I was responding more to your assertion that Dipre was one of the 'better' posters on the site.

I would remind you that crack cocaine is not only illegal, but detrimental to your health.

And if he really is that guy' date=' what do you do with him? Super-utility/DH, but everyday player? Starting SS and *gulp* dish Iglesias + some others for a stud young pitcher?[/quote']

Dipr's opinion seemed to skip around a bit, but unfortunately, the stance he found and decided to stand by was a solid one. I was surprised by his projection-- .370 OBP is the stat I remember-- which seemed pretty high for someone down on a player. The reason why Lowrie ended up as this "super-utility" player is because he's good enough at all four infield positions defensively, and because he isn't necessarily going to stay this healthy all season.

Unfortunately, it seems like that is the organization's stance as well-- I don't know if you noticed, but Lowrie didn't get the starting nod until he got deep into this ridiculous hitting streak, at which point they can't bench him. But damnnn, I sure am enjoying the ride:lol:

Yeah the health is a big question mark. But if the guy slows down to a .320 average or something like that, and plays 110 - 120 games, I think they're going to have a pretty tough decision on their hands.

Worst case scenario, Lowrie plays 120+ this year, hits 18-20 HR, drives in 65-70, and becomes big trade bait for a catcher or a SP.

If he puts up that kind of year....why does he become trade bait? I think you keep a young guy that can do that. If the guy just behind him has a good year in AAA, that's the guy that becomes bait, IMO, because you don't have to worry about dealing with a bust.

I think in general, he's a big question mark. I've constantly brought this point up-- but in his monster 2010, the crazy part about those 50 games is... that was after missing two seasons. How many players miss a significant amount of time and come back and kill the ball? He's practically still a rookie, with only 525 MLB at bats in his career.

Well, Lowrie has had to hit his way into the lineup, forcing out a guy who is being paid a much higher salary. That's a hard thing to do. If this club was winning, I doubt even hot hitting would have done it. But Francona's pretty desperate right now.

Looks like Lowrie is about to join Pedroia and Hanley R. as great infielders brought through their farm system recently. Stay healthy, kid.

If Lowrie can play good SS and hit .900 OPS, it will be hard for Iglesias to replace him.

They could, however, find another position for him.

If he can play adequate defense at SS, moving Lowrie to another position will devalue his bat. I think he could be a very good offensive SS. I think he would be average at a corner spot, and 2B is off the table unless something happens to Pedroia. The key to Iglesias making it in MLB is hitting enough to play SS, forget about another position for him.

Well. The reason I had Lowrie as trade bait is because I don't know how much the front office is going to buy into 1.5 seasons of .900+ OPS baseball from a guy who has historically been fairly injury prone, especially when they have Iggy in the minors. So they'll be put in a situation where they can take a chance with a guy who is a future gold glove SS who doesn't hit to a .900 OPS but is a wall at SS, or they can take a chance with a guy who has crushed the past couple seasons, defense is average, and has had injury problems.

Now to be fair, I don't think you can even get close to justifying the classification of mono as being "injury prone" and if he is hitting, his wrist is clearly better.

I think the FO will probably gamble with Iggy, though. And his defense is really unbelievable. But I don't think they have considered that they may be faced with a choice of a .900 OPS or a gold glover at SS.

I agree with the part in bold, which is why it's bogus to list "injury prone" in the column against him, but you did anyway.

He had a wrist injury due to being struck by a pitch, and then he got a viral infection. These do not make you a likely candidate for future injuries, which means you aren't "injury prone".

He should be graded on his play, which since his return from mono, has been very good.
