Yanks threw this game so they could face Twins in the first round

No need to be a douche....the Yanks sucked in the final 2 games. We had our AAA guys out there in game 2 of the double header. Pretty close in game 3. The NYY are struggling and will be lucky to get out of the first round unless they make some changes/attitude adjustments by Wed.

Be realistic, please.

The Twins are also struggling a bit, having lost seven of their last nine. Additionally, momentum usually doesn't mean all that much going into the postseason.

You are right. ANYTHING can happen in the play-offs. Just hoping it doesn't go the NYY way.

Soryy Y228, don't mean to be a bitch...but ya know....

Good luck to you and yours, but not your Yanks... :)

Haha I completely understand. Divinity's comment was ridiculous, and deserved a harsh response.

i have to say, this is about as happy as i could be about a team that missed the playoffs. they really put in a good effort and this ending to the season feels a lot more fulfilling than last year

Good way to end the season. I'm really surprised that we only missed the playoffs by 6 games considering all our injuries. That bodes well for next year.

Your backups played over their heads. By production, your loss of Pedroia and Youkilis was probably made up for by a margin of 6 games by the play of Kalish, Hall, and others. You shouldnt take too much from their finish aside from some strong heart and good leadership. If the sox pretend like they can hold form and just try to stay healthy, they are going to end up in 3rd again. You have to figure that NY is going to upgrade their only major weakness (that being a #2 starter). So the sox not only need to stay healthy AND get similar production from their three spots that are currently holes, but they also need to improve by whatever changes NY makes in the offseason as well. The hole is deep, a lot deeper than their finish would suggest. NY played .500 the last 3 months and still beat the sox by 6 games, and if you factor in the last 3 weeks were essentially played with a "get healthy" attitude, then the difference is much bigger.

The Rays are losing some serious talent this off-season. The Sox may not be able to overtake the Yankees next year' date=' but they very well be able to overtake Tampa.[/quote']

I think the only talent they lose is in the pen. Pena is certainly possible to return, and if he isnt, they definitely can reproduce a .750OPS 1b. Jennings should lessen the pain of losing Crawford. The biggest loss will be in the back end of the pen. But dont underestimate them. They have Hellickson waiting in the wings to take a rotation spot and I bet Shields or Garza are suiting up with another club next yr. THe Rays have the talent to still be one of the best teams in baseball, and if they moves stay shrewd, they wont go anywhere for a little while

the yankees and rays will do nothing but improve and the red sox will miss the playoffs for the next 100 years

Also Fenway will burn down and Theo Epstien will contract leprosy, unwittingly infecting all of Boston before it is accidentally destroyed by a nuclear weapon.

I was merely being sarcastic, but to be realistic I agree with you, they've been playing pretty poorly as of late.

Like clockwork.

I predicted exactly how the rest of this post would go after reading the first six words.

Totally unsurprising.

Oh, sorry for being a be-atch. :(

As we all know, regardless of the regular season, anything can happen in the playoffs.

This is idiotic, and trust me: The Village Idiot knows from idiocy! ;)

Oh silliness, where to begin? The caliber and totality of players who were hurt for the majority of the Sox' season; the kind of ball the Sox were playing from late May through the second week in July (pre-injuries); and the strength of the Sox' offensive production before the second wave of freak injuries hit mid-season/pre-All Star game point to one likelihood: take away the freak injuries to Youkilis, Pedroia, Ellsbury, Martinez, Cameron and Tek (all were freak injuries), and one of the two key injuries our starters Beckett and Daisuke faced...and assume the Yankees and Rays both played exactly the way they did (i.e., with very few key injuries in contrast) and you can't say the Sox likely wouldn't have won the A.L. East with relative ease this year.

If that's not clear, try this: Take the following players off the 2010 Yankees for the following amounts of time and tell me that the Yankees wouldn't have ended this season at least 10 games back against a relatively healthy Sox team and a relatively healthy Rays team: Granderson (full season); Cano (second half of the season); Teixeira (second half of the season); Brett Gardner (sporadic in first half; gone the second half); Posada (full month); Cervelli (full month); in addition to Pettite being out injured as he was, Hughes (full month), and Burnett (full month).

You are right that the back-ups stepped up for the Sox this year (but actually, Darnell McDonald and Bill Hall were more productive than Ryan Kalish and Daniel Nava). However, it's nearly impossible to overstate what losing the likes of Youkilis and Pedroia and the combination of other players truly meant to the Red Sox' offense in the second half of the year.

And just as I typed that, Teixeira goes down. Crazy coincidence.

Hahaha Cano and Tex alone injured and the Yanks would have been in deep s***. Let's not forget we lost Beckett for a while so throw C.C in there. Now they're really f***ed. Although injuries did have an effect on this that's not the only thing. Bullpen was a major issue as well. Anyways with all that being said don't waste your time arguing this with him. You won't win trust me.

Texas needs to get to Burnett in this inning or its unlikely they pull this one off.

Funny that Michael Jordan is sitting next to Indra Nooyi, the President & CEO of Pepsi. I'd like to be a fly on the cup holder in the seats between them during THAT conversation.

Michael: So Indra, how's business?

Indra: Oh, you know, Michael. Our business in India's skyrocketing, but only in the Western half of the country. The problem's the other 300 million living in the North and the East on less than $1.25 per day who couldn't afford a can of Pepsi unless they saved up for it for weeks. How do we bridge that gap between the haves and the have nots in that country? I struggle with these realities.

Michael: You see me in that Hanes commercial earlier this year?

Indra: Yeah, I've got a yoga instructor I need to introduce you to. You need to work on those pecs, bro.
