he should be captain, he didn't have those skills

SS: he played and minded his own business

3rd base: injuries and exhaustion got him down. Whether or not his comments about the CF being weak ( along with DP's comments) the previous year caused a problem, we don't know. But no leadership here.

Dh: self centered and no leadership

LF: made too much money with no production so he may have been part of the problem. Supposedly, there were comments about both from other players. ( i have no link, but just recall that was mentioned by some writer)

CF: he was playing his own game to get back his reputation...but there may have been some resentment between him and other players from the previous year

RF: what can you say??

pitching staff...we heard about that after the season was over

catchers: one was new and trying to keep his job and JV did not do his job as captain..he has to take some responsibility for the mess in not stopping it

Francona---did not or could not stop the problems because of his own problems----many have been mentioned..pain, ill health, marriage??

Zipped up my flameproof suit...opinions??
