Coming out for The Pads series later in the year and wanted some heads up advice on the best places to stay for nightlife/bars.

Any decent hotel recomendations greatly appreciated.

The Sox have become everyone's 'second team to watch' in San Diego for obvious reasons, and when he comes good......guys......he really is good.

I visited Boston during the christmas time, we stayed at a beautiful B&B on the Newbury St. It was called the Newbury Guest House, fairly reasonable, and very close to Fenway. I believe it took us under 20min by the T (subway line) Yes I went to Fenway during the Blizzard and even though the stadium was covered in snow, it was my first time going and it was incredible. Just saying :-)

.. Hope that helps..

I made a few posts in the past for people with questions who are visiting Fenway for the first time. I hope these help:

I arrive around 5-530 PM. I usually go to GAME ON, a local bar and grab a pizza and beer. Going to a RedSox game isnt simply a baseball game, its a event. The buzz around the park before games is what gets me most excited to go to Fenway.

There is very little room to walk around, its very cramped. If you want to walk around.....do it before the game starts. You can pretty much see any area you want except the Green Monster seating area, and the VIP areas.

The best food outside the stadium is the "sausage guy" sausages. And yes, there is a quality difference between the different sausage carts. Sausage guy makes his own sausage, while most others just pick up a pack of sweet italians from their local supermarket.

The best food inside the stadium is the Fenway Frank. It is a Kayem hot dog that is steamed/or grilled and has a hint of smoky/spiciness. Get it with spicy mustard only. Do not get them from concession stands (they grill them on rollers), rather....get them from a vendor in the stands (those ones are steamed). Vendor dogs are more authentic.

As far as drink, basically anywhere you go......you will get a watered down draft pilsner beer. Make sure you get 2 at a time (dont want to look like a rookie).

Dont worry about being polite, people understand that the place is cramped. Most people are more than accommodating to stand up and let you pass to do whatever you have to do (although I try to wait in between innings).

Clothing, if its 60 or up, I recommend shorts and a T shirt......and bring a pullover sweatshirt or light jacket. Less than 60, dress to be a little colder.

A Burtons Grille opened up near the park, and they have a really nice upscale dining type menu. You will spend about 60 bucks per person (drinks, appetizer, tip included in the price). The best way to enjoy the game is a sausage guy sausage before the game. There are numerous other bars/sausage,hotdog stands around the stadium.

I would suggest being around the stadium around 5pm.

What to do during the game? Drink beer and watch baseball. Also stuff your face with some fenway franks.

I am just blown away that people actually support the Padres

Blown away that someone would support their hometown team who basically suck, year in, year out, instead of following the Yankees from 5000 miles away and calling myself a 'fan,' just so I can say I support a team that wins?

It's called loyalty and the fact you don't get that says more about you than it does me.

Please don't tell me he's that annoying guy in a bar in Des Moines that has been to the old Yankee stadium once - on an off day - but managed to get the stadium tour, and got his picture taken next to Jeters locker whilst breathing in the sweet aroma of his jock strap, and has since bored every customer in the bar with the story for the last 25 years.

That would be too funny, although entirely believable. lol

Padres ~

Anytime, anything I can do with advice from someone who is not a local. Last xmas was the first time that I had ever been to Boston and it was everything that I had dreamed of. I have yet to get to a game and it is my dream to see a game in Boston. Being in the stadium was enough but actually seeing the first pitch thrown and having a hotdog.. you have no idea.

I am truly forever with Bosox no matter if they are 0-5 (crying a little inside) but that is okay.

There is a pub/Restaurant right across from the stadium called Cask'n Flagon, I do not drink but the atmosphere was nice. Fairly priced.

Take care,

Born in Jersey and live in Mass now. And I have been to Yankee stadium many times. They're my local club as well. I am just kidding with you, the Pads have a bright future. I actually have a soft spot for them since they always were the doormats of the NL, but have started to stir to life over the past 13 yrs or so. Plus, I always liked Tony Gwynn

Hello Red Sox Nation,

I am a long time Texas Rangers fan, and one of my childhood dreams as a baseball fan is to visit the greatest stadium in the world. I've decided to take a trip this September to see my beloved Rangers when they play at Fenway. I was wondering as a fan of the opposing team what my experience would be like (I am not obnoxious I promise). I am taking my girlfriend with me and we are both so excited to catch a game at Fenway but I have always heard the stories of batteries being thrown and things of that nature (but I assume thats just when the yanks come to town, in which case I can't blame you). I would appreciate any suggestions you guys might have as to how I can support my team and enjoy a game at Fenway.

As long as you're not too loud, I don't think it'll be a big deal, unless you get seated next to idiots. I've seen Yankee fans be obnoxious and no one messed with them. Most of Fenway is full of pink hats, and families-- its not like football. Boston fans hate the Yankees, but the Rangers aren't anywhere as big a deal, I don't think-- there hasn't been much history between the two teams.

Indeed.

@PadresLoyal -- I lived in San Diego for 13 years and have been to far more Padres games than Sox games. That's a great city you live in with a beautiful ballpark and good fans too. Good luck to your team this year!

Thanks man, appreciated.

These Red Sox fans have no idea how graceful and how effortless Adrian Gonzalez makes violent hitting look, but when they see it....they should come back to this thread and tell me I was right lol

He's a batting genius and even better person.

Padres fan too!
