Two good things from Lowell today so far. A great snag of a poor high throw from Lowrie on the DP (that had to hurt) and now a long shot to dead center for a double.

i'm no baseball expert' date=' but it looked like lowrie could have just tagged out the runner in front of him rather than throwing home[/quote']

Hmmmm.... if he had to chase the runner or got into a run down, the run may have scored.

I'm no expert either.

It was actually a heads up play by Lowrie.

i understand the danger of missing the tag but it seems more dangerous to make a throw across the diamond considering how awesome our team is at throwing and catching

That's what I thought. It was a good play.

Double steals are designed to get the runner on third to score. Many times the runner from first will drop to the ground. By the time the fielder reaches down to apply the tag, the runner from third has scored. Lowrie made the right play. He didn't even give the runner at second a thought.

i understand all of that but in my opinion it looked like lowrie had the runner. the runner did fall down and on the replay it looked like lowrie could have tagged him easily

By the time the fielder looks for the runner from second, it is too late. They are trained to cut off the run at the plate.

i understand they're trained to cut off the run at the plate and that he did what he was supposed to do. i still think he could have easily reached down and tagged the runner before the run scored if he had time to throw across the diamond before the run scored
