ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes hears that Daisuke Matsuzaka would be willing to waive his no trade clause if it sent him to the West Coast. John Hickey of AOL Fanhouse says the Mariners might be willing to discuss a trade with the Sox, as long as the price is low (both Twitter links).

go for it. i'd be willing to eat $14 million of the remaining $20.6 million on his contract

Lol.

I've been banging this drum for for over a year on talksox.

"Ooh.. he has a no trade clause".

"Ooh... he was excellent in 2008".

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Pay attention.

Dice-k will be costing roughly 18.5 million dollars each of the next two years because of the posting fee. He's clearly not going to be worth that much. However, at most, Seattle will probably give the team 5 million a year for him.

The situation is the same with Dice-k as Beckett and as with Lackey. They are costing more than they're worth, but the simple fact is that no one is going to give the team anything of value to obtain them. They all have potential, and I'd rather seem them reach it here rather than pay for them to reach it elsewhere.

i'm not sure what you mean about the posting fee. that was a one time, lump sum that doesn't factor into what he makes now

Semantics again it seems. It doesn't factor into what he makes, but it does factor into how much he is costing the team.

I can hardly wait until the Red Sox bury this treasure. If they can get Beltran in return, I'd be ecstatic. Beltran has lost mobility, and should probably play LF and not CF, but he is far from a broken down war horse. The second half of this season has been spent trying to get his stroke back while playing on a terrible team. He is an exceptional hitter, and a switch hitter.

I don't think he'll waive it to play on the east coast ppl. Daisuke in Seattle is the only rumor we have any reason to suspect he'll waive for. Focus all trade attentions there.

Beltran makes our broken-outfield problem so much worse. Drew, Beltran, Ellsbury, Cameron.... Why do I get a feeling the starting OFs mid-season 2011 will be Nava, Reddick, and Kalish?

Still say no to Beltran. When was the last time Beltran went a season uninjured. Heck when was the last time he played more than a half season. Not denying his capabilities when healthy. After a season marred with injuries. The last thing that fixes anything is acquiring an injury prone player.

Met doctors botched his case. He went on his own to a doctor during the 2009 season who told him that he needed microfracture surgery. Met doctors said no, and said he only needed rest. By the end of the season the Met doctors admitted that he needed the surgery. That is why is rehab went into the 2010 season. I would take him for Dice K. I'd take a bag of ball for Dice K.

i don't see how his posting fee matters at all in any potential trade

Send him to the NL to salvage what he can. If we eat half of the contract' date=' the Nats might willing to take him at $5M a year.[/quote']

West Coast team man. The Nats play in DC.

So have I. I don't think they should trade him for nothing. And I'm curious to their plan on how to replace him.

I guess I can hope that Felix has told the team to trade him in private

But realistically, Dice-K should warrant some value in return. If the Sox are willing to pick up a % of the amount remaining on his deal, I wager imagine Oakland, Seattle, SF, SD, and LAD to all have interest at some level or another.

Its the matter of how much money the sox will be dumping. If they get 10/2 for him, it makes a much bigger difference if they're losing 27/2 than 9/2.

i don't think the ownership/front office cares about the posting fee at all in making a decision

i was talking about how the team misdiagnosed him and he went to his own doctor
It's more like Schilling's case, when they told him to rehab and forego surgery, but he eventually needed the surgery. In Schilling's case it ended his career. In Beltran's case it cost him a big part of the following season.

Beltran is more of a plan C or D. I don't think he would be their main objective going into the off season.
