Apparently JD has yet another setback' date=' this time his finger. He must have broken a nail, I'm sure that will keep him off the field for at least another week.[/quote']At a minimum - longer if his carpal (sp) tunnel acts up.

At this point, isn't it abit too late for him to come back anyway?

Reddick is working out so I'd say keep this mojo going.

Your definition of 'working out' and mine are radically different, I'd say. Reddick may be doing better than I expect Drew to, but he's nowhere near good enough to be getting regular playing time on a team with the Sox's potential. Unfortunately, he's kind of the only option at the moment other than Deadasnell McDoornail, at least until (hopefully) Conor Jackson proves he can take over the utility outfield spot and produce offensively somewhere above the level of Heather Mills.

He hit .208 in August. He has crashed back to earth.

Almost under the .600 OPS mark too, that's not just bad, it's god-freaking-awful, and certainly not working out.

Even Drew has had a better OPS this season than Reddick has had since the beginning of August.

Drew has pretty much dropped off since May 1st though. Drew's OPSs in May, June, and July were .595, .610 and .445 respectively.

I would argue that there is a lot more value in letting a young guy get the work in and try to figure it out instead of trying to make a veteran play who probably would prefer just to retire, and is playing like it.

There is, I was just stating that his OPS was better. The splits in those time are sort of irrelevant.

I would play Reddick, but the comparison was to illustrate a point that Reddick is playing like s***.

When JD Drew's healthy....

If Drew were able to reproduce his averages from his first 4 years of the contract this season, he would earn his pay easily. If he were to reproduce those numbers over 160 games per year, he would have succeeded the value by a good margin. JD Drew was one of the most underrated players in baseball, and everyone just pissed on him because he couldn't play a lot of games or whatever. It hardly matters when you're one of the best at your position when you do play, though.

Yeah he sucks now, he might be done, but he gave us 4 good years, two of which were excellent.

None of this really matters unless they can get Buchholz back in September.

They never replaced the guy in the rotation.

Anyone notice Millwood threw a shutout last night for Colorado?

He is pitching better than any of their starters not named Lester and Beckett--

and they cut the guy in Pawtucket. It just shows how team politics can be roadblocks to

improvement. Roadblocks named Wakefield, Lackey, Miller and Bedard.

Drew? He has run hot and cold in Boston, but he should be a reminder to stay away from Boras,

who will steal your mother's earrings if you deal with him.

I never understood why they didn't bring him up before the trading deadline to see what he could do. he had never been a hard thrower, but he had always been successful. You don't have to throw hard to be successful. See Freddie Garcia.

Drew's contract was not bad, he earned most of it even with a year where he earned pretty much 0.

How is that a reminder not to deal with Boras?

Dice-K is a reminder not to deal with Scott Boras.

But dealing with Boras is kinda unavoidable isn't it, considering the amount of players he represents.

Dice K was not Suzuki or Matsui, but we thought he would be and then some..

That;s right. It wasn't Boras's fault that dice K sucked, and as I remember it, a lot of us were patting Theo and john Henry on the back for eating Boras's lunch in those negotiations.

Nowhere man J.D. Drew, out with a sprained knuckle on the middle finger of his right hand, tried to play catch Tuesday and had trouble. So in addition to not being able to swing a bat, he is unable to throw. “It didn’t go well,’’ Francona said. “He hasn’t been able to swing, so we’re nowhere.’’ With 19 games remaining in the regular season, Drew is running out of time to make himself a viable option for the postseason roster. He has not played since July 19.
He has been completely useless all season long.
