Hello all. A life long dream of mine will come true when my son and I come to Boston for a Red Sox game. I've been a fan of the Red Sox since I was a kid, and have always wanted to see a game at Fenway. My wife surprised us both with not only Red sox Tickets but Red Sox / yankees tickets for the game on Aug 30. I've never been to Boston and was hoping for some advice on where to stay and eat and any other must see's. We will be flying in on Aug 29 and going back to Alabama on Aug 31. We are not renting a car. How is public trans ? What's the weather like in late August ? My son is 21 so we don't need any kiddie destinations. Any suggestions woud be most appreciated. We can't wait !

Thanks,

David

Public transportation is a mixed bag. If you're staying at a hotel near kenmore, you're absolutely golden, you can get anywhere in the city in a half hour. Late August is usually pretty hot, but sometimes it can get cool at nights-- whenever you're in New England, always pack atleast one pair of shorts and long pants no matter what season haha. There are wayyyy tooo many restarants for me to even start. Just check Yelp, or wander around, you'll find something very quickly.

Hmmmmmm...... Your best bet is to stay at the Holiday Inn (or is it a Travel Lodge?) on Beacon Street in Brookline. The "T" (Green Line -Cleveland Circle / Boston College ) runs right in front of the motel. Just hop on and you are in Kenmore square in 3-5 minutes. Kenmore Square is a 400 yard walk to Fenway Park. There are tons of good places to eat around there. My suggestion is to check out Sol Azteca on Beacon Street near the corner of Park Drive. THE BEST Mexican food in Boston. Coco's Disciples and Yeszir can give you more advice on where to eat. Best of luck and have fun.

Thanks to both of you for the quick responses. Just the info I was looking for. We were also hoping to find what we in the south call a seafood dive. A seafood place with no dress code and ice cold long necks.

O'Learys on Beacon Street (close to Fenway) is also a pretty cool place to eat...close to Sol Azteca actually.

Also, Boston Beer Works right across from Fenway is a good place. But it gets packed before a game.

Public transportation works pretty well, the green line can be slow at times, as it is above-ground.

The suggestion for the Holliday Inn in Brookline on Beacon street is pretty solid advice. If you want to go cheaper you can stay at the Super8 In Watertown and take the 57 Bus straight to Fenway, but you won't be in the city.
