The Cubs and Rays have agreed to a trade that will send Matt Garza to Chicago, according to Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com. Chris Archer, Brandon Guyer, Robinson Chirinos, Hak-Ju Lee and Sam Fuld head to Tampa for Garza, a minor-league pitcher and a minor-league outfielder, Levine reports.

I don't know anything about the guys they got back. Anyone? 5 for 1 seems like a good deal on the surface.

edit: I re-read it and see that two prospects are going to the Cubs as well.

And the Rays continue to reload. For all that has been said about the Royals current farm system, the Rays in 2012/2013 will probably be just as strong.

Looks like it's a 5 for 3, but the only notable person from TB to Chicago is Garza.

Not to mention that their draft has the potential to be better than ours too.

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. 9 picks in the top 60, with their exceptional scouting and farm system, in what I've been hearing is a loaded draft? Yeah, they could very easily win a WS in a few years.

Although they have a lot harder time signing players than we do. So we could very well have a better draft than the Rays even with less picks.

Hate to lose Garza. He can be an absolute beast, but for a small market team like the Rays he is not affordable. That said I wish their CF prospect Jackson had been included in the deal.

Well Jennings, Hellickson, Archer and maybe Moore should be up. Still going to be a strong system but probably still shy of the current Royals system.

YES!!!!!

He always owned the Red Sox so its good to see him gone and not to mention I wont miss having to watch him spit 12918412903381290 times pitching VS the Red Sox

same story as always with the Rays, sucked for 11 years and got top draft picks all during that time for a 2-3 year run at the end of this decade. We'll see what they can do with this new crop but their lineup will not be competing for a WS anytime soon without some major acquisitions or immediate prospect development.

Price, Davis, Niemann, Hellickson... they have better starters than the Yankees at this point. Two or three offensive prospects, and they're back to what they used to be. Don't count a team out with an ace in his 2nd full year in the majors.

They might even have a better roto than the Red Sox too. Just depends on how well Hellickson adjusts. Then factor in they could spin Shields, who I'm not a fan of at all and replace him with Moore.

The Rays have plenty of pitching. Bullpen is a question mark but again they have plenty of young arms to put in there. Offense is what they are lacking. Although if some of the players they have lived up to their potential they would have plenty of offense.

I'll give you price but the others we'll have to wait and see.

Niemann was horrible after he came from his injury last year .

Davis had a so so year

Hellickson looks like the real deal but we'll have to wait and see

What about their pen?

4.07 ERA from Davis in his first full season, Nieman was in his second full season and was an ace in the first half. Price had a huge breakout year in his second full year.In Hellickson's first 4 starts he gave up a total of 6 runs, and will finally get a chance in the majors, the two starts I saw him pitch he looked filthy. These are four dominant young arms, completely ready, all club-controlled for atleast 3 more years.

They'll figure something out. Will Fuentes take a pay cut to close for them? He's desperate to close, and they must have cut some serious cash from their pen this season by now.
