It was the right play to throw home' date=' he had plenty of time. It was a bad play because he bounced the ball.[/quote']

No it wasn't. In the 7th inning, maybe. In the second inning you concede the run and take the out. It wasn't the right play.

It was absolutely the right play to throw home. There was no double play in order and he had plenty of time.

11 extra pitches thanks to Lowrie. Maybe even more, as the situation may have dictated how he pitched to Joyce, who also took the count deep.

So' date=' since the first run that scored was on an error by Lowrie, and the 2nd run that scored was on what should have been the 3rd out, were either of those ER?[/quote']

No, they were both unearned runs.

Both earned. It was a FC that didn't record an out at home. The error was for the extra base the hitter got when he advanced to 2B.

EDIT: Nevermind, the scorer ruled them unearned. Not sure if I agree with that on principle, but I'm Gameday'ing, so I didn't see the play.

I disagree.:dunno: Not trying to pile on Lowrie either, but at this stage of the game 1 run doesn't mean a whole lot. The risk of extra pitches and more runs is why you take the out at first and get the next guy. I don't know if there is a right or wrong play there, but I'm a guy who values his 27 outs and values taking them from the other guy.

Wow, Sox really worked some counts that inning, huh? We're playing some frustrating ball lately.

That's what I thought. And AtWork - No way that was the right play after going to your left and having to spin around and make the throw home. Get the out at first, the runner from 2nd doesn't advance to 3rd because ball is on the left side, and you have 2 outs, man on 2nd. In the 2nd inning, a 1-0 deficit is nothing. Get the out.

@SoxFanForsyth The official scorer altered the decision, ruled that runner would have been out at plate but for the error.

So apparently they are unearned runs after all.

Agree to disagree then. At any stage in the game when it's between an easy throw to home that prevents a run or an easy throw to first, I think you throw home. Besides, this guy held us scoreless through 8 innings last time we faced him.

The fact the the official scorer ruled the runner would have been out at home if the play was made just enforces that it was an easy play.
