Baseball Redraft League Draft and Discussion Thread

I figured that I'd at least create the thread which will house the draft for this baseball season. I'll post the draft order (and I'll update it in case anyone agrees to switch draft positions) and I'll frequently update it as picks are selected. I'd probably need someone's help to make a chart in my post.

 

A few notes.

 

1. The draft will start on Monday December 27th. It will start at 8am, and the first person can make their pick at that moment.

 

2. Each person has 8 hours to make their pick. The clock starts when the previous person makes their pick, or when the previous person is "skipped". The clock will stop from midnight to 8am, however picks can still be made in that time. In other words, if the person before me picks at 10:15pm, then I will be skipped if I don't make my pick by 2:15 pm.

 

3. If you get your pick skipped, you can make up your pick at any time. However, if your pick gets skipped multiple times, then we won't wait the 8 hours to skip you, the next person can pick immediately.

 

4. If you aren't going to be around, and your pick is coming up, do everyone a favour and message someone (or a few people) your desired pick (and one backup).

 

5. If we have to skip multiple people, then the draft window will be shortened to 6 hours, pending a vote by members of the draft.

 

6. You are drafting a 25 man roster, with 12 pitchers and 13 batters. You are to draft the 8 fielding spots and a DH to make a 9 person lineup, as well as a random assortment of bench players. You can choose any positions you want for your bench.

 

7. You can play your players anywhere. Granted, it isn't wise to put Joe Mauer as your CF, but you could, although you'd probably get a huge deduction from the voters.

 

8. Once the draft is complete, there will be a trading window where people can trade picks in case they are overcap. (The cap is $110 million based on 2010 salaries)

 

**9. When you make your draft pick, type the name of the player and the position they play, as well as the 2010 salary. This is so that we can check the numbers and make sure you're using the correct number, and so you can have an idea as to how you're doing vs. the cap. Try to put this information in bold.

 

10. There will be a "Clubhouse Thread" where you can post your rosters. I suggest that you update your roster on this thread with each pick, that way we can copy and paste your rosters when the voting takes place.

 

11. Since Brian Scalabrine is clearly the best player in all of sports, he is assumed to be on everyone's roster, so we are in fact, drafting the other 25 players to be on our team.

 

12. Don't talk about players in this thread that have not yet been drafted. You don't want to sway the draft in one way or another.

 

Any questions/comments/concerns can be made here and we will address them. This is the first redraft for some people so they might not be on the same routine that others are on.

I know it's "breaking the rules" but I'd be ok with him making his pick now. That way Divinity can think about who he's going to pick earlier.

 

And worst case scenario (if Dipre doesn't allow it) then we'd know who you're going to pick and we can simply make it "official" when the draft starts. Otherwise we can let you pick and Divinity can pick whenever, or he could trade his pick, or wait until tomorrow. I don't think it's a big deal at this point, as long as we don't skip anyone since we technically started early.

It likely would have been my first pick too. I had a few options, but if I had the first pick (which I would have tried to trade out of) I likely would have picked Longoria.

Yeah, it was a nice contract but you have 110 million to blow. Don't get me wrong he's a good player I just didn't expect him to be picked first. You got a good player for a cheap price. Can't really complain there haha.

I forgot to mention this rule. Don't mention players in this thread if they haven't yet been drafted. Don't say things like "I'd rather take (player x) with this pick" unless that player was drafted earlier.

Once we get the chart thing figured out, I'll keep tabs on it. Don't worry about it not being updated. Dipre and I are working on getting it started, it should be easy to maintain from there.

Longoria was an excellent first pick. Arguably the best overall third baseman in baseball and with that salary, what a bargain!
