Is that the fastest recorded pitch in the MLB? Curious, because my son said he heard someone pitched 107, and I thought that was damn near impossible. But 105 is close. Who's the fastest all time?

It's in Bob Feller territory, but he hasn't beat Bob yet. Before I took it too seriously though I'd have to have it verified that the gun was neutral.

Mmh. He's got the same mechanical issues that plagued Strasburg. And ayone who throws an 85 MPH slider is asking for ligament damage. Yes I do know that that includes Dan Bard.

I'm certainly not going to make a pro-TJS argument or anything, but TJS isn't the same thing as it was years ago. There have been tons of players that are doing well today that have had TJS not too long ago.

I think it has more to do with the core training and strengthening than actual ligamentous strength. As an example, Dellin Betances had a partial TJS and followed the workout regimen. He put on 20 pounds of muscle and looks like a horse out there. There is no doubt that he is much stronger in his core

Reliever vs starter' date=' though. And I still dont believe in the inverted W. Tons of pitchers need TJS.[/quote']

He's a reliever now. But I believe the long term plan is to have him start.

And I agree about TJS. It's just one of those things now. Although obviously you wouldn't want to have to get it, but Strasburg is lucky in that he's so young when it happened. It probably gives him the best chance at full recovery. Not sure he comes back throwing harder like some pitchers have recently(Volquez and Liriano come to mind). They may need to revamp his whole delivery.

He needs to correct his mechanical flaws and build up his core strength or it'll just happen again. That's one of the reasons that debuting young isn't a great idea -- young guys aren't as filled out and just don't have that solid core of well-toned muscle that can take major abuse

Strasburg whiplashes his arm when he throws, you need a lot of residual strength to endure that and throw as hard as he does. If he comes back stronger it'll be like Jacko said, because he picked up the right habits in rehab that if he'd had 'em all along would never have needed surgery.
