I think the Red Sox should sign Cliff Lee, then we can probably palm off Doubront and Dice-K for Felix Hernandez, since it's like two decent young pitchers for a really good one. Then we should just like cut Beckett and Lackey, and trade Ellsbury for Wainwright since Ellsbury will be cheap and the Cardinals will need money to sign Pujols, and Wainwright will be really expensive in the future. Then we would have a rotation of Wainwright, Lee, Hernandez, Lester, and Buchholz. Then we could eat some of J.D. Drew's salary and trade him for like Dominic Brown since Drew is a proven decent player and Brown could be a huge bust. If I'm the Phillies GM, if I think that I want J.D. Drew to help me win this year, you know what? I'm one of those guys, I make that deal. Then we'll have money to sign Werth, Crawford, Downs, and Soriano. I think this would be an okay team.

What are the chances this happens?

I don't think fans are losing interest just because of the lack of a salary cap (although its a HUGE issue), I think people just don't like baseball anymore. Lets face it, most guys want ACTION. It's become a football nation, they want big scores, big violent hits, and big games. A football game is like an actual battle. Baseball games are slow, are filled with a lot of standing around, and each individual game isn't important until the very end of the season.

I don't think it's a bad thing, I love the tension in baseball just like I love the tension in old school horror films, but it's a fading thing.

Dice K clearly is a guy thats everyone's getting sick off!!!I would trade him for a bag of peanuts right now!!!

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about, and have just jumped into the classic Dice-k hate-wagon. Do you know when the last time Dice-k gave up more than 4 earned runs? May. He's been the best starter on this team-- outside of Cy Young contenders. He's pitched his last two games with mild injuries, and that causes problems. Big deal, he's still a good pitcher, even if he's not worth the money.

They wont be signing Cliff Lee....thats a no.

Why would they (Seattle) trade the best pitcher in baseball for a marginal prospect and an overpaid underachiever....thats a no.

Beckett and Lackey cut? Are you serious or just kidding around? They are both in the first years of expensive long term contracts (4 years). Thats a no.

Why would St.Louis trade one of the best pitchers in the NL for a guy who has been hurt all year? Thats a no.

Trade Drew for a 22 year old kid with 63 MLB abs? Why would the Phillies do that? They are already most likely going to the post season......and PHI fans HATE JD DREW. They were the original team that drafted him before the Cardinals. Thats a no.

Sign Werth, Crawford, Downs, and Soriano?

I really think this is just a joke right? Theres no way you think that this stuff can actually happen. This isnt MLB the show 2011 for your playstation.

I really hope he was being sarcastic as well :D

I don't know if any of the things that he proposed can be accomplished. I do agree that they need to do something bold to reassert themselves within the AL East. If they just rely on guys getting healthy, I think we will find ourselves in a similar situation next season.

But, but, but, Theo has a plan!

I agree a700. The sox, even healthy, are not at the level of the Yankees. Hell, the Yanks are seeing career worst seasons from Jeter and Arod and went without Teixeira for 2 months practically and they have the best record in baseball. Jeter and ARod are going to be back next yr, and although I think Jeter's defense will decline, I bet he and ARod improve with the stick from their pretty bad 2010 lines

Lots of back patting in Jacko's post, very little substance.

1) A completely healthy Sox team this season would have been at least as good as the Yankees. If you want to state otherwise, prove it objectively.

2) Jeter and A-Rod are getting older, not younger. If the same was said of a Sox player in his mid-30's, that would have been exactly your argument. Be consistent.

The reason the Sox need to get creative next season is because of Beltre leaving and Cameron's sudden decline, not because they weren't (as much as it would pain Yankee fans to admit it) on par with the Yankees had they been healthy, which they obviously weren't.

Yeah, stupid Theo doesn't know what he's doing.

I think the 2010 team had a lot more potential than you are indicating.

If the Yankees lost the equivalent in talent you would be asking for a re-do, not saying they were fundamentally unable to compete from the outset.

I thought from the outset of the season that the red sox team was a playoff team if healthy, but I thought that the Yankee team was going to win the division. Obviously, injuries have changed things, but the Yankees are on pace to win the division and the Red Sox have a better record than the Rangers who are a division leader by 10 games.

Yeah, I was being sarcastic. This team is onpace to win 90 games with Beckett, Lackey, and Paps having career worst seasons and the injuries to almost everyone. I never thought Lackey was particularly good, but it's not inconceivable that the sox could have reached 100 wins if healthy and having normal seasons (not likely, but possible). I don't think there's anyone on the FA market that would make the Sox definite favorite over the Yankees, but I also don't think there are a lot of moves outside trades worth making.

DiceK is fine as a 5th started - overpaid, but not much you can do about it now.

I also think that they had potential. They really had a brutal year in terms of mixing and matching because of injuries..........then the bullpen s*** the bed and then the two highest paid pitchers on the team did nothing....add in a 4-10 6+ ERA from Wakefield.........and were lucky they are where they are.
