Tex is in scoring position when he is at the plate. He is not in scoring position on first base with Gardner up.

Lester got his groove back, Ellsbury got his first hit, and they got the win. I think its a good sign of things to come, with Tampa floundering.

This was by far the BEST win for the Red Sox this season. Total gut check and all heart and effort with a banged up lineup and in enemy territory no less. Awesome job guys!

Tito got away with pitching to Teixeira, but that was an awful, awful decision.

 

Teix is sporting around a 1.015 OPS in August, and had already homered in the game, while Gardner is mired in a .227 OPS slump in August. You play your matchups. In fact, i'd bet dollars to doughnuts LaRussa or Torre walk him 10 times out of 10 with such a weak hitter behind winning run or no winning run.

 

Funny note: Why is it easier to complain about the Sox getting only six hits than to feel happy Sox pitching held the Yanks to six hits on a day were neither Lester nor Bard had their best stuff?

It was a horrendous decision. Completely stupid. You against the book in that situation and put the winning run on base. He is the best hitter in their lineup with a pop gun on base. Tex was in scoring position with a bat in his hand against a fast ball pitcher. On first base, he is not in scoring position with Gardner at bat. You put him on.

Hope Tito takes the hint and Ellsbury's performance today as evidence that he should stay at the bottom of the order, not evidence that he should go back to leadoff.

Damn, sorry for that misunderstanding about lifting Lester. I wasn't following the game and thought Lester had been lifted after the 7th. Didn't realize he loaded the bases, and Tito had to bring in Bard in the 7th.

 

Tito has done a great job this year considering the injuries. You just can't give him enough credit. He might even deserve MOY.
