Capps is your closer' date=' though, so you dont use him up in the 6th or 7th. Fuentes is good vs lefties, but the game really turned on a better lefty lefty matchup with Liriano and Granderson. I think the Twins bigger problems came with their inability to score off Robertson with the sacks packed. You had two late chances that fell by the wayside[/quote']

Fuentes, Rauch and Capps is all you need past the 6th. They beat the hell out of using Guerrier and Crain, two players who're notorious for getting destroyed by the Yankees.

Once Liriano was out of the game' date=' Gardenhire should have gone to Fuentes in the 7th when the game was tied. Going to Crain was like forfeiting the game. No Morneau (a top 3 AL hitter when he got injured) + the stupidity of Gardenhire = defeat. It's as simple as that.[/quote']

If you were to do that, you'd be asking Fuentes to face nine hitters. Gardenhire, and rightfully so, wanted his final lefty against Cano, Thames (to avoid Berkman), Posada, Granderson, and Gardner.

Emmz, a lot of managers have that trouble. Girardi ran into that last night too when CC started walking the park and gave away a lead. The thing with Gardy is, who does he bring in? We hit Guerrier, we hit Crain. Rauch is probably the only guy we havent historically crushed, but he cannot pitch 3 innings. The Liriano vs Granderson matchup was as good a matchup as he was getting. Granderson just beat him.

Regardless, I know this series isnt over by a long shot. BUT, the big thing is, the pressure is off for tonight. We can win this thing without coming back to Minnesota, which is a huge boost. That being said, a sweep would be absolutely fantastic as it allows CC to not have to go on short rest and gives us time to set up our rotation for the ALCS.

Oh, and for my stalker, I am not working tonight. So as long as I dont go out to watch the game, I will be here.

I'm sorry I forgot you were so sensitive. Take a joke. You're the last person I'd want to stalk anyways.

That's not the real issue IMO, the real issue is that Crain shouldn't have been allowed to face Teixeira. If he wanted to save his "final lefty" he had a legitimate option in Rauch against Teix and A-Rod. The game was lost for the Twins in that AB, and this is not a "hindsight is 20-20" issue.

Crain vs the Yanks: .943 OPS against in 16.0 IP. That is absolutely atrocious.

And another thing i noticed in last night's game: What's wrong with Mauer? His swing looks loooooooong, and he's barely putting any pressure on his front foot......has his right knee given out?

A Yankee fan "friend" of mine was at Target last night, and he mentioned this to me, and looking at the replay of Mauer's final AB i could see where he's coming from.

My point is that Gardenhire was going to have him face the bottom five in the order no matter what, and that was the right move. If he had brought him in when you wanted him to, he would have to face nine batters.

Yeah, that I agree with. All I was saying is that I think he went to Fuentes at the appropriate time.

Despite the soft run' date=' Pettitte has looked sharp.[/quote']

Soft run? He looks sharp?

He gave up back-to-back hits to lead off the inning, then walked the bases loaded on 4 pitches before giving up the sac fly. And he was lucky to get out of it on that hard hit line drive right at Cano.

Both of the hits were soft, and the walk was probably a pitch around to set up the DP. He got lucky with the line out, but Hardy should have been struck out on the 0-2 pitch.

Delmon Young's single to lead off the inning was a scorcher right back up the middle. That was not a soft hit.

I don't think it was scorched, although I agree, it wasn't softly hit. But it's still just a ground ball, and, more importantly, it was on a pitch where Pettitte hit his spot.
